I doubt these natives are trying to prevent them from bulldozing the forest. The impression I got from the article was that they probably have not seen white man before. I was suggesting that there was no need to intimidate the natives into leaving in the first place.

When I was younger and this is 20 odd years ago I had um..mmm a "Friend" who organised an "Legal" shoplifting of Mahagony wood from Stores in the UK.

WE..mmm He sorry went to some Furniture shops (main Outlets in the UK) in a large number to overwhelm the security, They all walked out of the stores carrying wood we knew to be Mahagony (they also knew the wood was illegal and stolen from native lands as it had been tracked from South America Brazil by "friends" there" we knew the ships and where it came to port here to be processed.

They had actual video documentation, and marks on the wood of this being Mahagony logged illegally in the Protected part of the Amazon.

I call Mahagony "Blood Wood" as there is the blood of the Indians on it and its color.

So a bit like Occupy these stores around the UK one day at a precise time had 20 odd "Hippies" walk into them and "liberate this wood. They then stood outside the Store with the evidence that this was illegal wood, people had died to get it "Indians" it broke 3 conventions and the company knew the supply came from there as we informed them by legal letter 1 year before hand of proof of one of their suppliers doing this.

They then "Phoned" the police to report theft and to ask for the repatriasation of the wood back to its rightful owners of payment and compensation for it.

Obviously the stores had done the same about "shoplifters"

It was a very interesting afternoon as the donut boys arrived to arrest us and them.

We had "legal observers" solicitors with us who were doing this for free.

The police did not know what to do.

After though the stores having maybe 1- 2 shoppers all day, as people coming to buy stuff were disgusted by the photos, videos, and audio tapes of Amazonian Indians explaining what really happens, to get this wood and just went back to their cars and drove off, some of the mothers had tears in their eyes as some of the footage of the affects of this illegal logging has on the environment and children, and Indian Warriors standing up against the JCBs tying themselves to trees were killed in large numbers, leaving Orpahns for the last generetions of an already threatened society. Many villages have simply overnight "dissapeared" though as there is no records of them and soo remote it never gets press.

So then around 3pm as it was obvious this company, was going to make NO MONEY at all that day across the UK indeed a loss when customers saw the truth Riot Vans and lots of police swooped on them all.

Not one arrest was made within the company involved. Though evidence of illegal trading, breaking charters, proof this was happening, supporting genocide of an nation was in the eyes of the Law not worth pursuing, though about 200 people who were just trying to tell the truth, and give back stolen goods to the rightfull owners all were arrested and charged with resisting arrest, theft, public order offences.

Most of their homes were raided to.

Nothing Changes.

Money is King over life and truth.

I have a couple of friends from that time who are actually in Brazil now stopping this I hear from them maybe once a year if lucky, it still goes on and their lives are at risk. They are British and I think very brave.

A lot of people have been murdered in the Amazon in recent years - some quite high profile - because they object to, or in other ways stand in the way of, logging. It's like the old wild west.

To these people, killing a young child would be nothing.

This reminds me of the film Avatar. When we stop consuming resources like locusts, then perhaps we might actually have a piece of the beautiful planet left.

I don't want to be a "downer" and add more bad news or seem to try to put this story to the side as I think it is important for more people to hear about this horrible tragedy, but it isn't just loggers who do things like this. Oil companies have their share of blood on their hands and people don't pay any more attention to it than they do the story of the loggers.

It seems that people just can't handle this truth and push it out of their minds, pretend it doesn't happen as they buy their oil products and wood products which is "stolen" along with the life of those poorest who may be in the way of the corporations doing what they want, making profit.

This world has become corrupted by greedy corporations. Money over life seems to be the corporate mantra. Greed, is truly destroying humanity and until we stop it things will most likely just get worse.

Oh dont get me going on that one to but a very important thing.

Chevron have let millions and millions of tons of toxic waste to go into all the south american rainforests, the peoples land they pollute is soo toxic terrible health issues are faced by the natives, they were ordered in court to clean up and Pay and refuse point blank.

Oil waste just drains into the Amazon River.

No cleaning just straight into the most important river probably on earth.

Makes me sick. They don't deserve to be included in the human race. Things like this makes me wish the world would just end right now just explode into oblivion and there would be no more suffering.

This is the story of our civilization.

Lives are sacrificed all the time for profit. Humans lives mean nothing when it comes to the almighty dollar.

Think about all the radioactive releases from power plants, think about all the nukes detonated on land and in the atmosphere, think about the sludge and poison they release into the rivers, lakes and oceans, think about the PCB's they release into the air when people live downwind from their building.

They kill us all the time, and yes burning maybe a bad way to die, at least it's quick. Cancer or poisoning including nuclear is a slow and painful death. You die from the inside out.

They create dieases and release them on the public, think the H1N1 hybrid Spanish flu.

We should be thin enraged every day, every second of the day. This is no different whatsoever to what they do to us.

Why should this persons life be any more important than yours or your children's, or your families?

Spot on post amazed. The people who did this are simply evil but the people behind them are even worse.

I'm minded of King Solomon's words about "Man's Inhumanity to Man"

The most common defense against loggers is spiking random trees. Their chain saws will hit the spike derailing the chain and cause serious lacerations or perhaps death to the logger. Im not implying anything here just sharing a tidbit of info.

Yeah, actually they have a ton of oil.. they are completely self sufficient and are net exporters (and just discovered a massive new field off their coast). They also have nukes. and the 7th largest economy in the World.

Ultimately though the fault comes down to those countries that import wood from places like Brazil. Which would be the USA and most every major European economy. You won't see us denying imports just because the loggers rape the land and burn natives alive .. you'd upset the profit Gods.
