Why are some people so sure that men have to be taught not to rape?.

Like some people think that something with a penis is already a rapist only because it has a penis?..What?.

Ugh, Christ.

Of course you're being immature, you've had dozens of people refute your asinine claims and you continue reapeating them as if they held any water.

Go ahead an link me to your post where you explained why the majority of rapists being men should mean that men are the only ones who get this education.

Until you can explain why the majority of rapists being men means that women are exempt, then your opinion is the same as it's always been -- shallow and sub-intellectual.

i havent read the entire thread, but I sure dont see that being said anywhere. However, women are taught not to get raped. Is it that great of a leap to focus on the act, not on the victim? To try and prevent perpetrators, instead of trying to teach victims to be scared?

Note: I dont think that just men should be taught this. I think everyone should. Its not just men that rape, though they ARE the perpetrator most of the time.

Makes sense to me. Men need to understand that women are also people and should therefore be respected.

Damn.. I sure am glad that someone is now wanting to teach men not to rape. I thought that since no one has ever wanted to teach men not to rape in the past that it was ok to rape. Hell I have my son watching how to rape videos that I ordered off of Amazon, they had 5 stars out of 100,000 reviews. I guess I will have to rethink this... dammit and I thought I was doing everything right trying to bring him up as a man in this world.

I guess now I will just teach my son how to inform the ladies that are good people and bad people.. and that the bad people generally do what they want to no matter who tells them not to. So unless those people who are teaching the "how to not rape a woman class" are using mind control on the men attending I would think that this is a pretty stupid idea, since there are men who will rape and men who won't rape.

Or maybe they are just trying to corral a bunch of guys, distract them with their teachings to only get raped by women in the parking lot who paid the instructor to round up a bunch of men.

Personally I think the easiest way to curb the men who rape would be to just put a ban on vaginas... no one can have one.. not men or women.

This is just silly. Do you have any idea how many rapes occur daily? OBVIOUSLY plenty of people think it is perfectly fine.

Again. Check some facts. Sure, there are some men who wont rape. There are PLENTY who will.

I wont even bother with the rest of your post. What foolishness.

I find it very ironic that you say people who are emotionally attached to the subject are avoiding it.

My son was sexually abused by his birth mother.

Yet here I am. Listening to people try to say that men are the only problem, and that sexual abuse from women is negligible because it's less frequent.

Meanwhile women have about a billion different avenues they can take to get counselling/shelter, etc.. Men have practically none. I happen to think that your form of thinking is a huge problem with our society.

You might as well tell me that we should have educational facilities that teach Muslims not to suicide bomb government facilities; that's the lineage of your failing logic.

How exactly are women taught not to get raped? I ask not to argue, but because I really don't know.

My assumption is: Women are told to behave a certain way, avoid certain places, avoid certain types of people and social gatherings where such events could unfold. Is this correct? Please note that I'm referring to Rape avoidance and NOT how to react during Rape, which is also taught in places like correctional facilities and in places where hostage taking may potentially occur.

IF, the above is true, then how is it really any different than the normal teachings males receive when told "NOT to rape women"?

Women, are told to avoid X situation to prevent rape from potentially occurring.

Men are taught to treat women a certain way and prevent others from Raping them (if possible) and that rape is really bad (So,dont do it.).

Isn't that the title of the thread? Teach men not to rape, DON'T DO IT? Well Every guy I know was taught this growing up. What is left to teach then I ask?

People are still going to choose to do something regardless of education.

I don't understand why you are being sarcastic?
I thought you wanted a mature and adult debate which is surely why you would be here in the first place?
Why do you resort to sarcasm and taking it so personally?
And why the statement agaqinst vaginas?
It makes one think...

Yes, and now that there are people out there that think men need to be taught not to rape, the world seems even less safe.

Pre-emptive rape prevention?, I really don't understand where all the retards in this world come from, or maybe they're just a wee bit immature.

There are not rapists hiding behind every tree in the world like some of you little kids think, but you still have to be careful, at least until you fix the whole world and make it safe enough to walk around with your eyes shut.

I'm done with this silly ass thread.

www.rainn.org...
www.cdc.gov...
www.nlm.nih.gov...
Theres plenty, plenty more. Pretty much every single women today is taught ways to 'reduce the risk' of rape.

