What would YOU do if the Internet Shut Down?

With all the talk of SOPA and ACTA and the FBI arrests of Megaupload and similar arrests against Pirate Bay it seems that we are getting closer everyday to an internet shut down

We have all seen the SOPA test banner that scared the crap out of many people at ATS when they logged on and missed reading "This is a test" fine print

We have all heard the threats from Anonymous that they will hack sites...

Then last night we saw another 'test' ATS password reset....

eerrmmm it WAS a test right?

Well looking at the comments in the board thread...

Login Password reset?
www.abovetopsecret.com...

... it is obvious that most of you here would never last a week of internet shut down

can we say PANIC?

So imagine what you would do with your lives if the internet REALLY shut down and sites like ATS were gone for ever...

like the members of Open Minds forum woke up to one day

lucianarchy.proboards.com...

So what would YOU do if you woke up tomorrow and the internet was......

GONE

Interesting question zorgon. I would probably try to understand the stars more as far as mapping them current compared to past and try to get my navigaiton skills up too. It would be a massive lack of data and entertainment for many, but I think most would be able to manage after a few days as they still have cellphones and television and radios to interact with.

What would YOU do if the Internet Shut Down?

I'd Google what to do.
Or ask my Facebook friends what to do.
Or see what Twitter had to say.

Seriously?

I'd read a book.

Well..
I guess I would need to set up a Dial-up BBS again.
Like in the old times...

Or try to get people to start meshing up our own internet?
Is there anyone who have already started?

I would get on dial up and local BBS boards. I'm sure that population would spike right back up .

After connecting to a BBS system via dial up , find a way to get on IRC , where im sure the world will come together and find out a solution.

Then i would sit back relax and wait untill Internet version 2.0 comes out , courtesy of our hackers lol

If not that , then just wait untill a bypass comes out to get back on the regular internet , proxy's or w/e.

It doesn't matter if they shut it down , it will only be a slight delay untill its hacked and people are back on !

I'll make my own internet with the locals , using our wireless routers as adhoc access points connecting everyone lol

So many ways. Its not the end of the world , just a delay :p

Well........ need to get that old land line back again and then get the bbs software out again. Ran a BBS in the 70/80's and it worked. Could do that way again. Just found a UR Courier 144 and a 56k both external. That old 486 would make a great server again. I grew up on USENET, not the Internet. Kind of like Dos VS Windows to me. A lot of bloat. Just depends on what you want from it. We had files, public forum, some private mail and online games behind the 'doors'.

Go to an actual adult store

J/k though I do think cheating would be on the rise more than it already is.

I will find alternative ways to get my information, or become a refugee to one of the countries that fight this garbage.

What would YOU do if the Internet Shut Down?

I think the question is what any of us COULD do if the internet was turned off... and the answer is, not much.

The thing about the web is a lot like freedom itself; you have to have it to support and keep it. If you don't have access to the internet... or better said, if there was no internet to gain access to, there would be nothing you could do to either save or retrieve it. Your window to the world is not just shut... it is gone. Nothing but a solid wall where that window used to be.

Also, if it ever happens, we would likely lose cell phone/texting as well because one depends on the same basic mechanism as the other.

This is one reason I have often said that if there was a false flag CME, the blackout switch could be thrown on everything from the web, to cell phones to basic electrical service. Once the eyes, ears and speaking voices of the world have been blinded, deafened and silenced... we would have no means to meet to discuss world events, to coordinate response or to even discuss what might be behind it all.

Most people miss this point. They can't even conceive of the dark abyss we could be tossed into if the power elite ever decided to push the button that took away all of these things. Very few can imagine how the power grid is so easily manipulated or the telephone lines... or the internet.

One well-coordinated event could convince the mass of the planet's population that either a natural or man-made disaster had taken all of this away... and there would be no avenue left to us to use to question or challenge the outcome. We would be left in a darkness we have not known or understood since the end of the 19th century.

EDIT: I hate being at the bottom of a thread page...
