The private sector is becoming more powerful and our democratically elected government less effective and more of a sham

Its hard to point at what the real problem is, because the private sector you're talking about isn't really the private sector at all, because they are so tied in to government.
You're getting the causality mixed up. The government is being privatized, the corporations aren't being nationalized.

There is even profit to be made if people protest.
...our democratically elected government less effective and more of a sham, because corporate power is so great that they can essentially buy off our system with lobbyists...

God I am so sick of people coming on this site and babbling their unfounded "war for oil" BS.
What oilfields were secured by the Army.....oh you mean the old war for oil bullshoot?
You do realize that the US only gets 12% of our oil from the Mideast and that 8% comes from Saudi Arabia right?
Really man give us all a break and do your research before you come in here spreading false truths.

The type of massive protest you speak of might work, but the people protesting have to be willing to lose their asses when the banks/corporations that hold the note on their property call in the loan.
Everyone in this country is over a barrel if they are in debt, the clause to call the debt is in your mortgage, on your paperwork for your car loan (mortgage), in your cellphone contract (even a pay as you go plan), in every agreement you enter into to get all that crap you don't even really need.
"Oh My God!, I came back from the demonstration and my 60" flat screen TV was taken back by the bank........
Ya wanna fight with the big kids in the playground, you better be willing to lose your toys.
People here are too small and greedy and self-serving to risk losing all the things they think they need, there were protests in Wisconsin in 2011, a lot of people lost their jobs outright because they called in sick to protest, and I'm not talking about people working at McDonalds, I'm talking about university professors and county employees, UW nurses and other good paying jobs.
That was to get Scott Walker recalled because he was squelching city/county/state employees collective bargaining rights.
A central bank is also not lawful according to the constitution, so when did the constitution become something the parties to it could ignore?.
