I have been watching this vid over and over again, I'm simply awestruck by it. The sound of that sucker is phenomenal. We are but a speck of no consequence compared to the power of the Universe's specks

I can't wait to see more pictures of the area. I can gather from the current photos that the shockwave busted out a ton of windows & mangled frames, but that impact crater must be impressive.

Maybe this asteroid has knocked around some rock debris, or perhaps it's being proceeded by a meteor/debris shower ?

That has me thinking to. Did the asteroid hit another rock, and that collision sent some of those fragments our way?

Or, is it possible that maybe the asteroid DA14 is surrouned/ has a cluster of other rocks around it and the one in Russia was one of those in the cluster?

ETA - RT link is saying now there are around 500 injuries, mostly minor.

rt.com...

Up to 500 people sought medical attention as a result of the incident, according to the Russian Interior Ministry. No serious injuries have been reported, with most of the injuries caused by broken glass and minor concussions.

Other links have said there's a few serious injuries, but the news is still breaking so im guessing itll be awhile longer until the reports are clearer.

Some more info on the Zinc factory. A piece hit the wall and that caused the roof to collapse.

At least one piece of the fallen object caused damage on the ground in Chelyabinsk. According to preliminary reports, it crashed into a wall near a zinc factory, disrupting the city's Internet and mobile service.

Also 3 aircraft have been deployed to search for other fragments.

The Emergency Ministry reported that 20,000 rescue workers are operating in the region. Three aircraft were deployed to survey the area and locate other possible impact locations.

Another video....this one too the vapor trails for a long while, and then the explosion.
I am sure feeling for all of these Russians, I hope no one was seriously hurt.

Those in Chelyabinsk who had their windows smashed are scrambling to cover the openings with anything available – the temperature in the city is currently -6°C. rt.com...

Blessings to your Russian comrades.

I must say that this is kind of a reassuring experience, to see all of these
brave people recording this with cell phones, and video cams, its
almost comforting to know that if something major comes down the
pike, its going to be caught on video. Its all very cohesive.

Just because you have been a member for years doesn't mean anything, and neither does your word. If you want to keep making claims make your data available and cite the source, easy as that.

In case people (like me) are having problems with the RT website timing out or 500 internal server errors, here are some images on their web of the damage:

From the sonic boom?! I can imagine a few ear drums being blown.. ouch.

Excuse me.

While that meteor looked crazy on all the videos, I think people overestimate the impact (pun intended!) the meteor really had.

A fighter jet flying over a town can ALSO bring on a massive soonic boom, causing many windows etc. to burst and maybe even some old structures to fall.

IF there is a crater (?) it would be exciting, maybe we can even recover parts of the meteorITE in question, but we cannot conclude from the sonic booms to the size of the meteor - for what it's worth it could've been much smaller than what people assume and possibly even that no piece made it to Earth (since the meteor split up in 10km height). Short: Sonic boom, windows broken, people insured from broken glass - but it's NOT a doomsday event by a long shot and for sure no reason to "stay awake" 10 hours later in the US looking forward to the apocalypse
Seriously people.... calm down.
