Message to GOP care of Rachel Maddow

I've never cared for the Maddow show.

He's was too biased and he's not afraid to show it.

Plus the whole cross dressing thing kind of turns me off.

Well, that was quite a speech.

I am a liberal democrat, and let me tell you what I want:

1. I want all consenting adults to be able to marry the one they love. Is that intolerant or hateful?

2. I want government programs to help those in our society who need a helping hand. Is that intolerant or hateful?

3. I want a woman to be able to have control of her own body. Is that intolerant or hateful?

4. I want the death penalty abolished. Is that intolerant or hateful?

5. I would like for there to be some type of controls on guns, so that it's a little harder to get hold of them by those in our society who want to hurt others. Is that intolerant or hateful?

6. I want more funding towards education,especially in inner-city neighborhoods, so that our youth have a chance to succeed. Is that intolerant or hateful?

7. I want contraceptives to be made easily available so that there are as few unwanted pregnancies and abortions as possible. Is that intolerant or hateful?

8. While I am not a religious person, I want tolerance for all religions, including Muslims, as well as atheists. I want people to be sensitive to these other religions and to remember that Christianity is not the only religion in America.


Now, let me tell you how the typical far right conservative fundamentalist feels about what I want:

1. Gays have no right to be married, or to call themselves married, because the Bible says homosexuality is an abomination. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmm

2. The people who need assistance from the government are lazy bums trying to take advantage, and they should get off their butt and get a job. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmm

3. Women shouldn't be having sex if they don't want a baby. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmm

4. Those S.O.B.s committed a heinous crime - they deserve to die for it. If we execute an innocent man - oh well, capital punishment is still a good thing. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmm

5. Anyone should be able to get any kind of gun. Those bleeding heart liberals can pry my gun out of my cold dead fingers. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmmm

6. Why are we blowing money on inner-city schools? It's just going to waste. Those kids are just going to be drug dealers and gang leaders anyway. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmmm

8. This country was founded on Christian principles, so we are a Christian nation - and everyone knows that all Muslims want to kill Americans. Intolerant/hateful? Hmmm

Now, honestly - is that an incorrect assessment of the far right? Which viewpoint is more tolerant?

I will continue to fight for what I want, because I believe it is inclusive, rather than exclusive. Fortunately, the rest of America seems to be leaning in that direction as well. The only point Rachel was making is that the far right is getting left behind. The next several generations, I believe, will embrace tolerance for all, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, education or income level. I think the next several generations will have less use for violent weapons. I think they will have no problem with gays getting married, and they won't have a problem with providing contraception for women, and they won't fault a woman who feels that abortion is the best choice for HER, and they won't treat all Muslims as terrorists.

Maybe I'm just dreaming, but I think it's totally possible that we are becoming a more tolerant and peace-loving society. And that's a good thing. Are we a divided nation? Maybe right now, but the people who are less tolerant towards minorities, gays, atheists, Muslims, the poverty-stricken, etc. are a dying breed. I am very hopeful as to what the next several generations bring.

Means the current potus margin is not as big as people are making it out to be.

59+ million people did not want the current potus then add in the people who say" there was no difference between the two", and their vote doesn't matter.

Seems quite a few people are trying to sell some snake oil.

Considering the victories in 2010, and Wisconsin the gop may be down but not out.

I have found liberals to be more dogmatic and intolerant then repub... they do have their moments... for instance an open mind does not assume to know anything, but instead question all and gets first hand answers

I didn't really care who "won" to be honest. I just wanted to see one side get the whole thing; the presidency, the senate and the house. I wanted to see what they would do if they really had a mandate (the libs don't) and their was no meaningful (or effective) obstruction. It could have been a Romney / GoP Congress for all I cared. The outcome is the same: Lets see this rhetoric in action. Let's examine the real effect of these policies, on the ground, as they actually move through space / time.

But nope. My America actually voted status quo, and gave us the same basic thing we already had, 6 billion dollars ago. Which means 4 more years of useless talk, positioning, mating-signals, garbage. Honestly -- I voted for Obama because I don't care for the religious right, and I didn't "believe" Romney's "business genius." Full stop.

It would have been a better world today if Beezer's team had taken the whole enchilada.

At least we would finally know, in real time, for posterity, which of these parties has actual game, and which one needs to be thrown out with yesterdays trash.

If you dispute the facts THEN you might stretch what she is saying to include ridicule but you would have to be in violation of the simple facts first. When the truth is called provocation and when denying ignorance is called non-acceptance - we'll all be in trouble.

It appears that Rachel was simply stating the obvious. The election results show that the Republican party is out of touch with the will of the American people. Given the displeasure so many continually voice that they have with President Obama, surely if Mr. Romney had offered a viable alternative worthy of consideration, folks would have voted for him. He certainly spent enough money to get his message out there? Republicans are experiencing what Democrats felt like when they had to accept another four years of George Bush.
Both parties have to revamp their approaches considerably to regain the trust of the people. The country is in poor shape presently and I for one certainly do not envy the job Mr. Obama has before him at this point in history. Hopefully, it will show that he rose to the occasion and was able to reconcile all of the terrible mess the country is in. Given the situation, the new guy didn't offer a better plan and people voted accordingly. Thank God!

Actually you had what you wanted on the Democratic side the first two years of Obama as President. The Democrats had the House and Senate too. The only thing you are missing so far is the Republicans being in that position. Personally I prefer neither side to be in total control. Historically that has been bad for the country.

Americans can do anything, but this BS red versus blue pissing match is like falling into a matrix.
