Probably a good indicator that the number of patients needing hospital care could have been much higher.

The OP said they smelled sulphur like from match heads, so maybe some clever arsonist filled a couple houses with match heads and set them off with a glow plug on a timer? Gas explosions are usually much smaller like some guy losing his hair trying to light a barbecue grill with a bad sparker.

Those foam on the runway rumors might have started from the fire retardant foam the responders were using to fight the fire.

If there is a major gas leak they will probably shut the gas off over a large area. Anyone know if the ovens are out over at Jacks pizza?

This is a possibility, and it did cross my mind. I believe we discussed something of this sort earlier in the thread, how ever why would a terrorist target a small residential neighbourhood? From what we've gathered two homes were destroyed and a few others had windows and doors blown out(that's a big blast) but in the name of terror isn't the idea to kill, maim, and horrify as many people as possible? It would make more sense for a terrorist to attack a strip mall, or major business hub.

Star, for the thought, but the question remains why?

Exactly, IMO there is no reason what so ever to believe terrorists may have been involved. This sounds like a pretty standard gas explosion.

Well if DHS is involved and Arson has been mentioned..

I call Terror attack..

These days, making bombs and flying planes into buildings is getting more difficult for terrorists to do..

Taking advantage of existing infrastructure, could be the next style of attack on western countries that have beefed up security to the point of not beinbg able to fart in public without having someone in government know about it.

Wouldn't be hard to hit targets that TPTB have not thaught to place security on ot are un able to, like gas lines that run under suburbs or storage facilities. All the ingedients are there already and just need to be set off..

Maybe this was a test run for something bigger.. blow up a small suburb, and if it works, blow u a city with it's own gas lines..

Then, with that in mind perhaps you should start to investigate every gas explosion, accident EVER.

Well, Our infrastructure is very old in the U.S. I think if I recall, in 2011 here in Allentown Pa. we had a huge gas explosion that leveled an entire block. Someone even posted here that it may have been caused by a meteor that came by the East coast very close.

The explosion was so powerful it was felt nine miles away in Bethlehem, Pa.
NBC news

It appears a large blast from a gas explosion can be felt fairly far away.
The gas main was cast iron and about 85yrs old.

Ok The explosion destroyed two houses and damage two other and set fire to other

Now how can gas leak into two different house and explode something is fishy here

www.usatoday.com...

And of the two homes that were leveled by the blast, Hensley said: "There's nothing left."

I'm no expert, but gas lines maybe?
Or simply, the explosion was big enough to take the house next door with it?
Doesn't seem too far fetched, especially as most american houses seem to be made from wood for some reason.

The main question in my mind - the thing that still has me wondering if a gas line explosion is really the cause - is why do so many people, lots from many miles away, report the that the ground shook deeply moments before the explosion?

Shouldn't that be simultaneous to or just after the explosion, not before?

That said, there have been huge gas main explosions in several places around the country this past year...CA and PA are just two.

Fracking and earth displacement come to mind...

For those of you wondering about DHS, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security covers EMS. www.in.gov...

I didn't have the opportunity to hear any of the scanner feeds, but from what several of you have mentioned, it sounds like all responders used NIMS appropriately. It's a protocol followed by EMS nationwide. www.fema.gov...

I live in southern Indiana and am part of the medical reserve corps, and we haven't been contacted to help provide assistance, so who knows how bad it really is yet? www.citizencorps.gov...

The minimal information being released certainly adds to the confusion, but just because it's a "nice" neighborhood doesn't mean that it couldn't have been a meth production problem. Probable? No. Possible, yes. So far what's making the most sense to me is a gas explosion. But I am in NO way smart enough to extrapolate a theory as to why it was felt so far away. I'll definately be keeping an eye on this thread to see what you guys dig up. You're amazing!

I haven't read through the replies, but, a couple years ago a house exploded in the middle of the night about 3 miles from where I live. It woke us up out of a sound sleep AND it had been thundering that night. The cause was a faulty gas fireplace that was leaking natural gas and ignited when the light switch was turned on. The 5k sf house was leveled. The adults and one of the dogs lived, husband actually grabbed the wife while being thrown through the air. The son was killed as he was asleep in the basement. The explosion damaged many of the surrounding homes from the percussion of the explosion.

I didn't feel anything but i heard an extremely loud boom and i live about 15 - 20 minutes outside of Indy. I've had friends posting pictures on facebook of massive damage. I'll be heading up that way later today anyway, so i'll make sure to drive by the area and take some photos myself.

I am in madison wisconsin, and just heard a pretty big boom to the north, like a grenade going off about a block away.

Haven't heard anything like that since I lived in florida, some guy nearby made homemade bombs and set them off out in the woods for thrills.

So the responders are still on scene, with a "command center". It does seem like there is more to this and the incident site is under wraps.

They are discussing an investigation beginning and construction equipment coming in.

I wonder if the Earthquake in KY had any affect on the pipe lines? People in this area felt the quake as did many other states.

Also, a meteor could have hit and exploded the pipes as well.... who knows but I find it very interesting that its all happening within a 24 hour period of the EQ in KY.

We are (Earth) in an extreme debris field so who knows what caused this gas explosion if indeed that is what it is.

Hey guys, I haven't read through all the comments for this post yet, just a quick scan so I don't know if you've all found the cause of what happened yet.
But last night, around 4am (UK time)....I couldn't sleep so I went for a star gaze and I saw, what I'm guessing was one mammoth meteor, biggest I've ever seen, hit our atmosphere, leaving a huge white streak behind it. Me and my house mate were certain that thing would have hit somewhere. I came online to have a search to see if it had and I found your post...
Now being completely unable to figure out whether this could have hit where you guys are I will leave it in your capable hands. It's probably nothing but just thought I'd add that into the possibility pot anyway!
(I live in Norwich, England if that helps at all)

That's what they are saying. However there have been a few large explosions here in the USA over the last few months that have all had 'simple' explanations that just seem too final. Almost like nothing to see here, take this answer and move on.

Here's another pic I found.
