I really doubt it, I think those of you that promote the idea of a second cold war just want to see the world burn... and it excites you.

There wont be another cold war.

Here is the thing. If Putin continues to talk...Cold War...there are people and groups in the United States that have been lost since the end of the Cold War.

I know some of these people and since they ate, slept and breathed Cold War for multiple decades...they have been in a state of denial as far as admitting to themselves that the Cold War is over.

These people are watching what Putin says very closely and should Putin take it too far it could very well cause some of these people to press various Intel Groups as well as the current U.S. Leadership for funding. This is how it would start and it could very well spin out of control.

Putin and Russia cannot on his own start a new Cold War. Only the U.S. can do this by over responding. Russia does not have a Military that could threaten the U.S. in any meaningful way. Even Russian Nuclear Missiles are not as much of a threat due to advancements in U.S. ABM's as well as Direct Energy Weapons.

We can only hope Putin does not go too far.

The US has already been defeated.
The government is under control of criminals. It is run by money from lobbies and more than half of the country has voted for a subsidized mutant socialism.
We're deeper in debt than our gross domestic product and the remainder of the tax paying middle class is in the crosshairs.

The dollar is done.

Not much left to defend. Most Americans are just there for a handout and will sell their vote for just a few more checks. Checks that are taken from an insufficient and steadily dwindling tax base.

No need to fight the US. It won't be around much longer.

Again for the logically impaired,we are not sociopaths we simply are quite well acquainted with how they operate. And we are watching them.not with fear,a political agenda or to in anyway belittle others. We are trying to tell you what we know.
Your reactions to the info are quite frankly a little insulting.

I think your wrong...

A cold war would be a lot better then a hot one. No death in cold war, just fear and paranoia which isn't good either, but it's still better then senseless death.

The different factions will never stop competing to be at the top of a "One World Order", whether it be the UN/Western, Asian, Middle Eastern or the ex-Soviet powers.

Everybody wants to rule the world

Its been going on for centuries, Persians, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, etc, etc.

But in the end the world never did belong to humans

I think there is a major point that is missing from your thought (and the thought of others).

In WWII in spite of the depression we still had a ready base of manufacturing and resources available. Not manpower (which is still available now) but in facilities.

Facilites that manufactured clothes, parts, machines of all types, steel mils, refineries, shipyards, resource gathering (mines, oil, timber, ect), and power generation. Along with looser enviromental laws.

So when you went to a war footing in WWII everyone from sewing machine makers to shoe factories could be reset to make something for the war effort.

Today our manufacturing capability is reduced to a level that is pathetic by pre WWII statistics.

You cannot retool what does not exist.

Our resource processing capacity (example steel manuacturing) is low to some sectors non existant.
Our energy producing (much less delivery( is already almost to the breaking point every summer much less being able to handle a massive manufacturing push.

Our resource producing capacity (wood, coal, oil, minerals) is also low. Also added to it are the enviromental constraints.

Our enviromental laws are so stringent and their supporters are so rabid you be hard pressed to convince them to change in time of war much less the buracracy letting loose the reigns.

I wont go into the human side except to say how do you get people to sacrifice when they scream bloody murder when they cant get on FB for a day?

The truth is we have lost our main strength that enabled us to absorb the losses initially incurred in WWII (due to incompidence, arrogance, and short sightedness) and not only learn but out man/equip/produce the japaneese/nazi's.

Trust me our enemies know (and in the case of china we depend on) our weaknesses better than we do.

As much as I dislike the direction in which Russia is moving (again), I'd have to say that Putin is right now the man the Russians need. Their country is still heavily unstable in some regions, it is riddled with corruption, drug wars and immigrant criminals. Putin does seem to be able to get Russia up, he's been the most beloved president in their history. So Russia really isn't right now where it can be. That being said, it's quite evident that the Cold War 2.0 is on, right now. Putin has declared his life's goal to be the creation of a Eurasian Union, look it up on wikipedia. Some sinister critics are calling it the 2nd Soviet Union, and that might even be correct in some way. Putin said he wants to take the best elements of the Soviet Union and create a new union, the Eurasian Union. Now if that doesn't sound like a new Eastern Bloc....

As has been pointed out earlier in the topic, a Cold War does not mean no death. The Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (and our intervention there which indirectly or directly led to Al Qaeda and the subsequent War on Terror) were all parts of the Cold War as we know it historically. It was only called Cold because there was no shooting war between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. (or NATO and USSR.)

That people remember the Cold War as a safe period without directly related death and conflict is worrying to me. We were on the brink of literal thermonuclear war several times. We were just one or two miscalculations away at several points. It wasn't all just paranoia and empty nationalistic talk or chest beating.

That said, I agree with SplitInfinity that it takes two to tango, and that Russia cannot on its own produce a Cold War. The U.S. must respond to such rhetoric either by using it to justify increased defense and intelligence spending, and/or by miscalculating and interpreting such rhetoric as more hostile than annoying. I believe Putin is likely speaking for public consumption, calculating - probably correctly - that we know this and don't perceive Russia to be a direct threat militarily. But the possibility of miscalculation is there and it has the potential to return us to those days of - yes - paranoia, but also great danger. The last thing we should want to see in my opinion. That it's Cold doesn't mean it's safe. It just means even more tinder boxes than already exist, and the constant vigilance to prevent them from igniting doesn't just mean paranoia; it means more chances to fail or miscalculate and cause disaster and death.

Peace.
