We are currently in a civil war, we are divided as a nation. Hell, just look at the source of this thread!
Yes, we’re in a cultural war…no doubt. There is plenty of hate flying from both sides of the spectrum…but only one side is right.

But if we win the war that divides us, we win, period.

The only victory (at least as far as I’m concerned) will be when everyone sees the logic of fiscal and social conservatism (notice I didn’t say trickle-down economics). I don’t see that ever happening but I do see this “war” escalating to another level if the country keeps declining. My values don’t change and I don’t compromise my values. I’m sure there are some on the other end who feel as strongly as I do. Compromise will be hard to find but a good economy and some fiscal conservatism with our tax dollars would surely calm things down for a bit.

Agreed.

Compromise brought us to this spiral. A lack of values, principles, morals have brought us to this point.

Yeah and you're helping that war right along aren't ya? Pardon me for my lowly self presuming to speak to one so divine. And wow a self proclaimed Libertarian espousing social conservatism? Really? I can get the fiscal conservatism but social?

Sorry but I am going to disagree 'social conservatism' ?

Might as well call themselves liberals

When one looks at the definition of conservatism:

a political or theological orientation advocating the preservation of the best in society and opposing radical changes.

Then put social in front of that would mean the preservation of the welfare state.

To me social conservative is trying to be a jack of all trades master of none.

Taking a good look at what 'social' means in this country I don't want to preserve nothing.

But that is just me.

I know this is hard for you to understand, that people can care about people different from themselves, considering you think anyone different form you is trash.

Can you quote that for me?

I don’t recall saying anything like that. What I said was just because we disagree on how to fix this problem doesn’t mean conservatives don’t care about people.

I didn’t grow up in a society where everyone gets a trophy. I believe in helping those in need to a POINT.

give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime
en.wiktionary.org...

We aren’t getting anything in return for our huge losses in social programs…they’re being abused.

We aren’t getting much in return from huge government investments in a LOT of things….they’re abusing their privilages.

It’s time for some tough love (not to be mistaken with rough sex
). By that I mean people need to be held accountable. People who collect welfare need to work for it and get cut off after a certain pre-determined period. Government officials who write checks for things the American public doesn’t condone need to be removed from office. It’s time for accountability. Liberals need to stop being so freakin KIND and start using their heads or us conservatives will stop sending our money to DC.

I’m not talking about the 'Rick Santorum' or 'religious right' version of social conservatism but…we can’t call ourselves a civilized society when moral depravity is the order of the day!

When we allow groups like NAMBLA to exist, we’ve gone beyond freedom into another realm….

Get it?

Are you going to try and sit there on your post history and say that you don't think liberals and leftists aren't trash?

I know lefties love to consider your filthy policies to be acceptable

Their policies are trash.

I judge people on individual merit. I have plenty of polite conversations and relations with people who support things I can't stand.

I personally won't say trash.

Foolhardy, dramatic, illogical, wrong, collective in thought......that s what I would say.

But trash, nah. That would be reserved for individuals, not groups.

No I don't get it, I think NAMBLA is absolutely disgusting but if they aren't breaking the law, they're as entitled to the 1st amendment as you and I are. That's how the KKK continue exist, they can say whatever they want as long as they don't burn crosses on black folks lawns or go around lynching then they can say whatever they want. There is either liberty or there isn't. It makes me sick, literally so don't try to twist anything I'm saying... but you know that we start sliding into unconstitutionalism if the lowest among us are denied rights when they haven't actually hurt anyone.

This is an entirely different debate.

Lets start with getting some FISCAL conservatism, get people back to work, get the economy going, then we can discuss your support of disgusting pedophile groups.

Tell anyone on welfare programs any stipends they receive will have to be paid back and watch how fast people get off it.

Which is how it should be in the first place.

I think that's not a bad idea, after a grace period or a certain income level is reached tax them a bit higher til it is paid off. But at the same time completely end corporate welfare, and start paying people decent wages... it isn't so much that I think someone flipping burgers should earn a ridiculous salary but when it's one of the only jobs around, 15/hr isn't extreme and McDonalds can certainly afford to pay that and still make a more than healthy profit.
