What's worse in the big picture, though... someone who gets many abortions (though they could have avoided them with some simple measures) or someone who has many kids (though they could have avoided them through simple measures)?

Well that is one disturbing addiction to have, but it still doesn't trump the addiction to money that is FAR MORE PREVALENT and leads men to kill and torture. Nor does it trump the abuse so many children endure at the hands of those opposing abortion, or condoms even.

ONE person is addicted to this, while in her place, millions adopt children and raise those children as their own. I don't think you even know what faith means.

Abortion addiction is really messed up and strange, but its like any other addiction.

Not exactly I'm afraid. In most cases addiction is personal and affects the person who exhibits the addiction. Of course it may have some affect on those close to the addict but primarily only physically affects the sufferer.

In this case, abortion adversely affects another life; fatally. In fact in this case, the sufferer or addicts life is rarely in danger in this procedure but the life the sufferer is carrying is snuffed out.

I will have to politely disagree. Nor am I judging. What I am doing is saying that these people clearly need treatment coupled with a more responsible approach to contraception. Failing that; perhaps a more permanent form of contraception.

Im for freedom of choice and control over your own body (including abortion) but this woman should be tried as a premeditating mass murderer.

Sounds like a kind of Munchausens by proxy sort of thing.

Addicted to the aftercare that is given. As losing a baby is a really tragic thing, and is a sure way to get the attention someone craves.

I have been studying "abnormal" psychology on and off for years, and a lot in the last 6 months, there is always a underlying cause that drives people to do these kind of things.

These sort of behaviour are always usually a means to an end of drawing attention to themselves, as either helpless, or indulging in a kind of practice that really gets people talking.

There are so many reasons why people do this and other things of this nature. It is also a problem more akin of the times we live in today. It encompasses a feeling that a person of this type of nature, of having felt totally neglected. Its a form of taking control.

The normal response is disgust. But in actual fact these kind of people for what ever reason, either need a great deal of help and support - and are quietly/desperately crying out for it.

It is tragic what people can do to themselves (and in turn others), in order to get the help they need.

How sick! Just when I thought I was going to have a good day, I had to run into an article like this to start it off with. People like this need to be put down. No questions asked..!

I knew a woman who had 3 abortions in about a year, none of the pregnancies were her boyfriends of 5 years. She was messing around with one of my associates (who is a total douche bag), when he told me this I felt compelled to confront her the next time I saw her in my place of business...the conversation ended in me telling her that she should be aborted! The total lack of human dignity I saw in this psychopathic woman (or rather girl as she was only biologically a woman) was disgusting. How someone can go through life lying to themselves about murdering their own child in beyond me, however you try to rationalize it to clear you conscience...a woman who kills her own child inside of her is the worst kind of murderer, and then to do it over and over again...this is serial infanticide.
Our world is so sick, once upon a time freedom and liberty meant the freedom to raise a family, and to protect your land and home, and the liberty to seek opportunity. Now freedom means the freedom to kill your unborn children, and the liberty to be open about perversions like taking it in the butt, and porn addictions. These things are corrosive to a healthy society, and all this hedonism will eventually collapse our society. This is a fact proven throughout history and has been a major contributing cause of societal collapse in the past, one needs only look at ancient Rome...by the time the more disciplined warrior culture called the Goths invaded Rome they were confronted by a society of flaming faggots, sex addicts, obese food addicts, and greedy gold hoarders with no food to last a siege. By the time the Goths broke through the roman gates the Romans were eating each other. The U.S.A. will suffer a similar fate...

I am pro choice. With that said this is disgusting. There is no excuse. It is one thing to get raped and forced to choose, but this is taking it too far. She should be fixed and locked up for murder. I call it murder because it seems premeditated to sell a book. Put me in front of a pro choice jury and I believe I could prove it. She deserves all the hate that comes her way. She is slime. I hope she doesn't sell a single copy, loses every bit of credibility in her profession, and loses the ability to procreate.

I can scarcely come up with words to demonstrate my disgust or repulsion for this vile selfish putrid excuse of human flesh. I would only hope one of these procedures would prove fatal. 16 humans have lost their life at the choice of this piece of rubbish...... and why...? If she were run over by a trash truck, I would hope the trash truck was not soiled or damaged as it squashed her brains on the pavement.

This is an extremely unsettling article.

I read the full three pages and I am now feeling nauseated.

In the article, Vilar admits that she was taking oral contraceptives during her chain abortions, but was not responsible about it:

"In the beginning I was taking pills and I'd skip a day or two or give up one month," she said. "I'd think I'll be better next time. But slowly, my days took on a balancing act and there was a specific high. I would get my period and be sad, then discover I was pregnant, being afraid, yet also so excited."

Vilar said many women who have repeat abortions show a certain "recklessness."

The excuses that Vilar gives throughout the article - that her mindset was influenced by her family's past, her bad marriage, by the media, by society - are outrageous.

This article is biased, too. Vilar admits she has an abortion addiction. This is known as behavioral addiction, and addressed as a mental health issue.

The author of the article, though, still tries to convince the reader that abortion is a-ok, if "used properly":

Mental Problems Not Tied to Abortion "A lot of times the circumstances are unusual and complicated," said Rachel K. Jones, a senior research associate who co-authored the report.

"There's always a lot more going on than someone who does not want to use contraception." An American Psychological Association task force concluded that mental health problems are "not a direct result" of choosing to have one abortion.

But the 2008 report did note that many "confounding factors might indicate mental problems" in women who have repeat abortions. "The research is not really great," said APA spokesman Kim Mills. "It's very hard to tease out."

And

Women who have had multiple abortions face a potential risk for cervical damage and uterine lesions which can compromise future pregnancies, according to Dr. Louis Weinstein, chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

"Medically, in the proper hands, it's a very safe procedure and doesn't have much impact on future pregnancies until you get to four or more," he told ABCNews.com. "But in the long run, most do fine."

I am profoundly disturbed and upset on a very deep level that Vilar is being portrayed as a victim.

This seems like a psychiaric condition, but why the big outrage, even from self titled pro-choice people in this thread? How is this different than 10 women having the same amount of abortions in the actual consequences (number of lives killed)? Why should this be suddenly "sick", when normal abortion is not? Either killing a fetus is wrong, or it is not.

People who claim this woman is somehow evil or should be prosecuted are not really pro-choice. There is nothing immoral in this, save perhaps for wasting the resources of the healthcare system, since no person is harmed, except maybe for the woman herself (fetus is not a person). No persons, no victims, no crime.

She should donate the dead fetuses to stem cell research, then it would actually be a positive act, not just morally neutral.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was Sarah Silverman's abortions through the years.

Good job not reading more than what the OP posted... Most of her abortions were during a marriage to a man that told her that children killed sexual desire for him.

I'm pro choice but this is disgusting. Women like her and WeBrooklyn's ex aquaintance deserve to have their sexual organs flat out removed. Donate the egg, transplant the uterus (yes, it's possible) or whatever. Just take away their right to bear children as they have abused both themselves and the children they could have had.

Getting an abortion because it is your last defense and you have no means of supporting it is one thing, but abortions for the sake of attention or addiction to pain killers or killing is disgusting and these women should be put in an asylum and have their sex organs either removed or be forced to choose a contraceptive. I'm pro choice and I'm saying that excessive abortion is flat out unnecessary killing, not a last resort for someone who isn't ready. Ugh! Some people just strive to ruin everything for everyone after them!

If she were to remain having unprotected sex with a man that basically said he wouldn't have sex with her if they had a kid, there is something psychologically out of tune in her head. That's just disgusting of both her for doing it and her husband for endorsing it.
