Boston, The old guy, dead mans trigger and other unanswered questions or comments from the scanner.

Like many, I followed the breaking story on scanner and here on ATS (Well done all that contributed). There were examples of incidents taking place as heard on the scanner that seemed to vanish with no trace and warrant a mention if only to keep them in focus as the evidence is gathered and released by TPTB. So in no particular order here is what I perceived. Feel free to add your own examples.

1. What happened to the 60-70 year old that was prone wore a bomb rigged vest, had a dead mans trigger in his hand and was being attended to by 4 BDU robots.

2. What happened to the woman that was reported jumping down on to the tracks.

3. There was mention of a bridge jumper, true, false?

4. The Petrol Station robbery, who really did that?

5. Did the car jacking hostage escape or was he set free?

6. What really happened as the suspects car was stopped during the shoot out. ?

7. How were the 15 Leo`s injured during the above event.?

8. The videos of the Leo`s shooting and explosions that are available where was this filmed and what was the target.

9. Mention of "No reflective jackets to be worn by the police".

10. Mention of a rocket in basement and tunnel.?

I am sure there are other snippets of information or comment from the scanners that I have missed. The object of this post is not to lay blame for anything to do with the search or the events following the bombing. It is to hopefully keep these examples of important information fresh and get answers to them.

Number 9 I think I can answer. If suspect was found and a firefight happened, not only would you be easy to spot, but possibly the first target. I wouldn't want to wear a bright yellow/orange vest in a firefight when everyone around me is in black or camo.

If I had to venture a guess he was a COPD patient that was taking his treatment:

The cops probably didn't know what he was wearing, he was most likely resistant to stop his treatment, and it makes since based on his age. There are other similar medical devices that also are worn as a vest.

The best source seems to be the civilian story by the guy who lived where it happened at. Supposedly they got out of their vehicles, fired down the street at the 6 officers who blocked them, and started throwing IED's at the officers. The younger one got into the SUV and rammed the police blockade, while the brother charged them on foot, was shot, and run over by the SUV.

Besides this event, I am sure that there are officers that were hurt just in the course of doing police work.

soon after the scanner info of the old dude, there were reports of a person dead, they were also asking for a 'cardboard box'... pure speculation of course but last audible info was that one robot was left to work on him and device??? and then the black hawk helicopters flew in...

?? nothing more was said about him but got a feeling that maybe it didn't end well? They asked for 3 things on the scanner, 'sandwich truck, batteries and a cardboard box'

pretty effing serious to have four robots working on you to remove a device... imo


oh also I did a search online and nothing came up on the old dude with the kill switch ... nothing at all

Thanks for the responses... I wanted this and anything else members have noticed down for future reference. Its probably a bit early for speculation but would be good to know if ever contradicting information is released.

I missed the cardboard box part, but I believe that they did stop a hurse that was transporting a dead body. When dead bodies are transported via aircraft they are shipped in bodybag inside a wood framed cardboard box.

I was more alarmed that the black hawk helicopters flew in right after reports one robot was left with him...got the feeling that the hawk picked up something and took it away. ???? not sure, but didn't have a good feeling about it... mind you I was sitting on the edge of my chair pretty much the entire time!!!

in ses events, they use the bags each time... perhaps cardboard box means something different? containment?

oh just did a search on meanings of 'cardboard box' but not much came up. Be interesting to see what it means... in some areas it means 'speed detection unit'

Thanks for that. being Scottish Im not too informed of the US meanings of words in this context.. Like you I found it a long tiring day, but some of the info we heard on the scanner needs to be listed so we dont forget about it. Most will probably have a good reason for being mentioned, but still......

Normally the middle one is the most common type, and it's wrapped in cardboard.
Even though they closed down the city, a funeral home would still have to go pick up their bodies as most airport freight areas don't have refrigeration facilities.

what was activated?
msn has not given info on all the injuries of some of the police officers either, there were reports that 8 officers were injured...
just wonder how much we are not being told.

