Calm down. Anyone who drinks clean water will never have to read another idiot letter about "OMG LOOK WHAT THEY"RE DOING NOW. AH AH AHHH HELP US ALL"

If you drink sodas, you deserve all the junk side effects you get from consuming junk. Simple as that.

Read labels carefully and look up things you aren't sure of.

Yes sir. As you wish. Now smile.

For the record, GOOD Bourbon needs nothing but maybe ice. No soft drinks for me, ever.

Ahh, I dont eat anything with Aspartam for years now, not even because I was aware of it's toxicity, I wasn't, I actually thought 15 years ago that perhaps it may be healthier then normal sugar.
But the taste, ugh, I literally wanna puke if I sense Aspartame in drink ot food.
It's always amaze on music festivals that only drink being given away for free is usually some zero-sugar diet stuff. Never a bottled water
. Go figure.

I get that aspartame isn't good for you but what's the alternative so far? Sucralose and other sweeteners seem just as bad. So what's left? Drink nothing but water? That sounds rather boring...

And what are the side effects of sugar?

Yeast infection
Acne
Depression
Diabetes
Heart Attack and Stroke (from triglycerides)
Cancer

Everything gives you cancer... Living gives you cancer! Every single minute you live, tens of millions of cells in your body die! All the radiation around you, including the heat from your toaster to your cellphone will accelerate the rate a which these cell die and that is what an "increased risk" means.

Every single thing you eat increases your risk of cancer. So Again, with that in mind. What's the alternative?

Moderation!

I'm having a dinner party tonight so I did my daily 20 minutes of cardio, I did 20 minutes of weightlifting. I'll be doing work around the house all day. I had a low calorie breakfast which included whole wheat toasts with light Becel margarine, two egg whites, a multivitamin...

...with a glass of cool quencher. (which contains sucralose)

So tonight, I'll be able to enjoy a few glasses of wine, some beautiful fish with potatoes, veggies and bread while not having to worry if I'm going to die from a heart attack.

Eat reasonably... if someone has diabetes then they should be able to enjoy sweets as well but just as I am doing, they should so it in moderation.

TL;DR?
In excess, anything will kill you.

You and I, both! I push it to the back and put something in front of it. I would actually like to throw it in the garbage bin with the corn husks and hand-wipes, but I suppose that would be called property damage or theft.

In restaurants, I often draw little skull n' crossbones on the fake sugar packets.

I went to get yogurt for my husband..and I was reading the packages (now this is not the "Lite" yogurt..it was just regular Target "fancy" yogurt) and noticed almost all of their yogurts has aspartame. For the love of God, why would yogurt need aspartame is beyond me.

Usually I buy the organic and/or greek yogurt but I was trying to grab him something quick as we were on vacation. It really pays to read the packaging and know the ingredients.

For Christmas, I am just going to buy myself a glass yogurt maker.

Mannitol and erithritol are two simple sweet-tasting carbs that the body won't metabolise like common sucrose.

They were on our shelves a few years ago but have been mostly replaced by xylitol.

You can still obtain them in most countries from bodybuilder's suppliers.

I can't see any reason for this removal apart from the fact that TPTB want all explosive precursors removed from easy access.

British WWII hand grenades were made from nitrated corn flour!! Try banning that!

I have a great aunt who insists on using both aspartame and natural seasons... I try to convince her that both are so dangerous but she refuses to listen to me. She is of the old school that believes anything with natural in the ingredients means that it is safe.

Her biggest argument is that if all of those deadly ingredients is that if it did all the things people claim the FDA would not allow it!!! True story.

Ouch.

I am fully aware of the search function but sometimes we get such emotional charge over seeing something so sinister that we jump to create a thread with our own views.

OP I am so happy you created this thread as I missed all the other ones. It happens.

Aspartame makes me ill as well on contact. I haven't had sugar in years or any of the artificial sweeteners either, they give me heartburn. Also lost 30 pounds as well.

We have Donald Rumsfeld to thank for Aspartame being approved by the FDA. He was a lobbyist for Searle back circa 1978. The FDA chief back then did not want to approve it due to the brain cancer that expressed in rats. 50% of the subjects died. Not long after Ronald Raygun was elected the FDA chief that had rejected Aspartame was ousted and a new guy was put in who promptly approved Aspartame as a food additive. Rummy, a real American hero NOT.

Edit: Watch Rummy on Fog Snooze. He likes to make all of his weird pyramid hand gestures. What a creep.

Correct. And Rumsfeld financially backed Reagan's run for presidency. Coincidence? Is it hell!

I really don't get all this self-righteous chest thumping here. There are plenty of materials regarding tests done with Aspartame and other sweeteners. If you disagree with the test methodology, distrust the authorities or prefer to not use this stuff for any other reason, then don't. And spare others the brain-dead "OMG it's toxic!" routine.

Some people can be easily weaned off sugar, and some not. I know that I normally don't eat sweets or drink sodas. But when I'm thirsty for an occasional Coke, I like it Diet. IMHO still better than sugar.

Bottom line, studies have been done, and are still being done, and a literate person should be able to make their own choices. You don't into paroxysm of indignation when liquor stores are discussed, or cupcakes in your local pastry shop. Why do it here?

You are avoiding all the stuff but you are eating fish? Do you know for sure where it came from? With the ocean disasters we have here the past few years I won't touch fish bought from any store.

One thing I wish to add is that although aspartame has been found to be dangerous as the poster above mentions so is refined sugars. So what to do when most stores sell only products with one or the other poisons?

The only real answer if you are looking for a healthy alternative to the toxic affects of sugar or its substitutes is to incorporate things like honey and molasses to sooth your sweet tooth.

It is a rough go when we are all so busy and on the go yet want to keep our bodies free from excess calories.

I do that on diet soda 12 & 24 pack boxes, but thanks for the idea about doing that at restaurants. Let us be the pain in their asses we all should be about this stuff.

Is this or is this not a conspiracy site?

Some of like to read between the lines rather than read Monsanto's latest press release.

I am big on reading labels now. A month ago...I left the stores that I have previously shopped at. Now...I only shop at organic stores....and I still read the ingredients on any food I buy...so far it has been a good experience.

I live in Seattle and we have several organic stores here.
