Is Chicago now under Martial Law? Evacuation and Blockade of Downtown Chicago!

I live within walking distance of the City of Chicago proper. A few things. First off the Mayor is Rahm Emmanuel, remember him? The guy who said 'don't let a crisis go to waste'? He pushed to host the NATO and G8 in Chicago. However as you may or may not know the G8 has been diverted to Camp David. That said I am not worried anything will happen.
Also, there are more people murdered in Chicago every week than soldiers dying in Afghanistan, a war zone. It is a dangerous city in some areas. Again, I'm not worried. If anything does happen it is the government yet again playing their silly control the sheep with fear game.
There are no tanks on the outskirts of Chicago.
There currently is no martial law of any kind going on.
Yet, why does a guy who is a top person in the current administration decide he wants to step down and become mayor of the just barely 3rd largest city in the USA?
Kinda makes you go huh....

There are very good reasons why people keep track of "disaster prep" exercises and rehearsals. For some completely random, statistically odd reason they always seem to be occurring when a terror incident happens.

Events like this also provide a great cover story. They attract protestors (real or contrived) and if the media claims some disturbed individual or an organized group chooses it to conduct some kind of attack the general public will tend to believe it.

Everyone knows these large scale meetings, rallies, conventions attract the nutters like moths to a flame, right?

Just as there are certain places specific types of people don't go because they are not safe, there are specific events you should probably avoid:

1. Downtown Seattle on May Day or during WHO conventions
2. Political Conventions
3. NATO, G8 or any other world government summit
4. Any hunting trip including Dick Cheney

Being Mayor of Chicago is a powerful political position even if its not at the height of the old Mayor Daley, he's effectively King of Illinois, more so now with the destruction of the Republic half of the old bi-partisan combine. Its also a job that he played his cards right he can hold onto for a long time and only increase in power, whereas with being chief of staff of Obama at most he gets another 4 years being another man's lackey.

The more I read of Chicago & the upcoming NATO summit the more I think it would be in everyone's best interest were NATO officials & representatives to convene on an atoll out in the Pacific.

Okay, what the hell guys? What is going on here?? I get the need to have NATO summits and G-8 Summits and G-20 and eventually we'll have a summit just so everyone can meet and plan out the next year's schedule of more summits.

THIS isn't 'any summit' though and now we're hearing about a No-Fly zone? FOR CHICAGO?! O-HARE?! This is the most outright, short sighted nepotistic criminal crap I have EVER seen, and that is saying something with nearly 40 years to work from. Nepotism, because NOTHING else makes sense for why Chicago is the city of choice, damned everything and everyone and ANY price this costs the people who live there ...even if NOTHING bad happens.

Why Chicago? Why This City? It's one of the most critical cities to economics in the United States. It's not like shutting down Davenport, Iowa for a couple days. This city's business directly touches business all over the world. Military Presence?? No FLY zones in that place, of all places??

Hey, why is it when every World Leader currently serving land in New York City at the same time for the primary United Nations General Assemblies, NYC doesn't feel the need to end the cities business pretty much outright for a couple days straight, call in the military and close the major city Airports???? See what I mean here?? What is happening with this? It's making NO sense.


If these people know about a threat that really DOES justify this, and they go ahead anyway thinking they're all too terribly clever for it to happen....and it DOES HAPPEN? Whatever "it" is, will be known for 100 years forward as the event that ended the current sitting U.S. Government. Have they even considered that? The American Public will storm D.C. EN MASSE if a major attack hits Chicago this month and simply cancelling this damn Summit was all it would have taken to save thousands...or a million.

Did you see those troops doing "maneuvers" in a suburban Minnesota neighborhood yesterday? The plan is in full motion to end the Constitution and all of the rights that come with it.

I live in Chicago and no it's not under martial law... yes they are preparing the for summit, but everything is still very normal in the city... The detention centers down in Joliet Illinois are being used becasue Cook County jail wont be able to house all the 'expected' arrested demonstraters...

They will make people go insane if they do not respect them and their civil liberties. You start cracking heads and arresting people and you WILL bring out the worse in them. It is best to allow civilized dissent rather than absolute silence to opposition. They will create a situation in which things will get out of control.

Becuase at past summits they've arrested that many protesters, so its only logical to think that history could repeat itself again... There is nothing wrong with simple demonstration, and the majority the people play nice, but there are always a few bad apples that try to stir the crowd, and try to turn a peaceful protest, violent... I have no problem with them implementing higher security or higher laws in the "red zone", this summit has the heads of state representing their countries and its the United States responsibility to make sure they're safe...

Quite a few new updates about the NATO situation and the updates include large road closures and areas to be roped off due to perimeter restrictions. Chicagoans are being told to expect intermittent closures between O'Hare and downtown. The Kennedy is a freaking nightmare to begin with, I cannot imagine what it would be like to live there during all of this. WIllis Tower (old Sears Tower) will be shut down due to some NATO-related social event, prior to the actual summit, as well as the musuem campus in downtown. Makes the concpiracy theorists shouting about an imminent attacks on Willis Tower as the FF seem not so crazy Anyway, this is the most interesting new thing:

Areas all over Illinois are now being told to set up to prepare for possible evacuations of the city, including a college in Lisle, Il, who was told by the DuPage County Red Cross to expect up to 1000 evacuees. Cots and showers will be provided and volunteers can expect to work overnight shifts for long periods of time. This is in addition to the Milwaukee Red Cross thing from earlier in the week/last week, and is only one of dozens to be asked to provide shelter for (potential) evacuees.

I'm sorry, but this is just nuts. It's not like the possibility for an attack, it's like they're expecting one.

I'm heading out by Lisle, IL today, I'll stop by Benedictine University (I'm assuming thats the college) Im curious to see if I can see anything... If I see anything strange, Ill take pictures and let you know what I find....

Since I'm living out west now, I can only tell you how my family is reacting to it, since they still live there. My mom and dad are the ones that have mentioned it; they both live in areas to the south of chicago. They say the news coverage of NATO is constant, but they didn't start thinking anything was weird until they started involving different towns, in and out of Illinois, to be shelter areas. I found out most of this from my mother yesterday, she is concerned about how large the restricted areas have now become and the amount of military and others present already in the city, leading up to NATO. She saw some footage of truckloads of horses, guessing for the mounted police, which they do have, but she said the amount of horses is an extreme compared to normal. She spoke with my aunt, who takes the south shore line into chicago, and my aunt is going to call off work for that monday, because the amount of time they are taking to sweep the trains and pat down everyone on each car is ridiculous and she will not make it to work on time.

That's all i know now, I'll post more if I know more
