Shooting at MIT (And continued events in Boston 18-19 April)

Ugh.. Just saw this on my Twitter feed also:
"MIT says gunshots were heard near Stata Center outside Kendall Square, advises students to stay clear"

At 10:48 PM today gunshots were reported near Building 32 (Stata) which is currently surrounded by responding agencies. The area is cordoned off. Please stay clear of area until further notice. Unknown if injuries have occurred.. Although the situation is considered active and extremely dangerous, an investigation is underway. Updates will be provided at this site when more information becomes available.

This is most likely just a random crime but seriously I think that area has had enough.

And one officer is reported down (local WCVB TV). Wow. Don't these shooters know it's a Gun Free Zone (MIT), let alone a Gun Free town (Cambridge). There should be laws against that, shouldn't there?

When will the blind realize that signs only stop law abiding citizens. Banning fails every time (books, alcohol, drugs, etc...).

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is on a security lockdown for what it calls a "active and extremely dangerous" shooter situation

Heard a scanner report stating an MIT officer shot, transported to Mass General. His firearm was taken.

I will always rely upon my training and Col. Colt to protect my family.

Personally, I check breakingnews.com - that is instant and constant news. But I must warn you, sometimes, when looking at that site, with the rate at which breaking news comes in one after the other, you'll think the world will be ending that day!
For example, right after the MIT shooting news broke on that site, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake was reported to have struck just off the coast of Japan - right now!

"breakingnews.com" basically collates breaking news as and when they come in...

People are really still on edge - the amount of bomb scares and general "false alarms" is really growing this week - just today, a couple of universities (including the entire CSU in LA) were evacuated due to a bomb scare!
