Speaking to the press at the Television Critics Association summer tour on Wednesday, HBO president Casey Bloys confirmed that the eighth season of Game of Thrones will begin airing in the first half of 2019.
To recap: Game of Thrones season 8 is coming in the “first half” of 2019, the Game of Thrones prequel series should begin filming at some point next year, and don’t expect additional spinoffs any time soon
Although Season 7 was plagued by leaks ― including entire episodes ― producers have taken steps to ensure that Season 8 is kept under wraps. The cast and crew reportedly filmed multiple endings in order to foil leakers, so that no one can be quite sure what’s real and what isn’t.
Bloys also offered a hint on the much-anticipated “Game of Thrones” spinoff series: One of several ideas the network had been exploring is expected to begin shooting next year to fill the Drogon-sized hole in our television schedules
