Right on OP, right on.
I have been thinking about many of the points addressed in your post this past year quite often. It doesn't make sense that the collective "we" on this planet are essentially ruled by a handful of power-drunken overlords. It is cruel and unusual, as we appear to be ever controlled by this law and that tax and this stipulation and this blah, blah, blah. It's especially funny to me being an American who has served in the military when I get people saying "Thank you for keeping us free!" I just have to chuckle to myself because I did nothing to keep anyone free. I served (blindly at the time) the purposes of the war machine and it's overlords, nothing more. And we are not free in America (USA). I hate it when people say that crap. Free is being able to go find a piece of unused land and claim it. Free is being able to build a house on said unused land and not be taxed till you die on it. Free is being able to travel, come and go as you please using whatever travel system you have (horse, dirt bike, boat, yak etc) with no ridiculous restrictions.
Want to see the world? Long ago, poor adventurers could do so with the aid of good Samaritans along the way. Good luck trying that now, hope you have at least thousands of disposable dollars to blow through and you're not on the no fly list. It's indeed incredible the amount of crap we put up with as people and in my opinion, the "third world countries" are freer than we are. I know some random donkey is going to advise me to go there and maybe illustrate the finer points of their lifestyles vs. our own in the wondrous "western" world, but at least they can grow their own food, keep animals for sustenance without breaking arbitrary county codes, and hunt as they wish, etc. We are regulated from the cradle to the grave in the west.
I think the reason why so many folks have hinged their hope on the Mayan/Maya prophecies of 2012 regarding either total destruction or paradigm shift...is simply because we are all sick of this on a certain level. Even the more comfortable (House Ninja) types with the cushy gov't jobs and CEO level positions can't get away from the subconscious mass effect of the global discontent.
Most people are indeed slaves, and it's so sick that babies are born into this quagmire 9 out of 10 with their status on lock...the rich stay rich (and get richer) and the poor stay peasants. But how dare you get food stamps you horrible person, how dare you feed your kids. How dare you get welfare to survive. Meanwhile, bankers and companies are getting corporate level welfare in the Billions, and rich folks are getting tax kickbacks and subsidies if they have but one gnarled goat on a 4.5 acre parcel of land. I think the tipping point is near and people feel it, and many are hoping for the change, even if it's violent and bloody. Looks like there is no other recourse. The only ones who want it to remain the same are the ones benefiting from the misery of the rest of us.edit on 21-12-2012 by HoppedUp because: bloody mistake

The world is a better place now than it ever has been.
Struggling with college costs?
a few hundred years ago almost everyone was illiterate.
Your job sitting in a chair all day or stocking shelves got you down, stuck in a dead end position with no end in site?
a few hundred years ago it was back breaking physical labor and you worked for 12-16 hours day just to survive, and there you are complaining on a website instead of bettering yourself to get what you want
That 99% you're always bitching about? they are doing fine with their iPads and Cappachinos.
You worried about "violence"
take a walk back anywhere in history.
You worried about "oppression"
take a walk back anywhere in history.
Think social security isn't enough to tied you over in your waning years?
that was invented less than a century ago
Think everyone hates each other over politics?
LOL you don't really pay attention to history
Pissed that you barely have enough cash to afford Ramon noodles?
Hmm, I wonder if people before you had trouble with food supply? I wonder if they had to till their own fields and protect every scrap of food with their lives? No?
Got sick and you can't afford to pay the doctor bill and you are now in debt?
I wonder how all those people who died from the simplest diseases back sat just a few dozen years ago would feel in your shoes? You know, treatments for disease, cancer breakthroughts, vaccines...
My point for those of you who live in the here and now and claim this to be the worst time in history...
you have no business complaining in this manner, you know jack squat about history. If you want to complain about you current conditions, please feel free to do so, but complaining that this is the worst time in history and this time is some kind of catalyst just shows that you are no student of history and have no business making such a comment.
You (no one specific here not picking on anyone in particular) have an iPhone, you have an internet connection that lets you write all your jumbled logic-less thoughts online for the world to see, you go home at night to a warm bed and food in your stomach.
You are just a whiny self absorbed human.
Please note, I mean no disrespect to any one particular person, I just get frustrated when people do not look very far into history before they claim something "worst evar!"

Agreed.
But did you extract the gas from the earth yourself or did some company do it?
Think about that for a bit. The workers need to be paid, and what not. The reason you pay so much for everything is purely because of CONVENIENCE. Granted, you aren't exactly allowed to extract anything from the earth "legally"... Just don't get caught.

You make some good points, 2012 is the transition from the age of Pisces to the age of Aquarius. the mayan predicted that with this transition will come a change for humanity, We cannot deny there is change coming, but there are also opposing forces at work and it is up to us to choose which way we will go. Freedom or total control. check out this video and have a look at my website www.NewWorldNewAge.com...
Welcome the Age of Aquarius

Thankyou OP. I always feel happy when I come across someone like you. And I think you are correct.
edit- oh my god people make me sick. Look at the comments in this thread. Its the reason people like the OP give me comfort.edit on 20-12-2012 by spangledbanner because: (no reason given)

I have been tempted to retrieve it and log in and contribute but to be honest I get enough ridiculousness on reddit and this website just continues to amaze me with the lack of critical thought.
But this one, got me.
I can understand the conspiracy theories but this stuff.. is just too much. People clinging to things and distorting them to fit their now lost beliefs. We see this after every doomsday passes.
I am sure someone right now is busy trying to reinterpret the Mayan calendar to say they mean "Dec 21 2013"

Sorry, but according to your own post the Mayans are wrong. In essence, "ain't nothing changed." You repeat the same historical narrative and link it to the present day, highlighting the similarities. The poor are still poor and keep getting poorer, and the rich are still rich and keep getting richer.
Moreover, it's up to each and everyone of us to shake off the shackles of enslavement. Despite the hard work and time it takes, we, especially the in advanced Western developed world, have the ability to carve our own lane and make money independently from the forces of the elite, the establishment and the corporate system that runs our economy.
