so why don't we pull a 1776
...so why don't we pull a 1776?
Let me explain. The average American is apathetic....why? Because he/she has access to mind-numbing entertainment. We care more about Xbox versus Playstation than we do about Snowden. In fact, I submit that the new American dream is, for many people, simply a hunt for the next form of entertainment. Thus the obsession with Hollywood stars, pop culture, etc. These folks are so consumed with consumerism that they can't be bothered with national scandals and world events.....who cares if the NSA spies on folks as long as the latest version of Halo is about to be released?

True enough Muzzle.
A general strike could break the back of any regime if we acted together.
Therein lies the rub.
Now consider the US today. We KNOW our government is corrupt and rotten to the core. We KNOW our government manipulates us to keep those in power, in power. We know the average person is simply a pawn to the elite bankers and officials...so why don't we pull a 1776?
Three reasons: apathy, entertainment, and the Internet.

That is exactly what we need to do, not just in America, but in all the developed western nations, and make it a cooperative, collaborative, international revolution of peaceful civil disobedience. That is the way to go, and absolutely no violence, no destruction of any kind, no burning down of buildings! When you succeed in your revolution you will need the buildings you might have destroyed.

nah i think there are a few reasons:
1. we have learned to make changes in other ways than killing each other.
2. we don't want to end up like the arab spring countries. doesn't take much to extrapolate what would happen
here if we had an uprising.
3. we tend to like our neighbors and prefer not to see them sprawled out, dead on the street just because we may not see eye to eye on any particular topic
The new world cannot be brought in with unicorns, kumbaia, and wishful thinking.

Perhaps apathetic is the wrong word. I should have used..,,distracted.
As has been pointed out in this thread, it's not that folks don't care, but simply don't know what to do. In addition to the daily grind of job and taking care of family, most of us have so much going on in our lives that we either lack the time, means, or motivation to do anything else.

Maybe the hippies had it right after all.
Complete apathy will bring peace because frankly when you're doing nothing you're not paying taxes and there's little chance of war breaking out.
Flower power baby!! Dig it?
