I don't see how this is right wing? That is a tactic to undermine the real concerns of cititzens. Romney to me was not a better canidate. The two party sytem, and corrupt federal government that needs to be put in check. This is a very viable discussion and shows that people do not like or trust our current government wether it be a republican in office or democrat. Open your mind to the fact that not all people are partisan and are actually being critical of our current system as a whole not just being sore losers. Not to say that some are not just voicing their disgust for Obama and approval for Romney that could very well be the cause but, that is not my reasoning.

Agreed, I don't understand why people does not get this. It is not Blue and Red, its what is quoted above. How did this turn into a discussion about being sore loosers. I dislike both Romney and Obama. To me there were no lesser of the two evils. They are both one in the same.

Man oh man, my masochistic side must be totally ruling me today. What don't I get? The problem is I do get it. You think I am a liberal huh? Why, because I detest ignorance? The problem with the right is they are not real smart and easily led by the nose. The problem with the left is they are far too gullible and think they can reason and understand everything, they seem to have no real concept of evil. Sometimes a snake is a snake and there is no more to it than that.

I imagine I am one of the few that truly needs no one to survive. I can defend myself verbally, in armed or unarmed conflict. I can shoot the eye out of a fly at 100 yards, catch fish with nothing more than a string and a hook. Know how to trap, and have done it, know how to farm, and know how to "doctor". I own enough property that can supply all of my needs. And I have well honed bartering skills I can use to obtain the things I can't make on my own. So I have no need for the government period. But when my stream gets polluted and becomes non potable because of industry up stream I take issue with that. Do I hate industry? No, I hate polluted water. Because now you force me to drink from your public water supply because you polluted mine, in the name of what? Jobs? Why do you need a job to begin with? Because you can't make it on your own? I find it hard to comprehend that people will demean themselves to this point. You know, I feel like my family was here first and I am sorry you decided to have more children than you can provide for, that you chose poor ground, poor water. Or whatever your reasons are. It is not my problem. Go away and leave me alone. That is how I feel. And many generations of my family have survived just fine on our own. I am sure a lot of people from my blood line still shun electricity. But I also feel compassion and when I see the children of the ignorant in need my heart weeps and it distresses me greatly. And conscience will not allow me to turn a blind eye to those in need.

I do like certain things and want them, so I choose to participate in society. I understand that when you leave your own turf you just can't shoot everyone who your intuition tells you needs it. So I have to rely on law men and the laws that bind us to keep me safe. So I have an interest in keeping guns out of the hands of the insane. The question is how? Any idea short of living in never ending paranoia and carrying mass weapons and wearing body armor seems to be someone's idea of infringing on the second amendment. The far left cant comprehend why people would want to own guns period.

Of course I am only revealing one facet of a multifaceted stone and I am sure there will still be plenty of room left open for you to label me and mold me into whatever you want for whatever purpose it serves.

Have a great day. I am through here for now.

And that's what the petitioners are trying to accomplish. I was just making a point to the person who said it was un-American for them to even try.

I am saying that the Constitution itself prevents the concept of secession.

What about Texas?

I think Texas can.

I think Texas is the only state that has a clause to be able to do this and in my opinion they are the only state that could even survive such a change.

If LA becomes its own country, the USA's SAT scores in math and English should improve.

I posted this in another thread... Here I go:

To ALL the naysayers who say Louisiana can not hold there own, let see what assets the state has that can bring the country or part of the country to it's knees.

Our ports which INCLUDES the largest port bulk cargo port in the world:
en.wikipedia.org...

Look at those Louisiana ports on that!

Our economy:
www.houmatoday.com...
And that is just with our oil production and not agriculture. You can also factor in ship manufacturing and it would be a total bummer when a tax is placed on all shipping traffic going up the Mississippi

Also another note, Louisiana receives more federal funding than most other states because it can not tax the incoming oil that is pumped from ships to shore, only the federal government can. That goes for ALL imports. That is why Louisiana is so dependent on the Feds.

DO NOT think for a second Louisiana can not hold it's own. There is a reason New Orleans held the title for richest city in the world before the Civil War.

And another thing, states ARE allowed to leave the REPUBLIC of the United States. Each state is it's own country united under one banner and that is the United States.

