You're right, gasoline costs more than a nickel today because of speculators. Just like cereal, soap, and sodas. It has nothing to do with inflation.

It must be nice to be so insulated that you don't notice the price of everything going up.

For the sitting nutjob in the whitehouse to come close to 50% independence of energy he must piss off and go opposite the wishes of his largest contributors. He will not do this, as it will weaken the next election for Hillary. With the Keystone deal, ANWAR, and the billions spent for the unions survival instead of hydrogen and alternate fuel technology research, this dude is driving the bus the wrong direction. America will not be energy independent for quite some time regardless of the mainstream media's twisting lies and babble. We will continue to ship billions of dollars to regions that wish to eradicate the great satan whom are their funding machines.

The military and big oil is his biggest contributors. Do your really think Obama cares about Hillary in 2016? Do you really think Hillary has a chance in 2016?

Maybe that will depend on whether or not he uses that to repeal the 22nd Amendment and serve a third term......

Well your thread has one flag so I think we
know how ATS would vote.

Ok... Now imagine a good looking young
Republican Preident named something like "Tripp Bristol ".
Tripp is obviously Christian White and from the Carolina's .
"We are energy independent!" he proudly states.

Uh huh? ...how about now?... Vilified ?
No F'n way!

Pretty brilliant idea Mr. Bristol.
What next? Infrastructure? Clean Jobs?
American Made goods again?

I'm a firm believer in the rotational magnets as perpetual energy producers I've had the image of that in my mind since I was a teenager, don't know where I picked up the idea from reading back then, but its my opinion that is why flying saucers are round in design because that would be a logical energy source for that design of craft.

This thread is misleading IMO.

I do not consider trading one oil dependance for another becoming " Energy Independent" I'd vilify Obama if this is all he does.

This does not say anything about reducing our dependance on fossil fuels. He should pass a law to make the building of new motor cars that operate using oil based products ( oil and gas) illegal. He should subsidize the building and affordability of electric cars and other alternative fuel cars - I'd rather have seen that than see him giving those companies money to stay afloat while still screwing us with pollution. Then even I a huge Obama foe, will sing his praises.

He should offer tax incentives for using wind and solar and help subsidize those industries to make them dirt cheap and affordable to all Americans. He should pass laws that state anyone in any U.S. city can use Wind and Solar if they wish to and disconnect from the city power grid. This is fair and promotes fair competition - something the power companies and the cities they are in don't allow now.

I hate the scumbag but if he did these things, he would be my new Hero.

That certainly depends upon whether Obama will continue to be popular enough after these next four years to attempt such a gambit.

Many are expecting an economic collapse. More than a few will be happy to see Obama end his eight year reign.

Besides, with a 45 million dollar mansion waiting in Hawaii, the Obama probably wouldn't want to hang around in Washington any longer than eight years. Obama will want to get busy writing his memories for a hundred million dollar advance.....typing away under a palm tree, overlooking the ocean while sipping on those umbrella drinks.

Misleading? How so? You gave your opinion. The topic was to ask whether Obama would be vilified or vindicated if America became energy independent.

And you are one hundred percent correct when you say the article says nothing about trading oil dependence for alternative energy sources. The article specifically says that more oil and gas is being found, and that America will become more dependent on oil and gas....albeit, predicting America will become less dependent on foreight oil and gas.

But you also state that even though you hate the scumbag, you'd appreciate if America becomes energy independent during his last term of presidency.

We all would love to see gas prices at the pump come down. Not everyone wants to see oil and gas remain kind.

Personally, I don't see how we can get around relying on oil and gas and coal.

We've all read futuristic accounts leaning toward magnetic energy. After all, the earth's magnetic energy field extends some 45 thousand miles out into space.

That is truly futuristic.

In the meantime, I looked into solar energy. I was quoted a price in the 400 thousand dollar range. Wow. I mean, just double WOW! How do the poor ever expect to rely on solar energy at those prices??!!

Yes, I'm sure many socialists posting here would vilify Obama if and when America becomes energy independent on oil and gas....and shale oil and gas...etc....

These socialists are in the global warming encampment. They want to end gas and oil and coal and, I suppose, even atomic energy.

But like I said, I got a quote from a reputable solar energy company of around four hundred thousand dollars.

Around here, a lot of people build their own solar energy sources. It's still expensive. But NOT four hundred thousand worth. You can buy a goodly amount of cattle for four hundred Gs.

Solar energy, whether it works or not, is just not cost efficient for the many Americans who are unemployed, and have been unemployed for years.

