Or how about, maybe just maybe. You all better sit down for this it's a big on. It's just a damn game? Enjoy it, or not. Not everything is out to get you. Games like that use real life events or parodies of life events to make the game believable. It's a work of fiction, and who really cares?
Plus bad press good press, it's all the same it's publicity to push their game out. Some will buy it because its OMFGCoD, some will buy it because they are a video game junkie, some will buy it to see how bad the vilified the occupy movement, and some will least rent it to see what all the hype is about. Video games, movies, books get a bad wrap as it is, why just not let it be and enjoy it for a change.

Those in the video game industry by and large tend to be liberal. So I wouldn't say this is bashing a movement.

The Occupy movement is popular at the moment and this amounts to free publicity, free money.

If I recall, 8 months ago everyone was telling Occupy they needed to be in DC doing things like that. I don't remember them going to DC though. Can you show me a source on that accusation?

Just a thought, but searching Google Occupy D.C. returns 28,400,000 hits and Occupy D.C. violence 8,920,000.

Sourcing the wiki entry affirms everything ATS member NavyDoc related in his post regarding his experience...

Occupy D.C. was an occupation of public space in Washington, D.C. based at McPherson Square and connected to the Occupy movements that sprung up across the United States in Fall 2011. The group has been demonstrating in McPherson Square since October 1, 2011, and in Freedom Plaza since October 6.

Despite crackdowns on other Occupy projects across the country, federal authorities claimed on November 15 that they have no plans to clear McPherson Square Park. The National Park Service decided against eviction after meeting with activists and discussing health and safety conditions...

November 4, 2011: Occupy D.C. held a protest at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center where political advocacy group Americans for Prosperity held their annual Defending the American Dream Summit, attended by conservative politicians and activists.

Protesters blocked exits to the convention center and traffic at intersections around the center. Four protesters were struck by a vehicle while participating in the protest. According to protesters, the vehicle sped up before it deliberately hit the protesters in two separate incidents minutes apart.

According to police, the protesters jumped in front of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not cited by police because he had had a green light at the time. The police have opened an investigation into the incident.

A 78-year-old woman was knocked down while trying to get around an Occupy blockade, The Washington Examiner reported.

December 7, 2011: A march on K Street, Washington's D.C.'s lobbying corridor, drew protesters from around the country and led to the arrest of 62 people, one for allegedly assaulting a police officer, and the other 61 for obstructing a public highway

January 17, 2012: A rally and occupation of the United States Capitol, Washington's D.C.'s legislative body and the meeting place of the United States Senate and House of Representatives...

At around 8:30 PM, a group estimated to have included 1,000 to 1,500 people marched in Washington D.C. streets from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol to the U.S. Supreme Court, where people filled up all the stairs leading up to the front doors of the building.

The march then continued all the way to the front of the White House where at one point, someone threw a smoke bomb over the fence, causing a lock down to occur. The march then travelled all the way back to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

What if no one had posted a source?

Would you continue to argue that Navydoc's commentary on Occupy D.C.'s was an accusation? You certainly could have sourced it for yourself much faster than challenging the veracity of the claim.

Whether through an honest ignorance or purposeful disingenuousness, this trend of dishonest representation of the facts regarding the undesirable elements seems endemic to many of those who continue to support the Occupy protests and only further alienates the general public.

If they had used 98.5% instead, I would not be so angry right now. But this will not fly, I'm sorry.

It looks like the same mindless drivel they put out in black ops. As far as the 99% stuff goes....meh whatever. Would anyone be happier if it was the teabaggers or the green party, or even the legalize it party. Its just a game, the average player of these games, dont care about the story they just want to blow stuff up

After months of teasing, Treyarch has finally revealed the villain of its upcoming first person shooter, Black Ops 2.

The game’s main villain is Raul Menendez, described as the “idolized Messiah of the 99%”—a Julian Assange-like character who’s old, experienced, and hell bent on starting a global insurrection against the status quo. He hands Sgt. Frank Woods, the protagonist of the first game, a necklace at the end of the trailer which symbolizes a connection between the two characters.

This is propaganda at its finest and a slap in the face to Occupy! :lol

They have vilified Occupy and are conditioning the masses. Anybody who has read my threads knows that I’m no fan of the Occupy movement because of their violent and destructive actions time and again, so I think this portrayal is pretty funny. Obviously this game is fictional in nature. We all know Occupy doesn’t even have a ‘leader’, at least that's what we're lead to believe.

However, I find it interesting that this is coming not from the government or news media but from the entertainment industry.

Is the anti-Occupy sentiment spreading??

dude...ur bit at the bottom.......... the entertainment industry is run/controlled by the govt....and so is the news...wake up sheepy. I woke up about a year ago and its great...dont be living in fear completely reliant on a system that kills thousands daily...if your not catching on i suggest you watch zeitgeist 1,2,3 or thrive...dare ya to, nah u havnt got the balls like i thought.....to scared to jump into the world of truth that deep down the child in you knows exists. peace

I never liked these games in the first place, they marginalize the horrors of war and even make kids believe it's fun and cool and full of honor. It already was propaganda before this... but now they are making these kids believe the greatest threat to America could be the 99% of people who want to change America and they are getting them to fight a virtual war against them, so they might be more likely to fight against them when the time comes. It's nothing but status-quo brainwashing teaching them to always kiss the ass of the war machine no matter what their orders are. This is completely sickening on all levels. The people who created this game should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks, ChaoticOrder. Although I don't agree with you about war games in general (because I can separate a war game from real war and have completely different opinions about both), I do agree with you completely about this particular game. How is someone who is fighting for the 99% an enemy? We need people like that in this world.

Back in the day, video games used to take pride in having the hero take down corrupt corporate or government leaders. For example, in the game Perfect Dark, a corrupt business called dataDyne is stopped from world domination by a more honorable corporation - the Carrington Institute, that operates its own espionage division.

To take a complete 180-degree turn and make video games focusing on taking down those criticizing the corrupt corporations and government is a dangerous one.

However, I will have to play the game to know for sure, because it is possible that this leader of the 99% is simply using them to promote his own agenda.

Waking up to the truth about corrupt corporations and government has not really helped me much, since I don't have the resources to make it in this world or defend myself against them easily, much less protect others from their influence. I started a business about two years ago, and my business partner, who in the beginning was really interested in helping people and making a difference in the world, has slowly turned towards being more interested in making a profit and screwing people out of their money.

I don't think this is a very healthy attitude to have as the leader of a business, for many reasons, for one, helping people is much more lucrative than screwing people over. It's a lot less stressful, too and just better in general. But I'm going to have to step in to these business negotiations and straighten things out, and my point is, it doesn't really help me to know that businesses and governments are corrupt, because I still have to deal with it everyday and it just gets sick and annoying.

Other than that, you are right on the money.
