I don't think North Korea should be Underestimated. However, as with the Boy Who Cried Wolf, their credibility has been completely destroyed. At this point it is hard to take their threats with little more than a grain of salt.

See what sanctions will do to a guy? His feelings must really be hurt. So now he will throw a temper tantrum like a little girl. I suspect he will continue to run his mouth, rattle his sabers, kick and flail about until, ... ... . he thinks no one is listening anymore then he will take it to the next level.

For what it's worth, I don't know what MSM everyone else is getting their info from but I'm taking where I see Kim or his regime quoted for what they are actually saying. It's pretty clear.

It's not talked about much on here, but there has been quite a bit said about Chinese diplomats and others making NOT so quiet references to the fact they've about had it with Kim and he's NOT playing to any program they had in mind.

Whether the Chinese rumors are true or not (and I think the Chinese really will consider a lot to keep the U.S. off their border like that), Kim's Government speaks for itself and it speaks pretty clearly just recently in both word and deed, IMO.

I am just a little confused by some of the replies. Does anyone on here actually think NK is a threat to anyone other than those in SK? Maybe those in Guam but there wouldn’t be any reason for NK to strike anyplace other than SK. Just from a tactical standpoint for them to strike anywhere other than SK would be beyond stupid.

If they fired on Guam it would only guarantee a retaliatory strike against them.

N. Korea warns pre-emptive nuclear attack part of its military options
SEOUL, March 27 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Wednesday said launching a pre-emptive nuclear attack on the U.S. and South Korea is part of its military options as the country ratcheted up its warlike rhetoric amid escalating tensions over the North's recent nuclear test and joint military drills carried out by the two allies.

North Korea's military said Tuesday that it will put its missile and artillery units into the highest-level combat readiness posture, fueling further the already-tense inter-Korean relations. The country also reiterated its threat to take actual military actions.
It is now a count down to when the Hot war will begin

Heck.. I feel better now, if anything. I must say, it's good to refresh the memory on numbers occasionally. I'll give a quick breakdown here but the links give the full details for all who want them.

It's nice that you feel better, but who provides that info? We have no idea how much technology Red China has given North Korea, so I will give you that even though that was never mentioned until I mentioned it now.

Ok, but what shows some kind of scientific proof that North Korea can hit Missouri just as easy as they can hit Hawaii? It's nothing personal towards you, cause I respect your opinion here at ATS, however let's stick to the debate here my friend, which is that they can't hit Missouri as easily as they possibly could Hawaii.

The second link includes timelines for both development and testing of the above systems and outcome. .

Again, Nothing that you have stated proves that North Korea can drop a nuke on Missouri just as easily as they could Hawaii. That was the discussion you and I are having bro. ~$heopleNation

Agreed there. If they are 100% alone and developing all by their own ability and resources? Well... They can't MISS Japan. Anything that flys can hit something THAT big. They can't miss South Korea. It's a few miles away. Guam? They have the range ... guidance? Well, I would not lose sleep if I were sitting there. Not really ..

We don't know how much Red China has helped North Korea, but that was not what you and I are debating. You claimed earlier that North Korea could hit Missouri just as easily as they can hit Hawaii, which is false.

^^^ We're talking CNN level hypothetical though, as we both agree.

Of course you and I agree on that my friend. ~$heopleNation

Dont get fooled about NK lack of technology, what you see isnt always the truth. They are propably and is more advanced than you expect them to be. Warfare today is dependent of electricity and networks which also might be their doom too, when you see something which is made out of piano you dont see what is inside, but it might be something that cannot be distracted with EMP.

North Korean computers

A Faraday cage around a computer is nothing new sorry this tech has been around for years! Korea in general is actually very good at military strategy if your take into account the games Starcraft and Warcraft which is a game! But the level of tech advantage we have over them even with china/Russia secretly supplying them weapons is massive. We wouldn't need an armed invasion we would just use SK troops with drone strikes, and guided missiles

N. Korea cuts inter-Korean military hotline http://(link tracking not allowed)/ZptuTT

Here's full text of notice on cutting military hotline:

Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet forces have kicked up the racket for confrontation with the fellow countrymen by taking the advantages of the U.S. intensified nuclear threats to the DPRK and the racket for sanctions on it. They have now entered the phase of hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK.
The Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army solemnly declared that it would demonstrate the firm will for counteraction of the army and people with substantial military actions to defend the sovereignty and the supreme dignity of the country under the prevailing situation where the U.S., the south Korean puppet forces and all other followers have entered an adventurous phase in their hostile acts against the DPRK after going beyond the phase of threatening and blackmailing.
Due to the reckless acts of the enemies, the north-south military communications which were set up for dialogue and cooperation between the north and the south has already lost its significance.
In this regard, the head of the DPRK side's delegation to the north-south general-level military talks sent the south Korean puppet military authorities the following telephone message at 11:20 on Wednesday:
The situation is becoming grim as the south side staged the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle nuclear war exercises pursuant to the U.S. moves to encroach upon the sovereignty of the DPRK.
Under the situation where a war may break out any moment, there is no need to keep north-south military communications which were laid between the militaries of both sides.
War and confrontation can never go together with dialogue and reconciliation under any circumstances.
I, upon authorization, inform the south side that the north-south military communications will be cut off and the members of the north side at the military communications liaison office in the zone under the control of the north and the south in the west coastal area will stop their activities from this moment.
This step will be thoroughly implemented as long as the south side's anachronistic hostile acts against the DPRK go on.
There do not exist any dialogue channel and communications means between the DPRK and the U.S. and between the north and the south.
Not words but only arms will work on the U.S. and the south Korean puppet forces.
The will of the army and people of the DPRK to safeguard the sovereignty and the supreme dignity of the country will be displayed through practical physical counteraction.

Okay UN, we'll take you seriously. We'll blow your behind right off the map and all of your innocent poor people too. You are a ridiculous little man who wants to play war at the expense of innocent people. This has gotten ridiculous. All we as Americans can do is be prepared and hope this ridiculous crap ends soon.

See.....that's what I'm thinking.

He's like the Benny Hinn for people that like to watch fake televangelists use invisible "chi whammis" to knock people over on stage.

If you were going to do the Jesus thing would you

A. Listen to old ladies belt out church hymns sounding like a bunch of dying cats a a rural church in hill billy territory.

B. Watch a well planned show with laser lights, smoke dispensers and someone like Benny Hinn with charisma and be entertained.

I go with the second choice, anyone would.

North Korea's president is entertaining.

Everyone on this thread is worried about rocket tech but thats hardly needed in this scenerio. Artillery nukes have been around a LOT longer than ICBM and where dispersed heavily on both sides of the german DMZ (WALL) when the cold war was going on. Artillery launched Chem and Nuke shells are well within the realm of NK capabilities with just a little help from another government. All tactical nuke artillery really is, is a normal uranium based, trigger fired shell with a really big boom!
Now rethink the scenerio.
Will the US retaliate with nuclear capabilities that close to China? What if there is a erratic launch/flight or a shift in wind patterns and dusts the Jilin or Liaoning provinces? You think the Chinese will just sit there and say "Aw we didn't like that area anyway?" Talk about SANCTIONS, if they don't declare war.

EVEN if SK fired a couple of 1k nuke rounds into Seoul I doubt we would Nuke them Back.
Feet on the ground. Hate to say it but I don't know any tech that will allow us to avoid it.

I would like to turn their country into glass (after evacuating all the civilians) but I doubt thats gonna happen.

As ever, it's all POSTURE with NK. They have been doing this for decades, beating their chests. The problem is, politically, they are the runt of the litter. Now that China is frowning upon them, they have little stomping ground. Russia will not be long behind in our support.

I have a feeling in my gut, that NK will surprise us all in a really bad way when this goes hot. I hope it won't but the rhetoric and the escalation in the propaganda screams "WAR" more than ever. This isn't mere "chestbeating" anymore.

btw the USA can't afford to nuke that country without a GO from the UN security council. And I think this would only happen, when mainland USA got nuked, everything else would get veto'ed from China/Russia. And the US won't fire first too, no matter what NK does in the DMZ, because the retaliation from NK would be "just" and they could do a little "told you so" propaganda. A first strike from the USA could even bring China back to side with NK...

why the whole country?
theres so many innocent victims living in the poverish, disease ridden environment.

Thats the exact same thing worrying me, he is untested after all. We really dont know what he'll do next and these threats keep coming, if this was his father, it would be forgotten about by now.
Li'l Kim may feel like he has something to prove or at worst nothing to lose.

It's not that he has nothing to lose...but more that he has to choose which to lose...

If he backs down, he loses face, and future rhetoric ability.
If he attacks, he loses his regime, and likely his life.

He has two strategies to "win"...
1) He keeps up the rhetoric, and eventually everyone gets tired enough of it to ease some of the sanctions.
or
2) He goads the US into attacking (which isn't going to happen)

He's obviously hoping for option 1) here (because option 2 could get him killed also)

What's more likely is that a behind closed door meeting will take place, each side will give some, and it will all go away without further mention in the press (as no details mean no real story).
