"Go-Topless Day" in New York seeks equal rights to bare chests

For those who are for this, let me ask you something
Are you perhaps taking equality too far?
And would you want your daughter to participate in this event?

I would be uncomfortable with it. That's how the culture I grew up in trained me.

If I had grown up in say, Spain, I am sure it would be totally okay to me.

It's just social conditioning.

Breasts are nothing more than modified sweat glands surrounded by fat.

I think the issue of rights is being brought up because women can get charged with a misdemeanor for going topless, whereas a man does not. It can be perceived as unequal protecton under the law, which is a fundamental right. The issue is, if men can go topless, then women should to. Sex in public places and public nudity is illegal for males and females alike. that is a false equivalency.

That said, im on the fence. I am a female, i would never go topless, but that is my preference and i will admit it would bother me to see women walking around topless, butthat is because i have been conditoned to that. I understand the issues that come along with allowing exposed female breasts but that is a result of requiring them to be hidden and therefore they have an allure. But then the debate is, which came first? The chicken or the egg, i guess. Public nudity is different because that is just plain unsanitary.

Another issue is punishing women for doing something that could entice others to committ crimes, harrassment, or be a nuisance in general. I liken it to the dont ask dont tell policy in the military. Gays had to be quiet because other people had a problem with their sexual orientation and couldnt control themselves. Gays were ounished for other peoples actions. I think that applies to women in this case.

The organizer is right. Why do we consider exposed breasts to be nudity? No matter how you look at it, there's nothing sexual about a woman's breasts. Are people turned on by them? Sure, but people are also turned on by feet and inanimate objects.

If only everyone could behave themselves. A taboo on nudity is one I'd like to see dissolved - that being said, if my body is not in shape I won't punish others by revealing it publicly.

The poor women they really are so hard done by can't even get their tits out in the main street, I would use the gym down the rd but it's female only (try opening a male only gym) I would use the Doc a block over but it's a female doctor for female problems, (try being a male doc & turning away a female patient), my back is sore today cause I have to do all the lifting at work because you can't get a girl to lift heavy things.

Im not sure how this would give female "equal" rights, it would just make them look more like the stereotypical man's objects, or eye candy, w/e you want to call it..

Im a man but i never in my life walked half naked on streets, only time my shirt comes off is at beach but sometimes i prefer having a sleeves less undershirt on.

In my opinion this fits the profile of classic con-artistry. Remember that guy who made a few million off of selling a weight loss product that was just a vacuum cleaner attached to a trash bag cut into a pair of shorts?
