Im so glad you are cleaning house here. It will be a pleasure to be able to read posts from people who inspire thought, instead of reading posts from people spewing hate and stupidity and wondering why Im still a memeber of ATS. But I would hate to miss a post from JeanPaul or fail to get the news before it makes the news. Again, thank you.

Actually about to ask why it was deleted...because I was against racism and such not for it. I was not being hateful just asking a question and giving examples that could be research and validated.

Now, whereever you stand on the issue, from a more conservative standpoint the NYT article is a good example of MSM left-wing bias. And like it or not, the preponderant political stance on ATS is also left-wing. Conservatives do not get a fair hearing here. Christians are regularly attacked, and Muslims are apologized for. Now, so I don't get accused of bias myself, I will say that extreme fundamentalist Christianity is simply not "my cup of tea" and leave it at that, But I certainly sympathize with the way they are treated here. They are under constant attack.

There have definitely been some posters that let their racism and hatred shine through, but there has been an equal surge in people charging others with racism where there is none. Saying someone is a racist is a pretty serious accusation and starts just as many fights.

Most important being racist will always hurt your argument, and always hurt the cause. I personally have been on both sides of this argument (the Zimmerman/Martin case) and at first I was very vocal in my opinion that Zimmerman was guilty. Lately evidence has come to light and changed my opinion. I share a race with neither of the men as neither are white, have supported both, yet people have still implied I was racist just because I argued on behalf of Zimmerman. In my opinion the evidence speaks for itself and people's opinions will fall in line with what it suggests (even if it changes again and shows Zimmerman is guilty - even though it shows the opposite now). Being racist just makes people opposed to whatever you are supporting by association.

Remember you represent your ideas. If you are racist and then someone goes through your post or sees a banner under your post and it has a politician you support they will reject everything about you. So I find it really annoying to see people with Ron Paul banners saying racially insensitive things (even though I haven't seen any being truly racist),

I couldn't agree more.
This type of thing doesn't belong in the ATS community.

However, WHEN the double standard gets REALLY EXTREME . . . as it does with some frequency

it gets REALLY DISCOURAGING.

Benevolent (or otherwise) dictatorship is definitely your right as site owner. I just hope you don't practice equivalency like the media, which treats ignorance with the same respect as informed knowledge and then promotes conflict between the two instead of calling out the idiot. One thousand learned, non-politically aligned scientists can provide years of evidence and peer-reviewed material to assert the existence of man made global warming. Meanwhile a gaggle of politically motivated, non-scientist pundits and politicians rant about it being a lie, often bringing out their bibles and few crackpots as proofs for their "side." The press treats them with equal respect. It is a big problem in our society, this inability and/or unwillingness to distinguous fact from opinion and to call out ignorance when encountered.

Ignorance and dogma expressed vehemently as fact and used to smear or blame should be accorded no respect.

My language skills have consistently been the highest rated in all my English classes 1-14.

My IQ is above genius.

However, given my particular unique constructions on reality . . .

I don't do "THREATENING-MYSTIFYING-CRYPTIC" very well at all.

Actually, I don't do most types of cryptic well in some contexts. I can think of too many possible meanings and have too hard a time distinguishing which is the most probable.

Just a side note but even this thread perfectly highlights the fact that anything can be argued and all too often quality threads and posts are diluted with those who simply want to argue. Hopefully the new TOS covers this kind of blight as well. I know we all love a good debate, but to what end? Should there not be a basis for debate other than the "look at me, I can formulate and opinion" fodder simply hurled to spurr argument for the sake of argument alone?

With all the racism, bigotry, hate speech and the like floating around ATS, we don't have to worry about the "divide and conquer" strategy of TPTB. We are doing it to ourselves.

Yep.. if you can't beat an argument, you can always call the person arguing a racist I guess.
It's a shame. I used to be vehemently liberal. As I have moved to a more libertarian point of view I see that the new left is more like the old right. My liberal friends on facebook seem so ignorant and blind to me. They don't realize they are liberals calling for the blood of a man in this case and trusting the media because the victim was black.


The old left used to fight for the truth especially if it was the unpopular point of view. Now they will buy right into the MSM and they are trying to fight the same fight as the liberals of the 60's, but that fight is pretty much over. They are the ones that are holding onto it. Racism exists, but it is not at the default position in my opinion. It is no longer publicly acceptable and that is all that needed to change really, because racism will never go away it is not possible. If you deleted it it will spring back up spontaneously.
