It's not "Martial Law", that's just more Alex Jones insanity right there. Every time someone in uniform is spotted on a street in the US he screams "MARTIAL LAW!"

This is a joint effort to track a lone and dangerous terrorist running around a city with weapons and explosives, already suspected of being responsible for mass carnage and injuries, and at least five deaths. They need as many men on the ground as possible.

You want this to be something more than it is, even though there is enough logic to have that many people responding to it. Stop looking for your bigger bogey man and just be glad it's just a lone maniac trying to kill as many people as possible with more traditional weapons.

This is not a Tom Cruise movie or a computer game.

From what I can recall from my political science major, Russia and the USA are at loggerheads over ownership of Caspian Sea natural gas. At present, Russia has a monopoly in Central and Eastern Europe and uses this to influence political opinion. An international consortium, spearheaded by the US want to break this monopoly. In order to do this they have to take control of a Caspian Sea pipeline.

The Caspian sea is an inland sea so to get the oil and gas to the tankers, a pipeline must be built. Russia wants it to go across Chechnya and then to the Black Sea, i.e. kept in Russian territory so it can control supply. The US and its partners obviously don't this idea as it will make them too dependent on the goodwill of Russia. The foreign policy analysts theorize that it's in the interest of the US to keep Chechnya unstable to prevent this from happening or something along those lines. The fact that Chechnya is Muslim and has a historical hatred of Russia dating back to the 2nd World War (at least) is a convenience for those wishing to beat them with a big stick but, really, it's very much secondary to the issue of the Caspian Sea oil and gas. The media may try to convince you otherwise but it's another conflict that has oil and gas at the bottom of it.

Maybe a nuke will go off. Live on camera. That would spice things up a bit.
