Think about global politics for a second.
I'll wait...

I see this on a daily basis here at ATS. Take your favorite geopolitical arena and any given relevant recent headline. Which side are you on? Do you have a side? Do you favor one side over the other? Could you separate yourself from your preconceptions enough to discuss the situation in a fair, balanced and unbiased manner? Could you be wrong? Can you concede certain facts even when and if they fly in the face or your perceived Paradigm? Do I make assumptions about other posters?

Those are some questions I ask myself before I jump into a topic.
[I'm not always successful]

Are you?

I think ATS trys to take preconceieved notions that are instilled by the MSM and deconstruct them to begin with. You may be referring to the dogmatic mode of thinking that leads to automatic black and white responses....

I'm willing to consider things with an open mind, I think that's the purpose of these forums. It takes alot of time to create a well thought out thread, as well as to read that thread and contemplate it constructively.

By the way nice pic, Slayer (no more knight?). So uh, what you doin' tomorrow night?

That's usually my response to topics/debates I see happening that I think will go down that path. I avoid them I suppose for several reasons. One Why bother getting upset? And Two, will it matter?

More and More these days I find myself avoiding certain forums unless it's something I feel really passionate about

That's a good point and I've seen that as well. I've even been sent message telling me that I was misquoted due to the lack of understanding in the meaning and intent of what I've written.

But, I doubt that's as big of an issue as somebody digging in their heels

Wouldn't that be an example of ones own Paradigm?

Could you be wrong or not in command of all the facts? [Even though you believe you are] I'm not saying you are wrong just asking if you ever stop to think that you may be wrong on some beliefs/topics?

when im just free sense out of what i see existing, then even if i dont agree with what i read i wont react but relatively
the point is to understand that wrong is when u r a stand, it is very important to be absolutely right for urself but it is an objective right too when urself is free from all else existence realistically

arguments is not an issue on the contrary u surely know that communication life is always appreciated objectively, but the issue is what u described being all or nothing, while i answered that correctly to me by saying that one cant b but all or nothing, there cant b half one or multiple one when one is the constant being not its concept

Awesome thread,

I must say that sometimes i am guilty of it, but usually i don't reply to threads that i have no say in, and usually start reading on the topic of some kind.

This makes me worry about some of my posts,
Sometimes i lose my ability to stop myself from typing, i guess its emotional, seems like i vents a little bit of the frustration. Now i hope im not too one sided, I try not to take any sides really, there are some issues that really get me going,
I don't think i've ever had to ragequit. Sometimes i go completely off topic too (which is highly embarrassing after the fact).

I like to think myself a critical thinker,
Sometimes too critical, Sometime too much thinking goes on and i have to step back from it all and relax. Get my mind off it all for a little bit. There's a lot going on these days,

YES
And it is important for us, myself included, to consider these things while posting, imo. The only thing that irks me is when someone uses broad strokes or glittering generalizations, and then name calling or labeling. The whole "it's all the left or right's fault" gets old. Many are here to learn and move forward constructively, seeking solutions instead of residing in blame and finger pointing, and these broad stroke tactics draw people of course and into a puddle of contempt.
So thanks for the thread and may we all benefit from it. All or nothing? For me it's somewhere in the middle.

I can't help but to think that those who fall back on the claim/accusation of "You're just falling for the left/right paradigm" are they themselves just simply disenfranchised with the modern world. [I'm not saying all but most IMO]

There are a few of my posts [Booze related] which I wish would die someplace quietly and obscurely in Cyberspace

That's in way why I like ATS. Plenty of varying forums to take a break in from the usual Intense forums. I like to write in the Ancient and Lost civilizations forum.

That's one of my escapes.

Most definitely, the middle age war-justifiers on this site have somehow become recognizable respected figures. The worst part of their ignorance is that they truly believe they have the full picture and that they are informed. They fight with their ignorance so strongly because they cannot imagine an alternative.

Alright here we go.

I don't have a problem with being wrong or admiting it. Because I'm use to it. Once I learned never to punch a key in anger? It really didn't even matter anymore. Sometimes people don't take sides. They are the side.
Right and wrong are pretty vague in a great many cases.

Hope you're feeling better Slay.

everyday i pray to a nonexistant god that im wrong, that we refuse to deny ignorance. i can barely stomache the emotions.

If my concieved paradigm is correct and god does indeed die in the hearts and minds of the world. Then all of those people who needed god will spite life.

ooh i think i know the reason. its because we type what we think, instead of typing what we say.
It's a bit hard to think before we think, but we can think and then rethink.

I know it sounds silly, and some of my posts are a bit dizzy and ditzy but that's just who i am, so ill try to rethink before i post from now on, though its really hard, i always forget what im going to say, so its tricky to rethink something when ive forgotten what it is.

oops i think i forgot to rethink before i wrote this post.

I can honestly say ATS has made me a better person, and it was only by chance which I even found this website.

I've finally found a group of people who share many of the strange and weird interests which I have, but who can critique them intelligently and in turn take them to levels which I haven't even considered.

A few years ago in my early 20's I used to absolutely love trolling. And I don't mean petty stuff, but with a few well thought out posts I could slowly but surely sow the seeds of discord through any topic I cared to take an interest in. And I think this was an unconsious reaction to the pettyness and generall lack of depth which most forums display.

The calibre of people here motivates me to want to be a better person (having to young kids now also works wonders on ones maturity levels
) And if nothing else, I've definitely learnt to type a lot faster.

I do have a few patience issues with seemingly stupid posts. But if I can hold my tounge (or keyboard....?) it often turns out that either myself or the other poster somehow just misunderstood each other and in turn we both walk away knowing a little more.

It can be hard though cos I really used to enjoy a bit of a verbal showdown with someone who disagreed with me, though I've also noticed though that you look a lot less stupid if you've remained civil with a guy who's just proved you wrong

Great thread Slayer

I end up being attacked by both sides.

2. There is only one truth to any given question, what one may assume to be the truth may not in fact be so; in such a situation it is good to adjust yourself accordingly.

Normally there is name calling and false unsubstantiated accusations applied. I normally take my leave before I respond with one of those "Shot Gun Responses" [Again I'm not always successful]

3. Speak unto others as I would have them speak unto me.

Agree and I try but sometimes I don't

Of course that and read the OP

Now why in the hell would one want to do that?

Only from two sides? LOL

I always enjoy your posts as you make me think.

I like your new Avatar!

SnF for thought provoking thread. Thank you!

May I be placed on your U2U list of people you notify regarding your new important thread you are about to reveal to ATS?

For me its is sometimes hard to be objective when reading a post as we all have our pet peeves and ideals. Gut reaction is a human trait! The reason I come to ATS is for information. Since I am an American outside of America the need for information is great! That is to hear the news and enjoy many sides of the argument that our members come up with. What I find disappointing however is so many of our members are willing to attack the poster than to debate the idea which the poster tried to bring up. These attacks come in "you cannot spell!" to "Your Grammer shows your educational skills." The results are that post was derailed and the defense and counter attack begins. Many ATS posters here go for the gut and defense rather than to think outside the box and try and look at all ramifications of the information on offer. I am seeking the truth and to do that one must read everyones point of view and weigh up the evidence which is why it is so important that people back up their opinions with links that support their idea is wider than their imagination.

BTW the warrior in me loves your old avatar the human side of me like your new one as you (from a straight man) are a good looking man. You are definitely a Thinker and always look forward to what you have to say...

Pls put me on your U2U postings...
