Just because their calender ends in 2012 does not mean the end of the World. For how long can you keep writing calenders ? The Mayans probably got tired of writing calenders, or maybe their last calender writer died while he was writing the 21st december 2012, or maybe that was the end of their race, so they couldnt write more calenders. I mean what do you expect, a calender until the year 900000000000000 A.D ? There has to be a limit. Although I have to admit its starnge that they would finish their calender on a odd date like the 21st.

They did not use our system to make their calendar. It was not December 21, 2012 to them. That is our calendar. They had a far more logical and complex set of calendars, that were far more precisely attuned to celestial events. It is the day of the winter solstice, though, the longest night of the year, and therefore the dawning day is the start of the days getting longer.... a very logical date to make important. It is Baktun 13.0.0.0.0. in their calendar, and the first day of the fifth age, not the last day of this age, as is commonly believed, imho.

If you read into it you'll notice that on December 21st 2012 the Sun rises through a gap in the milky way from earth's point of view. It is considered the 'rebirth of the sun'.

That's it.

Last year in spanish class we watched a video about the myans and it talked about how special there calander was and what not...but the end was all dramatic and stuff about how the myans or their calander claims the world will end in 2012...

I remember reading somewhere in the Mayan Prophesies book by Maurice Cotterell that the 'end of our world' (however you want to look at it) is much needed because Earth needs to regenerate itself. It also mentioned many similarities with what is happening now due to sun spots and the earth's polar shifting, ie: earthquakes, tornados, floods, droughts. It even said that solar spots cause things like infertility and violence and had a direct effect on the moods of people.

I know we are by nature a violent and ignorant race who love to wage war and terror on one another, but the news lately has given me an eerie spine-tingling feeling that this is somehow different than the usual norm, even for humans.

I have to ask this question then - don't we need regeneration? I don't think it is even possible to say that we can all change and stop harming the environment and one another simply because we have become spooked that this might be the end? We might change our ways for a while, but then we would start taking things for granted and creating havoc all over again.

When we are discussing nukes every single day without batting an eyelash, we have to realise that something has gone terribly, seriously wrong with the world.

I mean - we don't own this planet do we? Weren't we just leasing it? Now look around and see how much serious damage we've done.

And how about certain countries thinking they are allowed to make the rules and cause as much death and destruction because they can - be it China, the US or Russia or anyone else stupid enough to do it first. What do you think will happen not only to the people who die, but those that survive?

Mayan Prophesies was 'distubing' although I read it a few years ago and haven't revisisted because at the time (before 1999) it still seemed like eons away. What was interesting was how they believed we are the fifth world and the other worlds before us were destroyed by fire and another one by a massive flood (I can't remember the others). Each because the Earth had had enough and it was time to regenerate.

Atlantis? Bibilical flood? Anyway - something to ponder. I would like to think that anyone who survives the cataclysmic end will rethink their ways and be forced to change by having to start all over again from scratch.

It is really logical if you look at it - Earth is dying and it needs some rest from what we have done (are doing to it).

Final point - wouldn't it be ironic if the people who survive then try to chronicle and pass their legends and stories down to new people so they don't make the same mistakes and it is recorded as a lovely colourful 'myth' that no one believes or ever listens to? It is a little like when your parents used to say not to do something based on their experience, but you did it anyway because that's what we are like. We don't learn until we get burned.

I've not been a member long and this is the first time I've felt the need to post anything ... so please bear with me. I have just read the first 7 pages(everything was being repeated by then) and the last 3 ( to see if anything had changed) and it seems to me the wrong question is being focused on.... is the exact date being accurate truly important ... the question should be, imho (which is ever evolving but ultimately the only one that matters to me) ... do we believe all these cultures that have made these "predictions"?

I am no scholar but I am curious ... and I do seem to collect and assimilate a lot of trivial information. From what I've read (on ATS and elsewhere), seen, heard and just somehow know, the answer that makes the most sense to me is ... yes, the world as we know it will end and it will probably be soon. (2012? 2013,2010,2008 ???) Is there anything we can do to stop it ... probably not. We have used and abused this planet, the universe and each other to such an extent that drastic change is inevitable.

