But make no mistake my porn loving friends, this can be a filthy business that absolutely does prey on young women from broken homes, often times with drug and alcohol problems, get real, do you think any pretty girl that has a strong family, opportunities and self respect is going to make porn? These girls are often times tricked and intimidated into doing much more extreme "acts" then they bargained for and end up with broken souls and spirits. Look into it, and you may see another side to this.

There is no doubt that this is true to some extent, but I don't think it is anywhere near to the norm in the porn industry of today.

The fact of the matter is that a lot of people in porn are there for the easy money. I heard John Leslie say in an interview that girls in porn today are much prettier than they were in the 70s when he was acting in porn movies because the money is so much better. Another porn producer was asked about the difficulties of getting girls into porn movies and he said that producers often had so many girls trying to get into the business that they had to be "beaten away with a stick".

The porn industry is huge. The police force in Toronto, Canada said in a newspaper article 10 or 15 years ago that it was in the same category as one of the top fast foods like fried chicken or pizza, as an industry. Those are multi-billion dollar a year industries employing hundreds of thousands of people.

An industry that size, that is legal, that is that lucrative, is not going to run the risk of coercing women, as a rule, when it has many eager applicants who don't even need to be sold on performing.

Having said that, I agree that abuse does occur. "Making a porno" is an easy option for people who have never had another idea in their heads. Any sort of corrupt or cruel individual can make one. Organized crime is involved in the business as well, so yes, abuse exists. I don't doubt it.

Having said that, I think existing legislation in most criminal codes is already on the books to deal with abuse.

I don't think there should be prohibitive legislation brought to bear on the rest of society and on an entire industry because of the crimes of very few people.

Missing the point entirely.

Why should EVERY adult with internet access be subjected to this because of negligent parenting and lack of education on this subject?

Because
1. There are too many negligent parents..
2. The ease and accessibility of online pornography and hyper-sexualized images can be quite hamful to young unsuspecting children's minds..
3. Isn't it easy to make a choice within your home if you wish to be exposed to uncensored material.. (I for one would be ok with that)..
4. It's easy to turn this discussion into a "nanny-state" argument, but in this case, with the proliferation of pornography to unseen levels, it has become a worthwhile topic to debate with regards to protecting our society and its values...

I personally don't have a problem with this legislation unless they plan to charge extra money. I think people are making a bigger deal about this than actually exists. Technically the parents should have been tasked with controlling the information flow, which like I said before is free if you use windows, but if it actually makes a positive difference sure why not.

I can assure you that if they play their cards right, a porn career is far from the worst thing that can happen to such people. But putting that aside, it's not as if this is the only thing they can do. It might be one of the few things they can do to make a quick buck but anyone with a brain can figure out that an industry that is selling youth and looks is going to be a very short "career".

I personally don't believe these women are stupid even if they do have problems. I know a lot of people with what you might call "problems" and I have problems myself. I can still string a coherent thought together. I could sit down at a computer and spend at least one night educating myself before diving into the porn business headfirst without looking to see where I was going.

You can spend one day looking through porn sites and see what you will be doing if you get into porn. You can see that pretty much every newcomer either ends up doing the more extreme stuff or she has a very short career (or just rarely gets any work). This is not rocket science, is it?

Tricked? Please. Don't even go there. Porn is probably one of the most honest industries in existence if you just use your head. Everybody knows what it's about and what is expected. I cannot say that no one has ever been tricked but I will say that if it happens often, it's not a one way street. If you're going to walk into a situation where you're going to consent to have sex for money, you have a duty to educate yourself and be proactive about your rights and protecting yourself.

I don't get it??? If everyone who is opposed to this is so upset because they don't want anyone to KNOW they are watching it, or if men don't want their wives to know they are watching it...then it would cause me to draw the conclusion there is something really WRONG with it...right?

If there is something really wrong with it, then I would think that it's best for the entire population to definitely do all that is humanly possible to protect ourselves and our children from it...right? No one should be subjected to porn in their face, if they don't want it there, simply because they typed something in the search field that caused something totally OPPOSITE of what they are looking for to pop up!!

If you want it, then OPT for it, without shame.... if there is nothing wrong with it, right?

If you want to protect your children from porn, then block it on your home network. Even if you googled 'how to block porn on my WiFi', you probably could have done it in the time it took to write your post.

What's wrong with porn? I'll tell you, absolutely nothing. I watch it at least once every couple of days, and .... GASP... my girlfriend's absolutely fine with it. Masturbation's healthy and perfectly natural.

Obviously from your post you've discusses the hazards of porn with your children yes? You tirelessly sought ways to protect your offspring from it's horrific influence? Oh wait, I'm fairly sure you haven't and your just another parent jumping on the 'thanks for doing my job for me' bandwagon.

I bid you good day

If internet porn is such a terrible invasive agenda infecting so many to the point where LAWS have to be enacted, then why not just get rid of the computer.

iPhones also carry the horrible risk of porn, there is the option not to buy, isn't there?

