If you get the flu (whether you go the flu shot or not) there's not much that can be done besides treat the symptoms, treat the fever, try to keep hydrated and rest, the flu is a virus, you can't kill it like you can a bacterial infections (like strep) with antibiotics, if you get anti viral's (that only work if taken 24-72hrs after exposure and even then might not work) all they do is help stop the virus from reproducing it doesn't actually kill it. All that being said you don't know how healthy this girl was, sure she might not have a history of any illness, but you don't know what her diet was like, that can have a HUGE impact on your bodies ability to fight off infection. Also YOU CAN NOT GET THE FLU FROM THE FLU SHOT!!!!! It's not possible, you might get a cold or a DIFFERENT strain of flu after the shot but the shot is not going to give you the flu, it's a dead virus with the inability to reproduce, put there so your body has a chance to learn what it looks like and build a defense for when/ if it ever see's it again.
All vaccines are immune suppressive—that is, they suppress your immune system, which may not return to normal for weeks to months. Here are just some of the ways vaccines impair and alter your immune response:
Some components in vaccines are neurotoxic and may depress your immune and brain function, particularly heavy metals such as mercury preservatives and aluminum adjuvants
The lab altered vaccine viruses themselves may further impair your immune response
Foreign DNA/RNA from animal tissues can wreak havoc in your body and trigger autoimmunity in some people
Vaccines may alter your t-cell function and lead you to become chronically ill
Vaccines can trigger allergies by introducing large foreign protein molecules into your body that have not been properly broken down by your digestive tract (since they are injected). Your body can respond to these foreign particles in the form of an allergic reaction
The flu vaccine may also pose an immediate risk to your cardiovascular system. One 2007 study published in the Annals of Medicine concluded that: "Abnormalities in arterial function and LDL oxidation may persist for at least 2 weeks after a slight inflammatory reaction induced by influenza vaccination. These could explain in part the earlier reported increase in cardiovascular risk during the first weeks after an acute inflammatory disorder."

I would like to know where you read that if you get the vaccine once you always have to get it. As a nurse I can tell you, that there is no medical evidence backing this up. You have been misinformed.

When I was in the Marine Corps I tried refusing a flu shot because like some of you said, i wouldn't get sick until I got the shot. So I made it about a week of refusing the shot, and it went all the way to my commanding officer and i had to talk to him. Me not getting the shot is aka disobeying an order. To avoid trouble i got the shot, and sure enough, 2 days later my nose is running, i have a fever and im sneezing like crazy. I'm out now and no one will scare me into getting another one.
At the CDC, Sencer solicited the opinions of infectious disease specialists nationwide and, in March, called on President Ford and Congress to begin a mass inoculation. The $137-million program began in early October, but within days reports emerged that the vaccine appeared to increase the risk for Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes temporary paralysis but can be fatal. Waiting in long lines at schools and clinics, more than 40 million Americans -- almost 25% of the population -- received the swine flu vaccine before the program was halted in December after 10 weeks. More than 500 people are thought to have developed Guillain-Barre syndrome after receiving the vaccine; 25 died. No one completely understands the causes of Guillain-Barre, but the condition can develop after a bout with infection or following surgery or vaccination. The federal government paid millions in damages to people or their families.

I just went into Woodwinds ER last night, my temp got up to 103.9º, scared the crap out of me. On the way there my wife had to pull over for me to vomit, I started sweating and by the time I got to the ER my temp was at 100.0º. Very strange indeed and the place was pretty full. They sent me packing with the direction to take aspirin, drink tons of Ice water and bed rest.
I woke up this morning completely soaking wet from sweating all night, but I felt great. Temp is normal now, do have the chills though.

For the most part, I am against vaccines. However, after coming down with the flu in early September. I can attest that this is a very nasty Influenza this year. I had a fever of 103-104 for 6 days! Severe body aches and extreme fatigue, headache and chest congestion!! The only difference the vaccine could have made, is maybe this strain of flu, would not have made me so sick. It really is a crap shoot this year. The virus mutates quickly, so don't expect complete immunity but the shot could lessen the symptoms and perhaps save a life or 2. It's really important to weigh the risks and benefits. Keep in mind the persons age, immune system and overall health.
Knock on wood!! Let's hope you remain so lucky. But I would not give anyone this type of advice. There are sure to be consequences.

Please people, steer clear of this vaccine. My wife and I have never had a flu shot and neither of us can remember the last time we had the flu. I've heard from so many people this year that they have gotten the flu if not this year, in
the past, despite getting the shot, and once you get it, you have to get the shot every year or you will surely get the flu.

Sounds like a nasty bug, hope you get well soon.

I think I won't get the flu, therefore i don't get the flu.
It's a mental vaccine.