Didn't someone waaaaay back at the beginning of this thread say that the Mayan's said that our technologies would be our downfall or something to that extent? It makes sense to me that since technology is being blamed for the changes in the atmosphere and changes on/in the earth itself (volacanic eruptions, plate shifts, etc.) this just may be accurate. The possibility that some or all of these occurances have caused a slight shift in the axis of the earth has been reported (true or not ??? I don't know) but if it IS true, isn't it reasonable that several major events like this happening more or less simultaneously would cause a drastic shift? If this happens and the equator ends up in .... say Canada .... the ice melt alone would change the world as we know it. Would this wipe out the entire human race ... I doubt it. Would only the "good" or spiritually enlightened survive ... probably not. Possibly I'm an optomist but I just can't bring myself to believe that any god, goddess, creator or higher power would wipe out a complete race just because we have proven we are such d---shts's. Imo, they would just sit back ... and watch to see if we've learned anything.

Now that I've gotten to the end I don't know why I needed to post this ... either to vent or for someone else to read ... either way it's only MHO

2012 is NOT 'the end' of the Mayan Calandar, it is the beginning of a new cycle. The Mayans were phenomenal astrologers, but (I'm sorry to p*ss on your fire guys) they were not ancient prophets. Yes they could predict the weather to a certain extent, but that was only due to the fact that the weather was much more predictable back then as they obviously had no technology that influenced it.

The Milky Way has a gap in it (The Galactic Equator/Dark Rift), don't know why, it just does. This gap in considered by the Mayans to be a 'birthing canal' for the Sun (Our Father), hence whenever the Sun passes through it (roughly every 26,000 years) It is believed by the Mayans that at sunrise on December 21, 2012 (in our calendar), the Sun - our Father - rises to conjoin the center of the Sacred Tree, the World Tree, the Tree of Life (In other words the Sacred Tree is the 'cosmic cross' created when the path of the Sun - The Ecliptic - conjoins with the intersecting milky way). This event is also the dawning of a new age of the sun, according to the Mayans (Hence the 'new age' prophecies).

Funny that I saw this because I was recently reading this Pole shift. So far, there's no proof to back up this claim.

(sorry if someone already posted this but I was too lazy to look through 14 pages)

Anyone aware of any ley line/2012 connection? (ex. what would the night sky look like from Stone Henge as this 5th age comes into being / theorised magnetic field levels at ley line nodes / etc...) There are programs out there that'd tell me that, but its not my expetise.

Remus - Did a little research online and found this -

'The Mayans believed that the world had been destroyed four times before. First by water, the second by wind and the third by fire and earth changes. They believed that at the end of each age there is a time of chaos, and then a period of rebuilding as a new age begins. However, they believed that in 2012 , it would be the fifth and final age of man. In other words, our days are numbered.'

Regardless if I believe whether or not the world will end exactly on Dec 12 2012 ( I don't by the way) - this is what the Maya believed. Not as you said that it was simply the end of the calendar. They also believed it was the end of the Sun. Hard to have a world with no sun.

In my post I was just relating that I remembered what Cotterell's Prophesy book said about destruction and rebuilding and 2012. I am hoping, as I am sure many others are, that there isn't a final end to humanity - as much as I sometimes think we deserve it, it would be nice if we didn't all get destroyed either by our own hand or at the hands of a pissed off mother nature.

One of the reasons we are still quoting the Maya is that they were amazing astronomers and mathematicians and their calendar was very accurate. You don't know what they are like as fore-tellers of the future, especially as telling us what was going to happen by giving us signs wasn't really their style- what they were trying to say (I think) is that regeneration is a natural process and sometimes (as it is now) badly needed. They did a great job of creating myth and artwork to explain the sun's rotation and the power this had in their lives. I mean talk about your sun worship!

As far as the accuracy of their dating, we will have to wait until 2012 to find out

Until then I'm going to continue to enjoy life, to read, to explore, to keep an open mind and to remember to recycle.

I have a question.

Why did they think the world just ends? What happens to it, where does it go? Or does it recycle?
Does it cease to exist? Or just the life on it.

