Nah it's alright, he sounded like a Norwegian so he's probably a Liverpool fan himself!

Liberty and freedom - seems like you don't understand those terms at all.

The good, the bad and the ugly. I will support them all, even if I don't like it. So go ahead and proclaim your disgust, I would fight for your right to be disgusted and your right to say it.

I knew the laws pertaining to speech were different between the UK and the US are different but I didn’t think they were that different. I am glad I live in the US.

For years I've been saying there is no free speech. This country is a dictatorship.

If he did the same out on the street people would laugh at him, there would be less trouble than him being arrested.

Hmmm...if he walked down the high street where I lived shouting that about all the people in the town he'd get lynched end of story. And he would still be arrested for breach of the peace (if he wasn't hospitalised first)

If he walked down the street where I lived (Liverpool) he would be laughed at, probably videoed and ignored until he tried to do something to someone.

Probably wouldn't be arrested either, it's rare to see a copper out and about in Liverpool without the aid of a 1.8 litre engine and 4 wheels.

Seems like some of you are ok with censorship as long as it follows your own views, sure hope I am still here when the ranting and whining occur when the shoe is on the other foot.

Oh FGS...that is just the weakest argument ever, and Rising Against has already replied to it....

Having read a lot of RA's posts and threads, the last way I would describe him is, as being against freedom and liberty,

And I will pose the same question to you. If I started ranting about you and your family right now on this forum, calling your parents, siblings, spouse, kids etc a whole lot of names and being nasty for no reason other than it's "freedom of speech" would you expect me to get banned? And don't say no, because I have no desire to be banned right now, so I won't do anything of the sort, but you already know that, so it's quite safe for you to say what you do because you are not currently experiencing any issues in that respect. But I'm sure if someone did, you would be offended and you would hope they would be banned.

I'd expect you to be banned, I wouldn't want you to be banned for it though.

In the west of Scotland where I live, he'd be lynched...but then again us Scots do like a good fight

See, I don't think free speech equates to q freedom to be vile.
It's a good job this bloke got nicked before someone was sufficiently hurt by his words that they snotted him.
There are all sorts of things you can say to people that will cause hurt. The reasons for doing so are just to provoke a reaction or just to get some measure of vengeance...I don't think civilisation suffers when the hateful are made to shut up.

You are comparing a ban against a physical arrest?

Serious?

I have been called a lot of things on the internet, not going to cry about it all that much, especially not having the expectation of having you arrested. You can say whatever you want to say, as long as you physically don't push those views on anyone feel free to say what you want.

edit on 30-12-2012 by MidnightTide because: (no reason given)

So do scousers, we don't like to fight with people unless we have absolutely no reason to fight though. You can roll around town pissed as a fart calling people all kinds and nothing happens, but then you can be walking home and avoiding eye contact and you get bottled. It's weird.

The folks in the UK just DONT GET IT!!!!!!!

First their Right to defend themselves and their homes were TAKEN from them. Now their Right to speak their MINDS are being taken from them. And all the while, THEY HAVE THE FLIPPIN' AUDACITY to come on here and insult Americans who stand up for OUR RIGHT here in our country!!

I have never seen a more foolish people on the entire planet then those in the UK.

An unbelievably ignorant and blind people who just will NEVER see what is going on against them until they are reduced to being forced to live in a locked cage that is under constant surveillance.

Sad thing is that is happening to many countries, including my own - Canada, where we have Human Right Tribunals where this censorship takes place.

I had an experience a few years ago, when one of my neighbours (age 13) committed suicide, at that time, my own daughter (age 13) had taken on the goth look. The neighbour was more of a conventional type (latest fashions etc,) and just after she died my daughter received dozens of hate messages saying that as she was the goth she should have died, and telling her to go hang herself, slit her wrists etc. Now these were only words, but the pain and suffering that it caused my daughter, bringing her to the brink of wanting to harm herself made me so angry I could have gone and punched every one of them in the face...multiple times, and I'm not a violent person.

It happened on Bebo and the profiles were removed at my request and I was able to speak to one of the parents, who was so appalled her daughter was grounded for a month, had her computer and phone removed and all her pocket money stopped. Her parents realised that what their daughter had done was unacceptable, yes it was only words, but if my daughter had then gone on to commit suicide as a result of those words, would you still say it is acceptable to say anything you want to anyone?

How many people in this thread actually watched the video? I support free speech, including hate speech. If this dude had just made a rant about how disgusting and awful and drug-addicted he thinks liverpool people are then that would be fine, whatever.

However, he danced waaay too close to the edge of threatening to go ape and start shooting people. He threatened to go on a killing spree and prefaced it with "you're lucky I'm not..." Also, in other parts he says the video is a warning. Which seems to imply that things could change at any moment and he might carry out the threats. Obviously that is why police felt they should question the guy.

You guys are funny.
You do realize that the US Constitution is just a paper in other countries-that the rights it entails are non-applicable right?
"right to defend" and "freedom of speech"... *facepalm.
