Explain to me how Homosexuals are "born that way".

all of this can be summed up by looking at left handed people.

left handed people are a small portion of the population, like homosexuals, so lets ask the same questions.
are left handed people born that way, or is it a preference?
can a left handed person be taught to be right handed and live that way?
is there a "left handed" gene?
can two right handed people have a left handed child?

my answers:

lefties are born that way. you see them at birth reach for things with their left hand. sex drive developes at puberty, so at puberty homosexuality will show itself.
back in the day lefties were often taught to be righties, but their first reaction was to always use their left hand. same with homosexuals. some can "learn to be straight", but will always be gay.
no evidence of a left handed gene, but we assume there must be one because we have left handed people.
two righties do have lefty children.

one person wrote that if behavior was caused by genetics we have no free will. apples and oranges. being born with a mental defect is genetic, and it effects behavior. it has nothing to do with free will.

Why does the OP author care so much about who anyone else has sex with?

Nobody is born gay or straight we are just born. We can't even comprehend what it is until we learn about it maybe 5 years later. So for someone to say "the same way redheads are born that way" or he was born gay is just ignorant and looking for excuses.

If I choose to have sex with a girl, that's my choice. If I choose to have sex with a man, that's my choice. Attraction is different, however. That's what I'm interested in. Where the attraction comes from.

More like they have a greater chance of coming out of the closet and living an openly gay life. A lot of people never come out of the closet because their parents would disown them.

My point is simple.
Sexual preferences are derived mostly from past influences.
Mostly from a lack of a strong father figure.
Add to that genetic problems from endocrine disruptors and the debate quickly changes.
The op makes a very valid point in asking the questions.
It is too big a scapegoat to say it's genetic when very little has ever been claimed without addressing everything when those studies are done.
It's no secret that most studies are funded to find pre-supposed results or the funding stops.
Money drives most if not all of these studies today.
Without a clear grasp of everything involved these studies will always remain subjective.
But maybe thats why they are done in this way.
It's just to easy to claim anyone is born this way, or God made them this way.
Jails and prisons are full of people that make the same claim for many other reasons.

I don't think there is a one size fits all explanation for how someone becomes a homosexual.. for people, I think it can be different ..

Some people "go gay" after a bad relationship.. my lesbian friend admits she's still attracted to guys, but after bad experiences with men she's "changed teams"

In others, it could literally be a hormonal thing.. for some it might just be a matter of attraction.. you can't really control who you're attracted to .. be it male or female.

For some, how they were raised.. childhood experiences.. things like that can come into play..

But ultimately for me it comes down to this... why does it matter? why do you care? .. it's their life, let them love who they love..

I am addressing the increase of homosexual activity in recent years and the statistics that were presented in this thread.
To ignore my points is not productive in this type of adult conversation where critical thought processes are necessary.

Do you agree with everything god says in the old testament op? There's some pretty saucy stuff in there that I'm sure you don't believe in.
