Timely
Anyone admitting to watching the ashes ?

Anyone ... ?

( morning / evening / just Hey ... All ! )

Cody you are exonerated due to pre-conceived Superhero commitments .

edit on 23-11-2013 by Timely because: (no reason given)

OK you got the first one pretty convincingly
Well played

Just for fun and so our American cousins can understand what we are banging on about

There are certain sporting fixtures that are dear to our hearts.

In my case England v Scotland in either soccer or more importantly rugby these are so close to our hearts that when England played Argentina in Scotland they ran out of Argentinian shirts !!!!!!!!!!!

England v Australia at rugby is another, a sport both nations hold dear to our hearts

England v South Africa cricket or rugby (for obvious reasons)

England v New Zealand rugby ( I was lucky enough to watch that last week and it was amazing)

These are all a sort of grudge match.

THEN we have The Ashes

The term originated in a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, immediately after Australia's 1882 victory at The Oval, their first Test win on English soil. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia.[1] The mythical ashes immediately became associated with the 1882–83 series played in Australia, before which the English captain Ivo Bligh had vowed to "regain those ashes". The English media therefore dubbed the tour the quest to regain the Ashes.

After England had won two of the three Tests on the tour, a small urn was presented to Bligh by a group of Melbourne women including Florence Morphy, whom Bligh married within a year.[2] The contents of the urn are reputed to be the ashes of a wooden bail, and were humorously described as "the ashes of Australian cricket".[3] It is not clear whether that "tiny silver urn" is the same as the small terracotta urn given to the MCC by Bligh's widow after his death in 1927.

The urn has never been the official trophy of the Ashes series, having been a personal gift to Bligh.[4] However, replicas of the urn are often held aloft by victorious teams as a symbol of their victory in an Ashes series. Since the 1998–99 Ashes series, a Waterford Crystal representation of the Ashes urn (called the Ashes Trophy) has been presented to the winners of an Ashes series as the official trophy of that series. Whichever side holds the Ashes, the urn remains in the MCC Museum at Lord's; it has however been taken to Australia to be put on touring display on two occasions: as part of the Australian Bicentenary celebrations in 1988, and to accompany the Ashes series in 2006–07.

Ashes series are traditionally of five Tests played biennially with England and Australia taking turns as host. As of September 2013, England are the holders, having won the last three series, including that of 2013 played in England. A rare "back-to-back" series has been scheduled to be played in Australia, commencing in November 2013. Overall, each country has won 31 series, and five series have been drawn.

It is a matter of fierce national pride and friendly rivalry between guys like Timely and myself.

The game of cricket explained

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

So if Timely and I get a tad passionate over the coming days please bare with us

IT'S IMPORTANT STUFF

Well said Cody!

Old Trafford in Manchester will be hosting one of the fiercest battles seen in all codes this weekend.

Australia v The Kiwis for the Rugby League world cup!
(I'm tipping the Kangaroos to hand them their backsides)

Looking forward to the second test Cody.
I wonder if Mitchell Johnson has put the fear of God into the English batting line up?
Or will the Poms come out swinging?

Bring it!

Good morning little natalia!

It is gloomy, windy and colder than a well digger's.........well, you know!

We got the shop down and the back half of the house gutted. Hubs had to work today but I have people coming to do some stuff today while I have the princess.

How are things in your neck of the woods? And are your knees still improving?
Did you have a nice weekend?

Knees are improving, but then on Friday while at the grocery store I hit my knee that hurts worse on the grocery cart...and as soon as I did it, I knew it was bad. I got home and it was already a lil purple bruise and it was swollen!! It's still so tender but I know it will heal in time.

I went to see the band MGMT on Saturday night, it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. They were amazing live!! After the show we went out and played pool at an absinthe bar.
Then after that we were walking by the bands tour busses and my friend wanted to see if she could see them. And lo and behold, out walks the lead singer and starts taking pics with people!! But then he just vanished! Hah! I would've been the same way.

Then I saw the other guy that sings and plays the keyboard, and I walked up to him and got his autograph but I didn't get a picture cause I had walked over to him by myself!! Oh well. It was really neat to me

Weather is so cold here and it's cloudy and dark out. Glad things are moving along with your house in all. Hope you and the princess have an awesome day!!!!

Oh Nat! The Princess is not amused at finding she must now share a room (albeit temporarily) with her Auntie! I am attempting to placate her even now....

Wait until she finds out some of her outgrown toys are missing!

Hi Doc! *Waves*

We tore down a shop as big as most people's house and are preparing to tear off back half of house (it's completely gutted). Then we're boxing it in and living in the front half of the house while we prepare the land to either build or have something pre-fab put in. Then we will move in the new place, tear down what's left of the old and fill in and build a huge deck!

PS.... What is left of the house is still huge so no worries mate!

Nat I think I heard that DB fried his modem and is waiting on a new one....

Hope you're doing well! Demolition is still progressing. They are dumping my rolloff box this afternoon so we can start filling it up again. I'm so ready for this part of the project to be over but still have several days work ahead. Hold down the fort Nat- don't let these boys get too comfortable here!
