UK Has Fattest Women in Europe

news.sky.com

British women are the most overweight in Europe, according to figures released by the European Commission.

Nearly a quarter of women in the UK, some 23.9%, were obese in 2008/9, the data revealed.
British men were not far behind on 22.1% and were the second most overweight, second only to Malta.
Separate figures showed that around a third, 32%, of English children aged 11 to 15 are overweight or obese.

When this came on sky news this morning i had to have a 2nd look at the TV. There are alot of overweight women here in the UK but i didnt think it was national news worthy.

Is 23% of a population bad?

Then again only 2 women go to my local gym. I didnt think of that as a problem until right now.

I think alot of women are having a New Years Resolution this year.

SHUTUP EUROPEANS! This is not a 'how fat is a typical American woman' thread damn't!
Also, stop complaining about your percentage UK folk! Come to America, then complain. I can't even go to the grocery store without contorting my body to get around someone who's bottom looks like two hay bales stuffed in denim.

Just looked it up and got 33.8% obese for women in the US from 2007-2008. I guarantee that number is higher now. I don't hate fat people, I just wish they would get healthy.

No they're not. Most western women are of average build.

en.wikipedia.org...

In mathematics, an average, or central tendency[1] of a data set is a measure of the "middle" value of the data set. Average is one form of central tendency. Not all central tendencies should be considered definitions of average.

I mean I could say all African women are stick thin, or all Japanese women are petite or all American women are big. This is not true.

In all societies and cultures there are common traits and I think the UK has a moderate junk food society, but to say all western women are fat pigs is rather insulting.

This would be the equivalent of saying all people from wherever the hell you are from are as idiotic as yourself.

Rubbish, anyone ever been to Italy...

In the link it shows the stats for Rumanian women, you'd find more meat on a butchers pencil.

Check out your own BFI on-line you may find that you are also classed as obese.

and in the U.S. the kids seem to be even worse-I dont know the exact percentage but I know when I put my 4'10 88 pound sixteen year daughter on her bus she is dwarfed by the size of some of these girls and I shudder to think of what would happen if one fell on her. This is the first generation of kids that have a lower life expectancy than their parents its sad.

I saw a fat bird down the pub, her T-shirt said - Watch out, I'm a maneater!

I went up to her and said "Excuse me love, about your T-shirt slogan."

She stopped me and angrily said "Oh let me guess, you want to know how many men I've eaten?!
Well I can't help my size you know!"

I said "Actually no, I wasn't going to say that at all."

She looked happier and smiled as she said "Oh yes, what did you want to say then?."

"That's not how you spell Manatee."

Haha! You beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing! For some reason I feel like I've heard this one before but I laughed as if it was my first.

Sad to see obesity is becoming as prevalent in the U.K. as it is here in the U.S. I avoid fast food places as much as I can. It's a shame that sometimes you're on the move and you need something to eat and can't find a healthy place to eat for miles. And when you do find it, they're usually expensive.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a correlation there or a correlation with the levels of poverty, since the poorest generally have easy access to the worst food.

I have been noticing people (and especially women) gaining pounds in my neck of the woods since the arrival of fast food places that undercut everyone else and swamp the place with glitzy marketing.

Lets not forget besides the MSG and GMO products we consume, we have been conditioned to be lazy and arrogant. If third would countries can get at least 1/4 of the food fat people eat then I think that would solve a lot of problems as far as losing weight and fighting starvation.

As an overweight male currently "getting healthy", it's far from easy. Sure, you can drop the weight fast but it doesn't seem that easy to keep it off.

Still,I think you'd be better off worrying more about yourself.

Do you really believe that media-fed nonsense? There's no way to know how long these kids are going to live. This is how "they" want to control the population through such information.

99 percent of all stats are bullcrap. Seriously though, that's basically one in four women, it's not right, if I go to my town centre there's no way one in four women are fat. Aside from that, a lot of men like a bit of meat on their woman so even if the ratio was true (which it's not) what's wrong with a bit of variety?
