I keep seeing that said, clearly people that keep repeating that line have not dug deep into the different meanings of the Greek and Hebrew
transliteration of those words to "hell". A spirit person or a physical human put into Hades, Sheol, Gehenna, Lake Of Fire, Tartarus or the Abyss the
bible speaks of is separated from God. But they might not be alive, in fact they are not alive in 4 of those.
Those in Sheol/Hades actually have some level of hope of returning to life at a later time.
Saying it is simply separation from God is an over simplification. Being dead obviously separates you from God.
And if only spirit creatures can be placed alive in Tartarus and the Aybss they too are separated from God.
Spirit creatures never go into Sheol or Hades, their journey is in this order, first Tartarus then the Abyss and finally Gehenna where they are dead
and gone.
