Yeah, but, the Cuban Missile Crisis happened, and for good reason. according to your logic, the entire Cold War would have had to be a smoke screen... a laughable idea to say the least.
I'm fairly well versed in the Cold War and have read a lot about the CMC, theres no room for the possibility that it happened under false pretence.
Besides, Kennedy was in the Whitehouse, and I thought you Americans trusted him unconditionally?! With Marilyn Monroe wrapped around him, how could u not?

Very interesting stuff, one of the best threads posted in a long time.
I must ask though, why would they send our smartest people to Mars?
Their logic is absurd. Mars is already a steaming pile of crap.
Earth isn't doing too bad as it is. And it would be impossibly hard to rebuild Mars.
Why not just send everyone else to Mars and keep our smartest people here?

Would you send the dumbest people to figure out the biggest problem your people ever faced ?

You entirely missed my point. The whole "Alternative 3" is supposed to be a plan to save Humans from destroying themselves. Apparently they think we're going to destroy the Earth so they planned this whole scheme to send our best and brightest onto Mars. But that makes no sense because Mars is already a desolate wasteland. I don't see the logic in that. It would be much easier to simply change our ways then try to make Mars hospitable. We couldn't turn the Earth into another Mars no matter how hard we tried. Perhaps if we nuked the whole planet we could do it fairly quickly, but other than that I just can't see why this Alternative 3 plan is even logical. They'd need a planet better than Mars for it to be logical.
What if they already used the best and brightest and those best and brightest had decided there was nothing we could do to save Earth from whatever was going to happen ?
plan B would then be to send those same bright minds to Mars to survey it, and figure out the best way to start and maintain a colony on mars.
In his last public appearance at a political gathering, the Eleventh Congress of the RCP(B), Lenin had warned that the state machine was escaping from the control of the Communists: "The machine refused to obey the hand that guided it. It was like a car that is not responding to the steering, but going in the direction someone else desired as if it were being driven by some mysterious, lawless hand - God knows whose, perhaps of a profiteer, or of a private capitalist, or of both. Be that as it may, the car is not going quite in the direction the man at the wheel imagines, and often it goes in an altogether different direction."
