You don't know me so don't judge, I actually know a lot about central offices...and the whole Bell system, working in the field for 30 some odd years.

And, to confuse Interstate traffic, with infra-state traffic, vs long distance...is missing the point. the connections will begin with small groups at a local level.

That is the beginning, and quite frankly, how it started in the first place.

I guess you did not read my post, so.... what is your point? Do you have any idea about "regular telephone numbers"? Behind the central office, alot get routed via the internet as well.

And, I did read your post...Ham radio is great for voice, just not data...we thrive on data...I'm just not ready to go back to the 50's Ty, though we may have to...and your words and advice did not go unheeded. I prefer to pick up at a different point in technology...and to state that modems, and local phone numbers, won't get the job done is just not being completely truthful, and point to point relay services do not go through the internet,
maybe it is you who do not understand, that is all.

So what would YOU do if you woke up tomorrow and the internet was...... GONE

No biggie there is always the aethernet, much more streamlined. And no typing or contraptions involved. It all works by magic.

Or there are other nets out there, whats the guberment gonna do shut down the internet and put themselves out of business. Ridiculous! Most likely more rules and regulations, for control type systems which wont work unless they do it over a long period of time spanning generations. But we can always make some other internet that way we can all type things at eachother again.

But the best option is to go out and smell the roses. If there are no roses, oh well, play some ball or read a book or something.

Tough I would miss the cat pictures I confess, and it is one thing this thread is lacking.

Lol it would be time to go to NYC and start handing out paper copies of my "book." if they're actually stupid enough to try that there are going to be an awful lot of angry people in the U.S.

I disagree with pulling the plug and going without altogether. The internet saved my life. Literally. And it's helping to save others lives too.. if it were gone, myself and all those people would die..

me too...I have so many projects
I would have the cleanest house too!

Sometimes, I get really bored with going online...those days I feel so productive..but then I fall back into my old habits of ATS..Pinterest...Etsy..blogs...
I have to say not knowing when the world is going to end..worrying about the weird noises and pandemics that are going to put us all in FEMA camps...or how Anon..is going to end all would be nice
ATS is like that horrible accident on the side of the road..you really don't want to look..but you can't help it !

I'd react in exactly the same way Seven of Nine did, when they first unplugged her from the Borg.

"Where are the others?!" *shrieking hysterically* "I CAN'T HEAR THE OTHERS!!"

When I'm not here I am on automotive and motorcycle forums looking for deals on performance parts and speed equipment... I have accumulated thousands of$$$ in parts that I need to install... That's just for the little 1500cc station wagon. If I could free myself from this keyboard for 5 or 6 days I could get my 0 to 60 times into the area of mid 5 seconds.

At some point I realized, the best thing I can do on the internet before our government tries to censor it is find as many books as possible and READ. Reading is the best way for me to gain knowledge, I enjoy videos but they lack complexity, reading requires using the imagination which seems to work better for me idk why...

I wouldn't be worried, I have a stockpile of pdf I've been collecting for the past few years, enough to fill a small library! The internet is a distraction, sometimes I enjoy getting away, sitting back and diving in. If I had to do something else, well, I wouldn't go back to TV. I haven't seriously watched TV for anything but the occasional sporting event since... what... 2006? If you consider my years kickin' it, that's pretty good I'd say.

But seriously, I can imagine the MAJORITY would TWEAK out if the internet went down. God forbid if the internet and cell phones went out. I can't stand having a cell phone! It's odd to see how conditioned the now 'majority' is... Really bizarre!

I'm out for the night. Peace&love to all of my ats brothers and sisters goodnight

I'm sure the Post Office would love it. I think I would do like others and read more books.

Isn't it funny at how many positive replies we have seen here. Seems like the internet really is holding us back!

Once the internet goes, the rest of technology will fall like domino's. I for one would be glad to see the back of it.

Considering that I am either on internet or in sleep I would shoot myself in the knee. Seriously, I don't know what I'll do. Really need to research and find something for backup.

What would i do if the Internet shut down?

I'd like to say I'd be more productive....but I'd probably just go back to watching lots of TV, and actually be less productive.

The internet has done more for society than you ever will. Lose the egos; Stopping taking things for granted.

Some of your responses are pathetic and you're egos are way too big. You feel too supreme to think something so "frivolous" has affected your lifestyle. You're in denial, ashamed of dependencies and it's embarrassingly obvious.

For the first time since early humans walked the earth, millions of years in the making, we're finally connected instantaneously through the product of our great minds. You are so lucky to be living in these times, but you've barely an ounce of care.

I realized how helpless we would be without electricity when the power grid went out for nearly a week a few years back.

With that being said, I can live without the internet, but I'll be massively PISSED OFF if our cloaked masters decide to shut 'er down. I'd imagine alot of others will be as well, and rightfully so. It is NOT their internet to shut down, that is where I draw the line.

KEEP YOUR GREEDY POWER HUNGRY HANDS OFF MY INTERNET. THANKS.