Good thread, I was wondering about some of those myself. And FYI, some of the most healthy, strong, spry, and active people I know are "60 or 70" years old. The 79-year-old who fell down at the finish line of the Boston marathon had run 6 1/3 miles-per-hour for four hours! Time to rethink what some of those ages mean (70 is the new 55? Or as Al Gore said when he turned 59 "59 is the new 58")

the discussion about cardboard boxes and Human remains being transported by air makes me wonder if the "Sandwich Truck" being asked for was the Apache helicopter? An Aircraft to haul the remains away. Another poster mentioned an Apache coming into the area?

I dunno, just makes me wonder...And what would the Batteries be?

EDIT to say: Did they ask not to wear fluo shirts because he got one and a scanner? Did officers got hit at command centre...

I am sure, everyone who was in the thread at the time would remember that!!! I might try and find it.

There was reference to a statement sometime during yetsreday based on the suspect having a police jacket tyaken from the police officer that was shot. I had wondered if that was the meaning of the officers quote to the journalists?...in as much as "Do you know who are real officers and who arnt".

That would be helpfull...As I said this isnt about taking sides or proclaiming knowledge, its about having the info available and seeing what is missed as the evidence filters down over time.

Police are going to get hurt just doing their job because its physically demanding. Some might have been injured when the SUV rammed the police cars, or hit by shrapnel. Others could have just been work related injuries, but even though they are not related to violence they are still listed as injuries that happened on duty.

Its a big city, lots of people die there every day from lots of things. People didn't stop dying or getting hurt just because they were “locked down” in their homes or places of work.

Not everything is relevant to what was going on, but its still sent out as emergency calls on the scanner.

If your at a safe distance, why not?
A controlled detonation is not necessarily a big explosion, its one that’s done in a protected environment to deactivate a suspected device without causing an explosion. I'll bet you that 99% of the controlled detonation's done where on mundane items, but where left laying around and thus suspicious.

1) It ended up only being a single robot actually on the guy, as they called off the need for the second robot that was being sent over.

2) No clue.

3) I did hear a brief mention of a bridge jumper.

4) The bombers robbed a place. Might be the one you are referring to.

5) My impression is that the guy who got carjacked escaped.

6) No clue.

7) Most of their injuries were very minor from what I understand.

8) I would imagine that it was filmed near the LEOs and suspects

9) Not really sure, did not hear this one.

10) I heard a lot of people mentioning it, and when they were talking about doing a controlled demolition late afternoon yesterday, it may have been in reference to this.

An Apache is an attack helicopter, its not designed to carry cargo.
The mention of the remains was from me talking about the hurse that was stopped, most likely transporting from the airport if the body was in “cardboard”. These things go on in all cities, every day, without public knowledge.

I have more questions from personal scanner listening starting about 3:15 EST Monday...

What happened to the "bomb" that was found under the grandstand at the finish? Was that one of the 2 (or 3 or 1 depending on who you've listened to) that was disarmed after the first 2 went off?

How about the bomb near a school on a bike path that was never mentioned on any news outlet?

How did thousands of 4chan and reddit users miss these 2 when scouring these photos, even pointing out some women's oversized shoulder bags? - Nothing to do with scanner, wondering if anyone knows

Who was (and what happened to) the guy that was on all news channels face down in the gutter without moving from around 3am Friday until after dawn? Why was he held in the first place? Just to clarify, this was NOT the older brother, he looked to be around 20 and was still being shown on most networks long after it was announced the older brother had died on the way to or at the hospital. - Never heard on scanner

What was the Russian translator needed for late Friday morning? The younger brother clearly was fluent in English, as were both uncles (neither of which were near closed-off Watertown in the first place) - Heard the request over scanner then heard when translator arrived and was escorted SOMEWHERE in Watertown by police

Who were the 3 people that FOX, NBC and CNN reported (one of which FOX SHOWED) being handcuffed between 11am and Noon Friday? - Again, never heard any mentioned on scanner, just curious if anyone has an idea
