Thanks for the morning image!

I remember a documentary (now Im tempted to look for it), about rats in NYC. There are many of this size and bigger by Chinatown/Lower Manhatten. They went by 42nd street, theres a spot where the homeless are able to go underground into the tunnels, so the documentary crew went in and it was just horrible!

I also remember a few years back, in Australia, they have found rat fossils that were as big as compact sized cars! Imagine having that for a neighbor!!!

Rats are disgusting creatures. Where I work they get as big as cats too, out back where the cattle feed is.

Looks a whole lot like a river rat I saw in San Antonio. I worked downtown and went to get supplies out of the closet. He was sitting on shelf on his hind legs. I just quietly closed the door and left. The supplies were not all that necessary after all.

ahahahahaha! thank you for the morning laugh! i imagined your face
lol!

It's a deceiving photo, the rat is being held towards the camera making it appear much larger than it actually is. If it's resting on a shovel then the shovel is probably around 12" across. The rat's body is about the length of the shovel, so it's about 12" not including the tail. That's pretty darned big to be sure and is probably why they took a picture of it to begin with, but it's not the 2 foot long super rat people seem to be implying.

This is similar to the giant spider photo that was circulating years ago, in fact the critter was about the size of a child's hand, but because it was held right in front of the camera it made it appear huge.

I thought that those who didn't have it and may want to try substituting rat for squirrel in a:

Brunswick Stew (squirrel) Recipe

All they have to do now is transport the giant pythons to new york to kill the giant rats. Problem solved! I'm sure new yorkers won't mind giant snakes as much as giant rats right?

Could very well be a bandicoot. IDK. I googled Norway rat and wharf rat, as I did corner a huge rat 20 years ago in my garden shed, larger than any cat I'd ever seen. When animal control came to my home, they told me it was a Norway rat. They were a huge problem in San Fran.....So to finish my post, it was a photo, nearest to the size of the one in my garden shed, that I found and posted.

Well, if the locker was only a foot, the rat can't have been that big

That second clip you posted reminds me of a documentary I once saw on a parasite that attackes rats and make them attracted to cats, well accordind to a Stanford University study. But those are some freaky lookin' rats. We should make pets ot of them. I'm sure they'll sell. I'll call mine Ben.

The animal in the pic you posted can not be a Norway Rat, at least not a normal one.

Looking at its ears, they are furry. Norway Rats have naked or nearly naked ears. It does have a bare tail that is fairly long. I still haven't figured out what species it is. Bandicoots mostly have furry tails.