Computers, iPhones, iPads etc. . . . .

Caveat Emptor

so, who is going to decide what is pornographic? is the government going to be making the decisions? Will they convene a panel to decide or will just one person make the decisions? Will the decision makers be elected representatives or will they be paid employees?

In that case, social networking sites should be blocked too! Seriously, I think they should because it could be as worse as porn in corrupting the minds of kids in sexuality! I'm not being sarcastic but social networking sites made sex predators out of a lot of people!

Emails are good enough!

I can't believe brits are defending this?

Do you people have no self worth what-so-ever? When your slave masters say you "don't need something" you are too quick to convince yourselves of that, and then you even try to convince the rest of the world of it.

I hope they continue to erode your freedoms over there, you deserve it. and take this bloody wanker Peirs Morgan back too, he deserves the same hell.

What is in the drinking water across the pond?

I learned a long time ago this is a subject that everyone needs to figure out what their personal boundaries are, especially in a relationship. I don't agree with government interference, but I don't think much of the porn industry is as harmless and "natural" as many seem to believe. Again if partners are honest with each other it's their business, just don't be surprised when your girl doesn't enjoy "extreme" acts.....

At issue here is another dangerous precedence being set legally against our privacy and freedoms. TPTB would like nothing more than the debate to be diverted to the morality of pornography.
This thread is reflective of that very trap; any intelligent debate concerning this further and major erosion of our liberties, can now be sidetracked with the old, "what about the children?" pandering to emotional sensibilities.
We have seen this dynamic at play in regard to other issues.
How about a thread to debate pornography? There are tens of thousands across the internet.
As the OP brought their personal morality immediately into the issue, the major thread concerning the PM's announcement was instantly spun.
It gives me faith in ATS, though, that this thread is over twenty pages long, with a mere 23 stars.

lol.... where else but the UK. So predictable. I feel sorry for anyone who has to live in the UK with all the nannying they are subjected too.

And by the way, one should realize that in order to block certain sites, they need to be monitoring every single website you visit.

I get the whole "This is how it starts, taking away our freedoms etc etc" but come on, its rape, not strawberrys and cream.

Its not rape. Its staged rape. That is a world of difference. This is indeed more like strawberries and cream, as there is no victim, too.

Rather than looking at the principle of it, think of the social implications/benefits it would have.

The impact would be truly minimal, if any. And even if there were any benefits, if you want to make criminals out of innocent people who just get their fix by watching rape porn to achieve them, then that is completely unethical..

One of the few smart decisions the powers have made...

As much as I believe in pure anarchy over tyrannical order, I agree with this movement in particular.

Porn is one of the many things corrupting our youth... speaking as one of them here.

I've lost a lot of friends because I couldn't stomach being around them. They were so backwards, immoral, and so very open about it... blehk.

I agree that parents need to speak up about these things, but I also think everyone needs to understand that many people who breed probably shouldn't breed... basically, not enough parents care about their children's environment. So, as much as it kills an anarchist like me to say it, sometimes movements like this are needed.

The first and ONLY time I will probably say this...

Well done, government.

The happiest day of all of our lives will be when the bulk of the people currently over 60 have died, I hate to say that, don't kill the messenger, but all this porn rubbish aside If you lived pre computer and during the industrial age your values and your beliefs are so freakin screwed up you can't survive, even the 60's generation is kind if (mostly) out of the loop.

Lets face it in 100 years, the Industrial era will be talked about in school as the single worst most violent enslaved period in human history it began with Russians being shot for not wearing a watch and Americans going off to work at 12... it ends with global warming and a society so materialistic it is damaging the whole planet.

It had to be done... it's all steps to a better world, from tribes to agriculture, to smokestacks... without the infrastructure there are no sex robots right?

But realistically...

We live in a world of genetic science and stem cells, no VD will wipe us out or ruin anything.

A single Asteroid haul can drop 17 Trillion in Platinum, there is no actual lack of resources, no reason to fight

There aren't even jobs anymore... its not an economic crisis, Biden campaigns to union workers who shld be replaced by robots and the biggest liberals are still also capitalists in a time when we need to go Gene Roddenberry on a lot of issues... feeding people is a crime lol

Sex...

Come on, we have birth control, a little humanity and no one needs to care what anyone does, I'm going to have a realistic sex bot in my lifetime... porn doesn't even matter...

Did you know for enough $$$ you can orgasm tissue implanted into other body parts... somewhere out there is a few guys right now cumming every time they shake hands... (vigorously of course lol)

The people (some of them) passing our laws are so antiquated to the actual changes... even an Obama a young guy is waaaaaay behind the times in many ways.

Porn Laws... The aged and the religious right give flying poop...

Good thing is they will die soon enough

sorry, sad but true.

Unless its mommy watching out for little billy.
