If I may, Recouper is right and so are you! The "Mann" was out of his league doing what he was doing and so were the Mcdees staff.

This "Mann" also had other enhancements on him.

Steve Mann, showing 3 inventions: MindMesh (mesh-based wearable computing for Brain-Computer-Interaction), "GlassEye" (EyeTap), and HDR (combining multiple differently exposed images to extend dynamic range). Read more: www.nydailynews.com...

Wonder what they do? We can assume that the mind mesh works hand in hand with the eyetap. One records or saves images when an emotional response is felt. Like fear when being assaulted. This stuff is just as wonderful as the discovery of any power/enhancements. I will quote one of my favourite lines from a modern day philosophical fairytale spiderman:

With great power comes great responsibility

Think the world is ready? Maybe the rich are.........This is a huge game changer.

I have no problem when civilians come around recording me or asking me questions on how I feel about certain things or go around and film the store they're in and I'm just there. I only have a problem once the government does this. I don't care if a pervert records when I'm not looking because I won't ever know and it isn't my problem unless I find out. If he was filming me for perverted reasons, you bet that I will go over there and kick his --- and rip out his ----! 0: )

I'm used to cameras, and I'm used to seeing youtube videos where people go around. Now about this case, the guy doesn't seem to have done anything wrong. People record stuff all the time at McDonalds and I've never heard of anything bad coming out of it. In fact, I'm happy that some people record stuff because if you remember there was that transsexual that got beaten up and that old lady was trying to help? Yeah, it was d-kish to just be standing there doing nothing but filming, but the video had an interesting effect, and it got people to think about this more carefully and perhaps defend someone if they're being attacked at a restaurant or anywhere for that matter.

If the guy was asked to take it off and didn't take it off and even the manager says that he doesn't feel comfortable to see someone with a camera in their restaurant, then they could have gotten a refund and left the facility without harm. However, this was not the case and there was assault on this professor.

I don't care what country you're in or what the law says, you ask questions before intervention and you don't take it up on yourself to assault a customer. If you're truly disgruntled about it, call the cops if they don't want to leave and leave it to the legal system. Now they will get maybe 6-months in prison and may have a hard time getting a job from now on, especially at a fast food place.

Just a simple question, Just because the perpetrators are French dose it mean they also can not be redneck hillbillies?

nothing against redneck hillbillies mind you, French or otherwise.

Ignorance is universal, just think of the folks you work around daily, we all know that/those "guy(s)' .

I think it was a hate crime, they hated his apparent wealth (high tech gear) they hated his Knowledge ( showing them papers explaining it and him )

his ignorance of local customs, they REALLY hate that, it's a French trait and guarded.......

they most likely hated the fact the his Family was ok with it as well, it's not like he was making a big deal of it, and they were willing to eat around it (him).

it's scary to think what "might" happen, caused something that DID happen............

I am sorry i forgot to add another users post which is who i was aiming my post at.

The only thing i was directing at you was the fact that his looks should not matter!
So he is wearing some new tech on his head.
Big deal! what are we in the dark ages where we burn people at the stake because we don't understand something, or in this case physically assault someone.
I just don't understand it

But then with the vast interactions i've had with the french this doesn't surprise me.And i hate making generalizations about groups of people. I don't know maybe im biased as i am English!

Well, as he's wearing it for research, maybe he can now conclude that having it attached to your skull is a really stupid idea. That said I don't support the employees actions. I wouldn't attribute that kind of behavior to the French usually, but what do I know. They make retarded mistakes here and there. Poorly maintaining a runway leading to the end of supersonic commercial flight for one.

What about people with hearing aids? Are they going to rip out the ear piece from gramps ear and throw him out because maybe that thing is recording? And really, if you've got some problem with a digital eye, tell the guy to please leave and escort him out. No need to *rip his eye out* (!?) How are people even trying to justify this? That's assault. I can understand it if they said, 'hey buddy, no weird cybernetic eyes allowed in here, you could be recording something.' But this goes way beyond that. F__ McDonalds anyways.

I'd also like to point out that according you OP he was a Canadian so why all the references of France not liking Americans? Maybe Canadians and Americans are all the same to the French.

You can't (legally) go filming in private business or private property without permission.

You also can't get physical with someone who does afaik. Forcibly removing their equipment etc.

