I see the same guy who drives a white BMW 5 series buy cigarettes every morning with an EBT. I am totally fine with cuts.

Figures. My income is below 10,000 a year. I qualify for and receive food stamps. In the past 2 years my monthly allowance has shrunk from $200 to $75. With this cut it will shrink further. Over the same time period food has gone up and my income from working has gone down about 15%. All that while also covering food for a parent who's sick/unable to work and had to make a decision between buying medication and buying food had I not stepped in.

But hey, I'm sure that 2 billion will make a huge dent in our trillion dollar deficits.

I'm a little confused about what all of the fuss is about. The program has $80 billion a year in funding and they want to cut is by $2 billion a year, so that's a decrease of less than 2%. Am I missing something? A 2% cut in something that is meant as a temporary aid is causing us to be up in arms? God forbid that the people who are affected by this are the ones who are on SNAP and don't need to be. I know people who make $60k a year who are still on foodstamps I hope they get their funding cut, 2 kids no mortgage, state funded health care and they bring home $60k a year after taxes.... they shouldn't be getting government assistance. Food stamps have been plundered by the illegals with fake id's and the people who fell on hard times and then got back on their feet again and dont need them. When will it end?

The thing is for many it's not temporary. I'm on disability and it's not temporary for me. Food stamps are means of survival for me. I'm calling BS on someone making $60k a year and collection food stamps. I've been found legally disabled by a federal judge and do you know how many hoops I have to jump through to get food stamps. Just this week DSS wanted my banking info. I had to go to the bank and have them fill out papers stating whats in my account. By federal law you can not have more then $6000 in assets that includes your car. Your car can not be worth more then $6k. My cousin makes $125 a week and he don't even qualify.

I got a $100 permotion from the bank for opening an account. The bank reported it as intrest to the IRS. DSS was climbing up my rear because they thought I was hiding money from them. They cut all of my programs off. I had to prove to them that it wasn't intrest.

Yesss. Thank you for saying what I was thinking. Us hard working Americans feel the same way. It's pathetic. I see it all the time in my line of work. Had a guy come into my work the other day and buy nearly $200 worth of LOTTERY TICKETS! But yet paid for a damn soda with foodstamps? Seriously? This,the bleeding hearts of ATS is what your taxes are paying for. I don't know about majority of you but I can't afford to spend that kind of cash on them.Then have the balls to whip out a foodstamp card to buy ONE soda.

Place where I live businesses are going under left and right. Empty buildings all over. List of what I saw go down...

Second hand shops, furniture stores, jewelry stores, movie theater, barber shop, hair cutting salon, fitness center, adult and family services (yes the place you get food stamps), churches closed down, restaurants, real estate office.

I mean there is probably a lot more, but these are actual places and facilities that I have used at one time or another here locally downtown. Prices are exceedingly grossly overpriced. This place is going to be a ghost town before to long and whatever is left is barely clinging on, but the government says everything is just fine. Of course it is to them because they make 6 figure incomes. Apparently they don't understand the domino effect no jobs = no income = no food = no medical. I guess when the floor and chairs falls out beneath them they may take notice that the low and middle class is what supports their butts.

Hotdogs maybe, but uh, that's JUNK. For 150 you'd have to be spending approx 34 to 36 a Week,

That might cover Dinner, but what about breakfast and lunch? And that's NOT including,

Dish soap, soap (basic) sanitary pads, toilet paper, which Will eat up the grocery bill a lot...

UNLESS you're one of those Extreme Couponers, and even then, for those to work, you really Do have to buy a lot of processed junk food and Tons of cold Meds, etc.,

So yea, I'd like to hear how you do this 150 a month for Three people, because either where you live groceries are Dirt cheap OR

you hit on a very valid and true point, the downturn doesn't work in some level Dominoe effect...many rural areas as well as manugpfacturing areas have been hit the hardest, and in cities, depending, it depends on the state. So like, some techie working in CA may not feel the ramifications of the economic downturns like one would in rural OK, for example. And Moving isn't always an option, Especially if their are court orders forbidding so, like I've seen many single mothers have to contend with, via DV abuse in the courts by proxy. Or vice versa, it works both ways there, but point being not everyone can just up and move...so, yea,

The town I spent a lot of childhood years in that whole region is depressed, mostly immigrants now. Other than one Walmart and a McDonald's, there is nothing, well a few pawn shops. IF it wasn't for the fact that it's on a major run through, it would be a ghost town.

Where as compared to where I live now, my daughter is seeking work, even the fast foods aren't hiring, worse in other suburbs. What IS odd is in the well to do areas, due to Smart Developing, they are building strip malls, but those jobs fill up fast, all minimum wage and PART TIME AND they want Young people, usually from the same locale. It wasn't like that in the early nineties and late eighties.

And Add to the FACT that today job apps online now, want all these tests and credit scores and just to get past THOSE DISCRIMINATORY SCREENS, is near impossible,

Not just for older and middle aged, it's tough on the youth. more and more people are working under the radar...BUT,

Now the counties are cracking down on That, so much for Wanting people to WORK,

It's Malthusian, all there is to it.

This is a prime example of why all unions, interest groups and just about any other facetious "rights" groups should be abolished.