I'd be interesting to know where they came across this thinking. Anyone have any links.

I also heard it was supposed to end on May 4, 2004-I forget where I heard it though.

Kind'a makes you wonder what's sooo wrong with a bunch of Jews thinking the world is only 5765 old...eh?

maybe they just calculated that haley's comet would hit earth on that exact day on that exact year...or maybe they just didn't want to finish the calender and said...".....I think we'll make it end....HERE..." who knows.

okey.. im new here, and i singed up because i have a little story to tell you about whats going to happen ( according to the akashik records on the astral plane),, it is not for sure.. I am not yet very aware in the astral plane.. but ill tell you my story

in 2012 the world is not going to end...nothing '' bad '' happens

but, the people will begin to see and become aware of the things around them, they will see the truth and meaning of the live the have, everyone will achieve enlightenment, or will be able to travel to the higher levels

now we live on the mental plane, some people..so do I - can go to the astral plane, on the astral plane lies tons and tons of information of the future and past.

but its really to much to tell you of whats its al about, i would be sitting at my desk for 5 days writing this

for all the possibilitys and the meaning of the astral plane just search the web... you''ll find some helpfull stuff

but that is probably what the mayans mean.. in 2012 there will be a new beginning, the world will become aware.

for the people who dont know anything of the astral plane and the akashik records..this is al hard to understand i think.. but just search the web on : astral projection/plane and the akashik records. There you will find more clues , but the true story you must find on the astral plane ,so you'll have to go there,, and its not really easy to achieve

greets,,

( if im not clear enough... please let me know )

You could tell us about all this with just 5 days of writing? Wow

My needs are simple, you can start by u2uing me the Ohio super lottery numbers for Saturday, August 27, 2005. Or if that's out of your scope, how about that you give us 15 minutes worth of writing just touching on the high points of the future.

Nostradamus calculated the movement of the planets and said 2012 is the last of earth. I heard somewhere that a huge solar flare or sun engulfs us before it burns out. Bible codes say some things too, check it out. Says yellowstone erups in 2009 and 1/2 wourld population perishes.

about the 5 days of writing,,

well if i would tell you all, it would REALLY take me a long time ..no joke

but i can tell you things about the astral plane...

the astral plane is a dimension that co-exists with our mental plane,

everything that is in the mental world (where you are now) is also found in the astral plane, the only diffirence is that the boundries of Gravity and time ar not present in the astral,

the astral plane exists with a meaning, a meaning to learn us....
You can visit a variaty of holy oracles and library's there to gain knowledge, you can fly to the pyramids of egypt for an instance...ALMOST everything is possible... you can fly, use magick, you can even have sex in the astral.
everything you can do in your dreams...you can do there.

you can even fly to the moon.

and about the Akashik records.

the akashik reacords is a library thats store's time, like you are saving your game data in a game.

you can see what happend 500 years ago,, but the further you look the more faint it wil get, and you wil have to be very ''aware'' to see very far

2012 is just a faint picture for me,, but a certain oracle has told us that it wil be a new beginning...

i can not see very far in the future or past at the akashik records...because i am not yet aware enough.

but it al comes down to: The astral plane is there to learn from, when you are on the astral plane some strange events occure..and later when you return to the mental world you might discover that it happend to teach you something.

its a wonderful place, the sky can be purple if you wish...the moon and sun can be up at the same time if you wish.

Everything that is on the mental plane , exists on the astral plane, also the people on the mental... can be seen on the astral. so if im on the astral plane, i can see what my friend is doing on the mental plane(where were are now), and he can not see us.

if you want more info, just ring the bell

Things as lotery numbers or any kind of that information cant be found on the astral, hard to explain why... but ill try

lotery thins an winning money are non essentail things in things in the astral... if you are in the astral every one is the same....if you have alot of money , so be it...it isnt important... it has nothing to do with the meaning of live and achieving enlightment,

you wil only find the essentail and sacred information on the astral, wich is quiet alot.

if i could find some lottery numbers on the astral i would be a damn millionaire right now
... then we would have the explanation why donald trump is so rich
