The amount of rednecks in this topic who have an un-usual affection for guns is amazing. How can anyone defend guns being legal after the events of yesterday. How many school massacres will it take?

Thank you for that,

I totally agree with you, one day something huge is going to happen that’s going to kill many more and America will sit back and ask its self the searching question “how did they get those dam guns”

Comparing screwdrivers to guns is no way to justify owning guns. Get a grip.

And why all of the sudden do people, from countries outside the US, care about our laws? I really don't care about laws in the UK or anywhere else for that fact. Your freedoms are yours, pretty sure other countries have other problems to worry about, rather than Americans and their guns. Unless of course Americans with guns scare you. In that case, I can't help, because I'm a gun owner. But I will try to answer questions to make people from other countries get over the fear of American citizens. So ask away. Does anyone have any questions for an American redneck?

Do you know how many people die from car accidents?

Ban the car.

Do you know how many people die from smoking?

Ban smoking.

Do you know how many people die from jumping off buildings?

Ban tall buildings?

Do people actually think they are offending anyone by calling them rednecks? I am not offended. And I don't think you would offend anyone else who has guns either. Especially us Hicks out in the sticks. I am a bit disappointed that I haven't heard the word hillbilly yet. And another thing to my British friends, whenever your country has needed help, the redneck Americans seem to have your back. You didn't complain in WWII when the rednecks came over. Rednecks and Redcoats we are allies. Don't fear us.

Sure you have stricter gun laws and the incidence of gun murders is down, but your yearly knife murders have exceeded our yearly gun murders.

Second, bashing America as the world's police officers is tired and beat. We have issues in our country that us "Cowboys" may one day become the salvation of said problems, and this is why we so ardently defend our ability to possess firearms. That, and the fact that every genocide in history has been preceeded by taking guns from the people.

And, for the record, you don't speak a different language thanks to our "police actions."

How come nobody ever mentions Switzerlands experience with Firearms? They seem to be doing something right!

"Gun politics in Switzerland are unique in Europe. Switzerland does not have a standing army, instead opting for a peoples' militia for its national defence. The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 30 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training. The personal weapons of the militia are kept at home as part of the military obligations; Switzerland thus has one of the highest militia gun ownership rates in the world.[1] In recent times political opposition has expressed a desire for tighter gun regulations.[2] A referendum in February 2011 rejected stricter gun control.[3]"

Police statistics for the year 2006[12] records 34 killings or attempted killings involving firearms, compared to 69 cases involving bladed weapons and 16 cases of unarmed assault. Cases of assault resulting in bodily harm numbered 89 (firearms) and 526 (bladed weapons). As of 2007, Switzerland had a population of about 7,600,000. This would put the rate of killings or attempted killings with firearms at about one for every quarter million residents yearly. This represents a decline of aggravated assaults involving firearms since the early 1990s. The majority of gun crimes involving domestic violence are perpetrated with army ordnance weapons, while the majority of gun crime outside the domestic sphere involves illegally held firearms.[13]

The low incidence of gun crime in Switzerland is sometimes attributed to the fact that Switzerland is wealthy but also isolated. Social problems associated with gun crime in other industrialised countries, such as drugs or urban deprivation, are not widespread. Swiss men and women learn from an early age to associate firearms with defense of their country.[14] While Switzerland has a strong 'Gun Culture', and hunting is popular, the high level of support for guns in the home is largely based around the fact that Militia service is such a strong part of Swiss society. In Switzerland the vast majority of gun related deaths are from suicide rather than homicide.[15][16

Sure you havent killed anyone. But what if somebody that has a problem gets YOUR gun and kills someone? Thats what seems to be happening. Obviously im not talking about the people that are responsible enough.

It´s almost like this example, just because there are "some" kids in in kindergarden that wont play with the matches, doesnt mean ALL kids won´t. So NO kids get the matches!

Guns are just to dangerous in the wrong hands. I don´t even understand why people argue against that. It´s insane IMO. Im not saying the rest of the world is better in any way, but that has NOTHING to do with the fact that there are too many people dying in an otherwise civilized western country. Most of these arguements you guys bring forth are just the same old bla bla BS. It´s time to wake up and open your fecking eyes to what is happening around you!

It's a tool, stop acting like a tool yourself. Because you don't need guns, doesn't mean I don't. Unless you want to volunteer to come over and beat off all the dangerous predators we have with sticks for us, then shut the hell up.....

If I steal your car, and mow down some kids, are you to blame because you owned a car, and I became a criminal and stole it for a nefarious reason? What if I stole your hammer and bashed some kids head in?

As soon as your eyes are open, I will open mine. One day soon you will need a gun too, you just don't realize how close that day is. Let me guess you live in the city. And you also are saying the same, blah blah bs. This arguement is two sided. I get that, you apparently do not. Views are views, and everyone has their own please do not tell me I am wrong for having weapons. Then I will not tell you that you are wrong for wanting our rights revoked. Deal?

Yes, your laws are your business but it is saddening for all when children are gunned down.

What day? The zombie apocalypse? Or the NWO? So you will be the hero when the SHTF? The military will mess you up before you do anything, believe me. Im not talking about any rights, IMO nobody should have the right to carry a weapon. IT is fear you have of events that will, or will not happen in the future,. But a gun wont help you. Only a brain will.

you could argue in response that similarly,

stop crying Europe, you are too lazy to have workers rights. Take austerity like real men. Oh its sacred to you since your people fought long and hard to achieve that level of social welfare and workers rights? well similarly our people fought hard to keep a level of authority in the right to use force. It is a historical first where the people kept the right to defend themselves and broke the monopoly in the use of force that the "authority" of the land held.

We don't see that as "no big deal". It is so important to us we put it in our constitution. Your workers rights are so important that they were put into your respective constitutions. THEY ARE A BIG DEAL.

You don't get why we don't want to be like you with your gun laws, you do fine without guns.

We don't get why you don't want to be like us with hardly any workers rights and social welfare, we do fine without it.

To each his own and stop judging. I won't call you lazy cry babies for working more for less pay and not getting a free ride, Don't call me barbaric for wanting to make my personal security my business and no one else's.

we are different, and so, beautiful.

You don't want to be like us, and we don't want to be like you. KEEP IT THAT WAY.
