Gun Ownership should they be a restriction or ban on semi or full auto weapons

Im uk citizen and i own nothing more than a high powered Airgun.Yes because in UK you have to go to a head shrink just for .22 rifle.Me personally i just think i could defend my house from a robber with it no need for gun ownership in any country we have to think of our kids and famlies across the world.Time for a worldwide ban and arms destruction.Yeah fat chance of that happening but in UK its happened. And yeah we have an underground trade and blank weapons drilled out to fire live ammo..thoughts peeps..

Judging by the way you spell and abuse the English language, giving you even a low powered air rifle is probably dangerous.

The Americans need their guns because without them, they'd have nothing else to hold dear, certainly no culture, class or society, and no real history. Their guns are the only way they can feel like a real nation, quite fittingly, their guns are the ruination of their nation.

As for our gun laws, they aren't so bad.

I used to think like you that I could protect my home until three scumbags invaded it to rob me.wasn't pretty but made it difficult for them.got coshed a few times on the head with a panel beaters mallet but lived to tell the tale.best bit was that because one of them decided to hit me again before leaving he dropped a purse containing four hundred quid which he was nicking and never noticed.worth taking the extra whack over the head for.
they got caught leaving my flats by the police,caught red handed.what did they get charged with?breach of the peace,even though they held me down and tried to cut my throat and were caught with three knives and I had blood all over me from a hole in the back of my head.as soon as they got lifted they accused me of selling drugs like this justified it.the police were then more interested in doing me.(which never happened but not for their lack of trying).if we were allowed guns I could have saved the taxpayer a fortune.

Yeah spelling please see teacher lets not get of the subject matter ,i can fire a gun as you call them!!!To a Marksman level and trained on weapon systems much larger.I do not wish to keep or for that matter,or wish to have those in my possession.And you americans dont need semi auto weapons single shot with a clip is more than adequate.I feel with all the nut jobs world wide we are only going to see more blood shed!!!

Hi there...

Are you familiar with Dodge automobiles? The Chrysler 300m shares the same chasis and motor as the Dodge Charger... one is a portrayed as a familysedan... the other as a sporty stock street rod. Both are the same thing... just packaged differently.

The same thing applies to semi-auto rifles. There are tactical military type rifles and then there are hunting rifles... both operate exactly alike... just dressed differently. Pull the trigger once and only one round is fired. Pull the trigger twice in rapid succession, and in rapid succession two rounds are fired.

Fully automatic weapons are highly regulated here in the USA.. practically have to be a "saint" to get one legally.

There in lies the problem... law abiding gun owners have to jump through hoops to get those types of firearms... criminals do not, they just have to have cash and then can purchase them on the black market. And as long as we have rogue nations doing whatever they want, you will have weapons on the black market.

Guns are allowed under the 2nd Ammendment of the US Constitution.

There are more guns in the US than people.

There are more registered hunters in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina than there are US Military personnel... that leaves 47 other states to exceed even that level of registered hunters. This does not include gun owners that do not hunt.

Most gun owners have more than one firearm. Purely anecdotal, but most gun owners I know have 3 or more firearms and many have 10 to 12 firearms. I manage a store that sells gunsafes and a common request is for a gunsafe that will hold as many as 24 rifles...24 long barreled firearms.... per sale... for a household.

2/3rds of all semi-auto gun sales are in the Southern USA... wonder what's up with that?

Why would a racking bolt make you feel any better?

Plenty of people have been killed with bolt action rifles.

A fellow climbed a tower at a Texas University and caused quite a commotion with a bolt action hunting rifle some time ago.

I'd bet $100 if you got what you wanted today you'd be back here tomorrow complaining that bolt action rifles are too dangerous and we should only have break action rifles then the next day you'd be pushing muzzleloaders.

Don't think that because they are criminals means that they HAVE to have guns.

Criminals are armed in response to the expected defense.

I'll start by saying I am a proud owner of multiple firearms and grew up in a house full of guns(over ten).

I don't see a problem with banning fully automatic weapons, I actually think there are already fairly strict laws regarding these types of weapons. There isn't much use for them other than fun at the range, no one in their right mind would go hunting with a fully automatic weapon(in my opinion). The ones used in senseless street crimes and such weren't usually legally purchased, many people forget that. Banning or outlawing these automatic weapons will not get them out of the streets, just look at the situation in Mexico.

As for semi automatic weapons, I do not support any kind of ban. Too many people are confused when they hear semi automatic and assault rifle. Many hunting rifles are also semi automatic, and more than half handguns sold are also semi auto. The only difference between these hunting rifles and so called 'assault rifles' sold to the public are how they look. They fire the same types of ammunition and carry multiple rounds within the weapon. People are just scared of the word 'assault' I suppose.

Personal Disclosure: They can ban all the guns and ammo etc. that TPTB want banned ... I'd like to see them ban petrol, bleach and pipes.

Im sick of people wanting to ban semi autos. These people have no clue what a semi auto is. And lets ban forks too. They make it easy to kill people

Citizens owning guns means the police force have to be armed too, and I don't like the thought of that at all.

Look what happens in the USA, why only yesterday I read a thread on here about armed police in America raiding the wrong address and shooting some family's pet dog dead in front of a terrified child. Absolutely horrific.

But cops in the USA have to be armed because the citizens are armed, I would never go live there because it seems that everyone there has at least 1 gun each. Everyone risks being shot because of it. Life is difficult enough without worrying if I or my family might get shot to death by a neighbour, or even a cop. No thanks.

If I had a magic wand, I'd make every weapon of every description in the world disappear into thin air. I can dream

Incorrect. Cops have to be armed because the CRIMINALS have guns. We can't possibly be deluding ourselves into believing we can prevent CRIMINALS from having banned weapons are we? Even the OP admitted that in the UK guns are banned but they are boring them out to shoot live ammo. So...? The cops have guns to protect themselves from the CRIMINALS, not the legal, law-abiding armed citizen.

Well, hold the phone there. The only ASSAULT rifles that any U.S. citizen can be using legally are NOT fully automatic, they are semi-automatic. An AR 15, a mini 14, etc....they are only legal as semi-automatics. If you jack with them and make them fully automatic then you're in possession of an illegal weapon. So that legislation is already there.