Are the confederates still at it or what? And america is hardely a union, it is more like a tight federation. Isn't that why they call the central government "a federal government"? I don't know, maybe I am wrong. Going by the EU it seems more fitting to call THAT ONE a union.

You have much more leeway with a union than with a federation!

Gee, NO was big before the Civil War, eh? Impressive. I mean, that was only about 150 years ago. That's the kind of stat that's really relavent in today's conversations. Although, I think the 'value' of slaves may have dipped a bit.

Well it depends if republicans or democrats win. For every republican victory america goes back 20 or more years. With every democrat victory it stays about the same. Small government, less taxes on the rich and more wars guarantee stupidity.

What isn't being taught in schools today is that the United States is a Republic of states. By definition a state is a country. So the United States is a Union of countries. YES every state is its own country. They do not teach that in schools because after the civil war the country became more Nationalist than Republic.

I think its a genius idea. Every state should choose a side and split into 2 countries

Every nation on earth that I can think of is a republic. It seems you are trying to split hairs and make an exception for america. Look at mexico and how many states it has under the federal mexican government. Do you think mexico should split up as well, or just usa?

Why confederates hate the north so much? I really don't get it and I am being sincere. The civil war is gone, way gone, why not keep america strong rather than divided?

Wow!!! Since the right wing moon bats moved in here the intelligence level has dropped like a rock. So where does this all end? What if the people of New Orleans didn't want to go along, would they be forced to? Should we go back to city states? Who would the country of la turn to for defense? Or would god and guns keep them safe? Because they are going to control the Mississippi and the gulf if I understand correctly. I am sure the government of the U.S. would just turn over and cower in fear. How would they pay for their navy, they would have keep all the other fisherman out of the gulf right? Who would protect their oil rigs from pirates from South America? I wonder how they will pay to keep the levy systems in place? I wonder how the population of the sportsmans paradise country will feel when the lack of environmental regulation turns the place into a toxic waste dump? Taxation and regulation are bad, right?

How would they pay for education? How would they feel when there is no more LSU football? Who would they play? How would they stock the store shelves? How would they feel about getting passports to travel anywhere outside of la? Of course travel might be difficult if they can't figure out a way to pay for bridges, and they have a lot of them. Do you think they would have a liberal immigration policy that would let all the other like minded loonies in? How would the natives feel about that? I wonder how the natives would feel when they would have to accept the state sponsored religion, and give up their own beliefs?

You do realize if a state would disavow themselves of any federal help they would have a lot more autonomy, right?. Ah, who am I kidding that wouldn't fit your ignorant talking points meme. Carry on.......

i tell you how they pay for all the things you mentioned. They are no longer paying the u.s gov for property taxes, road taxes, income taxes, social security taxes, fuel taxes, alcohol taxes , cigarette taxes, etc. etc. they are will have billions of dollars left over to pay for the things you mentioned, they no longer will be supporting foreign idiotic wars that just throw trillions of dollars into the u.s. politicians pockets, i would say they could have plenty of cash on hand to make it all work.

Not every nation on earth is a republic. Individual areas in countries do not have individual constitutions like the United States. And this isn't a north south issue, it is a State Vs Federal issue. It was the main reason the Civil War started, NOT over slavery.

Why are allot of posters on here getting bogged down into ideas like "how will they do this and fix that and stuff"?
I'm sure these former states and new-found countries would keep everything mostly the same.
They would still need to continue a tax based system to pay for the cops, to pay for the guy who keeps his finger in the dike on the levy and stuff. They would still need to have the tax money from their citizens to pay for schools and fire departments and things.
They would still need money for drug enforcement swat squads... oh never mind, that'll be nixed.

It would be pretty much the same as the state was before, except with no more boss.
The state would be "working from home", owning its own business and setting its own hours.

If it came to that? Then I suppose another Civil War would be the end result. Thankfully that is currently not an applicable notion because the vast majority of Americans do not support such extremist notions as secession.

~Heff

How do you know this as fact? Because you read it somewhere does not make it a fact! Or did you personally poll the 'vast majority' of them?

Did you go to school? Did you learn anything about something called The American Civil War? You act like this is a new idea! No, it has happened before and it took quite a few years to catch on. But it's not impossible for civil war or revolution to come to America. Do you think civil wars only happen in other countries? I feel sorry for you.
Then again, I envy you as you think like a small child and think you will be protected and cared for by your 'leaders'!