My assumption is: Women are told to behave a certain way, avoid certain places, avoid certain types of people and social gatherings where such events could unfold. Is this correct? Yup.

IF, the above is true, then how is it really any different than the normal teachings males receive when told "NOT to rape women"?
A)Because one focuses on the victim, one on the perpetrator; B)Because males are simply not taught 'not to rape' like women are taught not to get raped.

Women, are told to avoid X situation to prevent rape from potentially occurring.

Or not to dress how they want, or not to walk alone...basically to always fear it.

Men are taught to treat women a certain way and prevent others from Raping them (if possible) and that rape is really bad (So,dont do it.).

Are they?

Isn't that the title of the thread? Teach men not to rape, DON'T DO IT? Well Every guy I know was taught this growing up. What is left to teach then I ask?

Were they? By who?

People are still going to choose to do something regardless of education.

There will always be those who do, and education wont solve everything. But it is a far better step than resigning to be a defeatist, throwing your hands up and saying "forget it"....plenty are willing to do that until rape effects them personally.

I am sorry to hear about your son.
When did I say " people who are emotionally attached to the subject"?

I never said "that men are the only problem, and that sexual abuse from women is negligible because it's less frequent."

You are either not reading what I said properly or putting words into my mouth. Either way, you are not understanding properly.

And for the record, I have had friends who have been raped and sexually abused.

This is not true. Our unit went to Saudi, along with one member who had been raped months earlier. (Along with 2 women who just had kids, but that is a bit off topic). Even if many can get counseling (and afford it) they do not get to choose who.

I heard several years after Saudi (and this had something to do with what happened in Saudi, not sure because it was not explained), some women who were there got a letter saying they could get counseling. Since nothing was ever explained, I'm not even sure if these were special circumstances or what, but it was a few years after they got back from Saudi.

The simple fact that somebody actually thinks this might be necessary, is just another piece of evidence confirming the extremely sad state of ignorance within our current society.

Nobody should need to be taught that rape is an immoral act.

I find it insulting that some people think I have to be taught not to rape.

I find it insulting that you think its okay to continue this path, when on average, 89,000 rapes occur annually, just in the us. When 16% of women will be victimized in their life. These numbers dont even include child sexual abuse. I find it insulting that ANYONE is ok with that.

Yes, and now that there are people out there that think men need to be taught not to rape, the world seems even less safe.

sheesh.

Pre-emptive rape prevention?, I really don't understand where all the retards in this world come from, or maybe they're just a wee bit immature.

Retards? Probably ought to look in the mirror before questioning others maturity.

No one ever needed to teach me not to rape a women. At least not in those words. I was taught to keep my hands to myself. I was taught not to touch people, unless they wanted you to do so. At no point in time did I need to be taught that it is not ok to penetrate another human being. If you are at the age of reason, and you have not figured that out yet- you failed at life.

I get what you are saying... but... you seriously think a rapist is going to attend this class and then not rape people? Everyone knows that rape is bad... that is why it is a crime ( i.e, felony not to be confused with misdemeanor) . The reason why so many rapists repeat offend if because it is also in my opinion addictive to the animals who do it. They like the power and control.. the fear in the eyes of their victims... so tell me.. how do you think a class on how not to rape is going to make any difference?

While I can appreciate the theory that a "how not to rape class" would be good.... the naivety of the general public thinking that a sadistic criminal such as a rapist is going to stop raping because of it astounds me.

I believe you are being to simplistic with it. Its not about holding a class teaching how not to rape. Its about a general change in the way we educate people about such things. Its about teaching kids. Its about a societal shift in the way we approach it.

I don't think the idea of a 'class' has been agreed on. The logistics of it would be unworkable. But, as I have posted previously, it needs a whole socially and culturally applied ethos in order for it to be most effective. I myself will happily live in a world where this is reinforced and I'm sure women will happily even undergo classes for themselves if it creates a safer environment not just for them but for all of us.

Maybe classes would work for rapists who are in prison. Granted they would have to be well thought out and not just consist of someone telling them "don't rape." Such men need therapy that works.
But, as I've said before, we live in a world that allows it to happen so we need fundamental change at the core.
