Idaho just hit with a relatively big one, nearly 5.0:

M4.9 - 15km N of Challis, Idaho
earthquake.usgs.gov...

Followed closely by a 3.2:

M3.2 - 12km NW of Challis, Idaho
earthquake.usgs.gov...

The Challis area quakes having been getting larger over the past month. Idaho had a large one in 1983.
Is something bigger in the works?

Solomon Islands are no strangers to M6+ quakes
F_E193 Solomon Islands History
that's Centennial List 1901 up to 1959 and ANSS from 1963 to now
by no means a complete map, along with the 2 M8's shown, I have another M8.1 in 1919 by NOAA, they seem to have a few big ones, based on Tsunamis, that the others don't list.

Just watching an interview with Stan Deyo, he indicated that his studies have shown that the deeper areas of the Yellowstone magma chamber may have opened up a vent to the North-West heading towards Mount St. Helens.
He could be full of hot air too though...

Puterman is the one for the long term trends, with the graphs and such
I'll leave it to him.
It has been asked in the past at various times, I believe the trend was going down since the Japan quake in 2011
Numbers mean nothing, its the energy released that matters

So, is the heliplots page on the USGS site accurate, or is this a bunch of glitching graphs? Ok, sort of rhetorical, I'm pretty sure that's the visual for "rang the Earth like a bell" that the Solomons 7.6 produced. I often forget to check the page, so the almost total blackout on a lot of these was an eyebrow raiser.

7.2Ms to 7.6Mww now
LDEO=7.2Ms
GEOAU=7.27Mwp
USGS=7.4Mww
GCMT=7.4Mw
GEOFON=7.4Unk
GSRAS=7.4Ms, 6.9mb
EMSC=7.8Mw
as the Aussies say;
THIS INFORMATION HAS NOT YET BEEN FINALISED

If you are doing any ongoing projects the best bet is to give it 24 hrs, then come back in 7 and 30 days and check again

Certainly looks like this Bougainville-South Solomon Trench area will have an M8 some time soon, 7.1, 7.4, 7.6 ...... (depending which network)

Any guesstimates fast forwarding about 50-150 years . . . ???

Will the Solomon Islands likely, plausibly have new land arising from the seabed?

Fracturing apart of the islands there?

A ridge of land arising in a long narrow way?

How about down to NZ . . . will there be new lands emerging between the two regions . . . a la Edgar Cayce?