Whether the global warming crowd hates oil and gas is almost immaterial. Solar energy just isn't affordable in the installation stages.

after 4 years of Obama, you're asking if Obama will be villified??? of course he will, has been from day one. the secret serice themselves have said publicly that there has been a 400% increase in the number of death threats against Obama as opposed to bush...vindicated??? not if the republicans have anything to say about it

Ya know, the mainstream media keeps telling the socialists that Obama has put a plug in the Keystone Pipeline plans.

BUT.....there sure are a lot of bulldozers plowing up a lot of land that looks like it is being prepared for a pipeline. I mean, the Keystone Pipeline isn't going to be built overnight. There are boulders to move. Rivers to cross. Trees to cut down.

I'm very much convinced that Obama is working for the oil companies while delivering speeches quite the opposite.

I see that seven Marines were killed in a training exercise in Nevada. Another tragedy of war. BUT....you don't hear the antiwar crowd or the mainstream media decrying the war. No. Obama is the spokesperson for the military and big oil.

It's just that his speeches are a bit misleading for the global warming crowd.

There is no danger of America becoming energy independent.

No matter who is president, the plan remains the same. We will continue to siphon off other countries energy resources while holding our own in reserve.

You very well might have a very valid point. Much of the oil from Alaska goes to Japan, while we fill that void with oil from Saudi Arabia.

Maybe it has something to do with geography. That it's easier to ship Saudi oil to the lower 48 than it is to ship oil from Alaska to the lower 48. As many economists have said.

And many economists have said that many foreign oil companies are doing more drilling in the Gulf of Mexico than are American oil companies.

Anyway, I suspect that if American oil companies pull up more domestic oil and gas, that's more international trade material?

Oh, who knows. We';d have to ask Obama what big oil is doing. And it doesn't seem as though Obama is willing to tell the American people. A matter of national security, ya know.

And Obama is a big oilman when it comes right down to it.

During the election, Obama said that we are pulling up more domestic oil than during the Bush years.

The global warming crowd didn't complain during the elections.

So, how much more oil are we pulling up in....say...the Dakotas?

As of 2006, the state was only producing about 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day, putting it on par with other mid-tier oil producing states like Kansas, Colorado and Montana. But new hydraulic fracturing techniques and the opening of the massive Bakken formation to drilling changed all that, and as of January 2013 the state was producing an average of 770,000 barrels of crude per day, for a total of 23,834,000 barrels per month. That's double the amount the state was producing just two years ago.

finance.yahoo.com...

Dakota oil is taken out of state by trucks. If there was a pipeline, experts say the Dakota fields could produce a lot more oil per day. Just saying..............

Liberals decried the Iraq War as being about evil oil.

What does Obama really think about evil oil?

raq War: Then & now

We take a look at pivotal figures and "what they thought then" versus "what they think now."

What he said then: Barack Obama, a little-known Illinois state senator who was about to announce a run for the U.S. Senate, spoke out against the Iraq War in October 2002, calling it "dumb."

"I don't oppose all wars," Obama said. "What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. . . . What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income."

What he says now: In December 2011, Obama marked an end to the war he had once called "dumb" by declaring the result of the conflict a "success." Despite the suffering, Obama said, the end of the nine years of war was "an extraordinary achievement."

Hmmmm....so what's this haggling deal over the Keystone Pipeline.

Last night on Coast to Coast, from the Chaplain to the Elite....just saying, he was..........

New World Order:

In the first half of Tuesday's show, ordained Baptist minister and former Chaplain to the 'Elite,' Lindsey Williams, shared what he'd been told by one of his 'Elite' contacts-- the agenda of the New World Order (NWO) for the next 4 years. He revealed that the NWO was displeased with Pres. Obama, as he went against their wishes by canceling the Keystone XL pipeline plan, among other things. The Elite do not want a financial collapse or catastrophic event with the American dollar for at least two to three years, which gives people temporary economic opportunities, he continued. The reason behind this is "forced debt creation" such as through college loans, and government spending, he said. This will bring debt levels up so high that when the Elite get ready to pull the plug on the currencies of the world, people will give up the Constitution, and accept a new world order, he outlined, adding that the end game for this scenario w as four years.

If you got rid of every gasoline burning vehicle it would not stop the need for massive amounts of oil in society. The use of oil doubled food production. It is used in pharmaceuticals, plastics, and 10,000 other products that the world needs. Drill, drill, drill. If America made use of all the oil in America we could pay off the deficit in no time and see an economic boom the likes of which has never been seen before.

Obama's limo breaks down in Tel Aviv....Karma or what?

Despite all its high-tech gadgetry, communications onboard, and defensive armored plating, the White House limo, known as “The Beast” failed to start this morning shortly before President Barack Obama landed in Tel Aviv.
