Changing the name, that's a nasty thing to do.

AminoSweet, good to know what it's called.

Great post, I would like to add the dangers of the fluoride levels of these soft drinks and possibly the effects of the polio vaccinations in combination with all that you have brought to surface. I have been comparing foods to charts showing levels of fluoride in canned foods, frozen vegetables etc. You have to use reverse osmosis to remove fluoride. I wish I had more info to offer, but please look into it for yourselves...it might save you or someone you care for serious illness.

I recently came across stevia - a herb that's 300 x sweeter than sucrose & 150 x sweeter than sugar, with no nasty side effects. I've not tried to grow it yet, but intend to as soon as I get the opportunity to sort out my jungle of a garden.

At the local market I shop at, in the coffee and sugar aisle, they sell straight up Aspartame for a sweetener. No disguising the name, just the product in it's purest form right in your face.

I get so pissed every time I'm in that aisle that I purposely shove that product back deep into the shelf it's on so no one can see it. That's the best I can do without completely yelling in the market about how they are selling cancer powder. They should consider themselves lucky that's all I'm doing.

But I dont understand, why dont you do more?
Complain!
Give the manager documentation about the product s/he's selling?
Or put leaflets out for consumers to read next to the aspartame?

Aunt Frieda is 85 years old, she has a big butt and struggles with her feet in pain all the time. I tell her it is where the heavy toxins go to but she has always thought it was gout, I told her to get a uric acid test which she did and it was normal so it is not gout, she still insists it is...

As for other effects she has severe ringing in the ears and spends a fortune on over the counter medicines for that.

Right on and I cant seem to argue with anything you have stated. One limiting factor is the cost in using natural medicines at this point and yet we watch with tears in our eyes as places like the rainforests are pushed down when science knows that everything we need to be healthy is being eradicated in the process.

silly beachbumfun
if only you'd read that yourself, you actually helped this thread.
Since when has your health organisation and the FDA been about helping people.
Helping them to stay sick, maybe.

I've got news for you guys. You think that name change is something? How about if you knew that artificial sweeteners are disguised as "natural flavour" in ingredient lists. Did you also know that congress allowed this to happen? How are we supposed to know which products it is in if it is not labelled? Regular non-diet products which traditionally used sugar now use a combination of sugar and artificial sweetener. We better start preparing our own food and not buy any more pre-packaged or pre-made food.

I only browsed the replies on this thread list so if it was already said than excuse my lack of reading the post in it's entirety.

the real irony is that artificial sweetners cause your body to expect nutrition and when none arrives your body goes into hunger mode which makes it harder to lose weight.

great doc on the popular video site called " sugar the bitter truth" its very technical/medical college student based and around one hour. anyway its fascinating and will cause most people to take a good look at all sweetners and you will probably stop using artificial sweetners completley.

i wish i could embed a video sadly its beyond my limited computing skills i really recomend watching very nonhollywood/technical but very worth watching.

For those looking for a good alternative, try Truvia -- made from the Stevia plant. No chemicals, all natural, and good tasting.

Stevia has been being used as a sweetener for years, and for the last few years, the makers fought with the FDA for approval, because, the FDA is in bed with Monsanto Corporation, and there was money to be lost.

10 years ago, the only way to get Stevia was on the net and the stevia extract was bitter tasting. Truvia came along and they were able to take the bitterness out and I was quite surprised to taste the difference.

Its good stuff...and has not been linked to any ill side effects.

I did some research after reading this and I founf that Aspartame's former name...Nutrasweet which I remember was ousted because it had some bad side effects. Just change the name and everything is OK, maybe TPTB noticed the drop in product sales that have aspartame listed and figured it was time to change the name again.

And we wonder why Dementia and Alzheimer disease is sky-rocketing in our age???

Because more and more people are living to extreme old ages. In centuries gone by, people just didn't live long enough to experience AD

I'm a nutrition major at a major university, and I asked one of my prof. about it and he said despite that bad name aspartame gets on the internet, it hasn't been proven that the negative effects listed in this thread are true.

HOWEVER, I'm still opened to the belief that we simply havne't gotten far enough to prove it yet. I'm still open to the belief it could be toxic.but as of right now I'm unconvinced.

Of course I don't know this, but I'm apt to believe that so many people in mainstream society in mainstream positions usually parrot this "there's nothing to suggest this is toxic" because that's the sphere they're in and that's what all the professionals around them are saying. You have to remember that a lot of these conclusions come from "the official word" that usually "puts the whole thing to rest" but is often just complete bull. Remember that completely valid studies and statistics get completely ignored if they're not done by the right people, or if they conflict with the status quo.