If he was on the street looking in on the store that would be legit.

said the same people who thought it was stupid to have a phone, camera, mp3player, internet browser etc in one device.

i don't see your outrage over all the phone cameras taking pictures of random people almost everywhere in the world. or video for that matter, i know my phone is capable of taking video and pictures. i can then immediately upload those videos/photos to any number of social networking sites.

You miss the point, the eyetrap contains a CCD Digital camera.

Recording or not is irrelevant, it has the capability. Don't get me wrong I think the technology is neat, but when people start becoming complacent about being filmed, that's when our privacy will be threatened the most.

He was totally wrong to expect it was his right to walk into anywhere with equipment like this without showing some respect for other peoples privacy & rights. Not just the staff but other punters in the 'restaurant'.

Good on them they were right to stand up for their privacy and call him out.

Not sure if ive missed a reply but you all do know that the glasses do have the ability to stream audio and visual in real time or hasn't that been made public yet?

Besides, if anyone was to approach me in public wearing those glasses then you can bet your life on it that i would tail his a$$ back to his or her point of origin.

What the hell is going on in France that this guy has to carry 'documentation' from his doctor and present said documentation to anyone that asks for it? I'm lost. Why the hell did these three numbskulls suddenly freak out, rip up his 'documentation' and attack him? Is there some historical or racial hatred in France involving cyborgs that we are unaware of? I'm really confused. And does this mean it is open season on people that text and such while they are trying to walk at the same time?

?

Whats going on in France....well its going on across all of Europe but its not been covered by ANY media outlets....and i mean NO media outlets. They are a large and silent but lethal number of anti-big brother movements who act as these three acted. Others operate within the net, others in open view.

This is such an incident. You can be sure that these and others will son been branded as a " potential domestic terrorist " .

Its time to get your head out of the sand...

Damn.. So if you get an electronic eye...

1- you will get beat up by fast food employees
2- Kicked out of businesses, like walmart, because they'll claim you're pricechecking.
3- You will be interviewed by the government because you're instantly suspicious.
4- Automaticly a magnet for police searches and questionares.

I think ALL of this guys wrights as a citizen were stripped illegaly from him, no matter what country he's in.

Just wow.

Dare to be Diffrent.. this is what it'll get ya.

I would say this is on par with children who get picked on in school for looking diffrent.

i.e... so labled "gingers" which I think is pretty pathetic. (Im a red head)

Any assholes that use this term, ever stop and think that the reasons why "gingers have no souls" is because they're ridiculed since damn near birth? No, they dont.

Remember, that same "ginder" might be the one to save your life one day... or not give a souless damn about you.

Same with this guy. I really feel for the crap that so many people deal with today by the hands of arrogant tyrants, and much of those are just your average person on the street. Sad it's so common place and so easily found. Those guys should get Prison, McDs closed ... who ever got a correct order from those idiot no brainers anyways?

Id love to see some serious money go up for grabs in this one.

Considering that the feeling is often mutual, I'm not that surprised. Freedom Fries, anyone?

Seriously, I'm Cajun, French descent, and I don't like the country all that much, and I'm one of the nicer ones about it. lol As In I don't hate the people, just have no use for the country--far nicer.

For Cyborgs to lose human status, what's been replaced has to change who they are... something like a fully mechanized brain?

Btw, a Blood Pump based off the "Archimedes Screw"? is already in tested use.

Only reasonable if the French waiting staff would prefer that we waved our nuts. Seriously, there's an issue with women handing money into a man's hand in some Asian groups, and I don't get trouble from them for it.

Do you work for an international gazzilion dollar company aimed at public restaurant service? Would you "tail his a$$" when wearing a name tag and official company outfit, while being on the job?

Personally I would just assume he's some freakish blogger and tell him to take his food and go sit outside or something.

IMO he should sue their arses off. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable, yes even for the French.

Holy sh#t. As if the French don't have more important things to worry about right now. This sounds like a half-assed barbaric sci-fi short story. I can't believe this crap happens in real life, it really unnerves me. This is by far the most bizarre story I've heard on ATS for a looong time, and that's obviously saying something.

Looks like we're headed for some Terminator bullsh#t soon enough. Two factions - cybernetics and organics fighting it out over where they get to eat. God help us all

Just a thought, I'm not saying that what the McDonald's employees did was right but may be it was because they didn't want people filming or taking photographs of their menus. Just sayin'
