The french gave us democracy. Glad to see they are putting censorship on death row.

If they want freedom of religion.. they need to appreciate freedom of speech!

Another thing is I believe that everyone censoring themselves because of the extremists violence is tantamount to encouraging that violence.

It's like a child in a store screaming for candy and so the parent buys said child that candy so that they will stop making a scene in the store. The child learns that by screaming and carrying on that he or she will get their way.

think by obscene they mean porn and the like not something that offends one group but might not offend any one else

The magazine has defended the move by invoking the right to free speech. Speaking on French radio, the magazine’s director explained that a decision not to publish would “hand victory to a handful of extremists that are causing a commotion in the world and in France.”
from ops link seems that they are just echoing what some on ats have said

Every American who backs free speech should be behind actions like this.

The call for censor ship simply because one group wants to oppress the free speech of others using violence needs to be fought when ever it happens.

I may not agree with whats being said, but I will fight and die for their ability to say it.

I couldn't agree more!

Even though you don't agree with what a person says doesn't mean you should be allowed to silence them with violence or the threat of violence!

It doesn't matter if they publish this or not. Islam will continue to find excuses to resort to violence and hatred - until the "majority" of Islam starts removing the "minority" from causing GLOBAL strife. Next year, this same crap will continue on and you will see people not growing a back bone to denounce it and then blame their own countries for making these people mad.

Everyday there is stuff being put that makes fun of ALL aspects of society, but you don't see anyone else causing violence and demand other countries to change it's culture.

They're taking advantage of the Global Situation, just to sell more magazines.

Pathetic if you ask me, but, what ever.

Bull. Just because I CAN say something, doesn't mean I SHOULD.

You scribbled a picture of God sitting at the dinner table farting out the Universe on your napkin? #Muslim

If only people could be more mature and things like this wouldn't be a problem.
Every other religion and sect is attacked so no one should be treated specially.
Muhammud isn't even that cool.. Im not a Christian, but Jesus seems so much better, yet you dont see all the Christians peeing their pants whenever someone has an upside-down crucifix or Jesus jokes.

They are doing this to stir the pot to sell more magazines but in all honestly - who cares if the Muslim community gets upset.

Time to learn some tolerance and time for the rest of us not to be afraid of the extremists any more.

But don't want to hear any crying from those publishers, they know what they are getting themselves into.

It is adding fuel to the fire so to speak but:

Every group of people gets "picked" on. There are jokes and opinions about every religion, every race, gay people, straight people, fat people, skinny people and so on. Sometimes the jokes/opinions are in poor taste, sometimes they are upsetting but no one is immune. And throwing a tantrum of global proportions is not going to get people to stop "picking" on you, if anything it will just get people "picking" on you more.

Yup. Everyone gets made fun of once in a while, but those Muslims sure do like to throw little bitch fits whenever the shoe is on the other foot.

I bet they'll still blame the US and burn American flags too.

I really hope nobody dies over this, freedom of speech is not worth innocent peoples' lives. I don't care what anyone says. But dammit I gotta hand it to the French.....as long as it's actually a funny bit and not just something to ruffle the Muslim feathers.

HAHA! If he does, I hope they draw him breastfeeding a pig.

But seriously, everyone needs to lighten up a little.
Sure getting teased about an issue close to their heart may upset them a little, but there is no need for them to carry on the way they do.

The riots that were held all over the world in relation to the film was a total over reaction. I feel it was orchistrated in such a way to put fear into society, to make us bow down to thier radical minority even more than what society does now.

Some magazine wants to draw a picture and publish it.

Sure it is probably to get sales, and get their name out there, but who cares? It is their right to do so, as long as they are within the laws of the country they are part of.

The problem here isn't that someone is drawing a picture and publishing it, the problem is that angry mobs are threatening violence over someone expressing free speech.

You can make the decision for yourself to conform to threats of violence, but you have no right to force anyone else to.

If it were up to me the entire world would be plastered with every kind of content "offensive" to those threatening violence. Let em freak out and rage out of control until they lose their energy and drive.

Like a spoiled kid, sometimes you just gotta let the tantrum run its course.

I agree but it's a set up. France must have the part of the deal where they get to colonize one of the conquered Islamic territories and solve their oil problem. The acted tough in the Libya rebellion.

Now I'm doing it................the great conpiracy continues..........................................

those who do not believe in sanctity or respect will not be given it. many use laws of freedom to cause harm to others for sake of themselves.

There is nothing wrong with what the magazine is doing. People in France shouldn't have to censor themselves because people in the middle east or immigrants of middle eastern decent are offended by jokes about their religion and become violent animals over them.

It's absurd. If they riot and kill people and it stops publications, movies, or anything from making fun of Islam then we are reinforcing their psychotic behavior.

Maybe all the Muslims will have protest fatigue by tomorrow and they will get desensitized to this type of expression like the rest of us. All organized religion is a joke and exploits people. It's nice to be around people and to pray, but the roots are corrupt all the way around.

I seriously don't understand what joy a publication get's out of publishing stuff like this especially with the current ME situation over the film.

Like are they TRYING to insight outrage and riots and people getting killed?

didn't the media learn its lesson after South Park made fun of Mohammed and someone nearly bombed Comedy Central HQ in times square with a failed truck bomb?

That said, the conspiracy theorist inside of me says this all smells AWFULLY fished and orchestrated to me... and wouldn't be surprised if this was part of a larger scale "planned" event.

Nothing should be 'off limits' to talk about, draw about, or think about. This is one of the many problems I have with religion. The entire 'my prophet and beliefs are more right than yours' has caused so much death and suffering in the world it's ridiculous.

So it causes outrage and and riots, that is no fault of the person/group who is sharing an idea. Whether it is supposed to be comedic or serious, bottom line is 'so what.'

You mention the South Park situation and all I can do is roll my eyes, not really at you, but about how it all played out. What do you mean people can't animate/draw/mention a certain prophet, no matter which one it is?

It's mind baffling to me that anyone would have these beliefs. So this prophet, in his almighty wisdom and greatness at one point said 'DON'T MAKE CARTOONS OR ANYTHING ABOUT ME OR ELSE," right...seems legit.
