Romans 3:28 says that works are not needed.
That is about so-called Justification by faith. Paul refers to a quote in the OT that says that Abraham's following of the commands of The Lord was accounted to him as righteousness. Paul is arguing that here was someone justified before there was the Mosaic law.
There is another verse in Romans were it states that your faith is proven by works and uses an example of how Abraham was proved his faith by his works, even tho we are saved by grace.
And also what I mean by works is doing what Christ wants you to do, as living a Christ like life.
