Lawyers on behalf of 5 elected officials and over half a dozen members of the press filed a major lawsuit today in federal court alleging the City of New York, the MTA, the New York Police Department, Brookfield Properties, JP Morgan Chase and others are in violation of numerous civil rights, including First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly. The suit seeks redress for police misconduct in arrests made during the “Occupy Wall Street” protests and asks that a federal independent monitor be appointed to oversee the NYPD in order to safeguard the public. The 143 page complaint submitted by a group of civil rights attorneys including Leo Glickman, Yetta G. Kurland and Wylie Stecklow, was filed today in United States District Court in the Southern District and includes a 24 minute video which highlights the use of excessive force and selective enforcement which many have claimed has become an issue over the past 6 months during the “Occupy” protests.

JP Morgan gave NY PD 4.6 million in donations. I hope this suit cost them a fortune! Lets hope crime doesn't pay and law enforcement isn't just another thing that can be bought and sold in this country.

Good, they should actually not do a class action suit though. Any protester wrongfully arrested or subjected to police brutality should sue individually, tie them up in court for ages. Occupy the NYPD

In other words you want money to be able to buy justice, local laws and law enforcement policy. You want it to be okay that protesters are beaten and arrested in violation of the Constitution.

speculative... Theres no proof.... nothing concrete that wasnt edited... I've seen the destruction of OWS and I really do support the city and state... they have damages to cover.... who is going to pay for that?

As much as they tried to block it, there is proof. Apparently you missed the pictures that were plastered ALL over the internet of the police officer spraying protesters in the face with pepper spray, or didn't hear about the US veteran that now has brain damage after being struck in the head with tear gas canister. Surely you can't expect anyone to believe that you honestly think that no ones rights were violated and that you somehow missed the many numerous reports, video, and pictures of police brutality and peoples civil rights being trashed. Really? Come on now your online so I know you haven't been living in cave the whole time. This isn't Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna is it?

Dude if it is, you are SO all over the internet.

I consider those Obstruction of Justice! and so did the cops

maybe if permits were in order, and there wasn't feces / urine / used condoms and cig butts all over my park after OWS left I would take their side... However in my mind they were protesting illegally

I seem to remember pics, video, and reports of the protesters helping clean the place up. To each his own I guess. We see what we want to see and believe what we want to believe. Late when I have time I will post you some pics of the mess the GOP left here in my town when they came to visit.

There shouldn't be a legal way to protest. Making protest laws pull us further from our basis of freedom. Protests are there because people are crying out in pain and looking for help. The system is fixed against us, it wasn't always, but it is now. Voices should be heard. Ignorance is at a high. These times are interesting indeed.

how is that possible when no one supports them anymore except their core base? I have been able to sway tons of people away from OWS mentality just based on how they act at events on LIVE STREAM! They are acting this way to do what exactly?

I am not against myself... I am for capitalism... If JP Morgan makes a HUGE profit... I respect that as an American, I'm not jealous that someone has more than me...

I somehow doubt you were able to do that. Let me ask you...you realize that a police force that is militarized even if only slightly, a police force that continuously breaks laws, accepts money from private firms (you see where I'm going here) etc... is police force that could potentially enable a dictator to usurp the Constitution. Who is POTUS atm? Oh yeah...The MIC er Big Oil er Big Banks er Obama. This is how dictatorships come about, erode civil rights buy off law enforcement, turn rebels into scum so that they cheer as they are rounded up and treated differently under the "law". Let me ask you something else, if the Second Amendment is the only Amendment you will fight for, who is going to stand with you and fight...because that will be last one.

ETA it's not the protesters "they" are using to usher in harsher eroding of our Rights, it is the fools eating up the rhetoric your corporate media feeds you. You are the ones making it all okay.

except quite the opposite has happened...

the protestors acting a fool out there are creating laws and more regulations

anon hacking brought us SOPA and PIPA and now CISPA

soon no masks will be allowed in protesting...

all OWS did was prove that kids are too irresponsible for the real world...

is that the parents faults?

No, that is where you are fatally wrong. The government uses such as excuses to usher in their ever authoritarian agenda and people like you who buy the excuses and say well yeah we gotta do something bout those _____. When there are already laws in place to deal law breakers, including protesters.

ETA It's exactly the same thing Democrats so with gun laws and democrat voters go oh yeah so and so shouldn't have a gun and guns shouldn't be allowed here, here, and here. Outlaw guns because they kill. Sound familiar?

and thats where OWS's fatal flaw comes in... There's no execution no follow through...

so what has all this protesting accomplished??? besides making over 75% of the country not agree with your cause?

You live across the street right? These were not just a bunch of kids out there. I was impressed to see so much diversity in race and age represented at OWS. You must have seen it as well being so close and all.

Read my edit and to answer your question, is the corruption more exposed? Yes. Without going into a long explanation that you won't read...that's just the tip of what Occupy has done so far.
