Haven't seen anything odd on Facebook myself...I did however receive an email saying that since "I haven't been logged in a while there are several messages waiting to be read..." or something like that. Anyway, since I was currently logged into Facebook I didn't click the email. I thought, hmmmm that can't be legitimate. I am very glad I didn't click any links.

There are a lot of kids on Facebook and I hate to think that something like this is going around.

@ skewed I agree. Facebook and the like should be destroyed. However, It was not terribly creative to use pornography. I don't know much at all about hacking, but couldn't they just shut it down in a different way? without all the inappropriate nonsense?

It is a method of inscribing communications on someone’s face with a tattoo gun or hot iron.

Well, I don't care too much, porn doesn't upset me too much. I haven't had any on my Facebook, but maybe that's 'cause I don't ever click on links?

But I find it really distasteful that so many here make hostile comments about the users of Facebook.
I have my whole family in different parts of the world, and it is through Facebook we keep some knowledge of each other. That's how I find out when neices and nephews graduate, cousins have babies, uncles are going into brain surgery, aunts are retiring..... pictures to see how they have all grown and changed over the years.

Living without any family near me was very difficult and depressing for years before Facebook, and it has been an aid that way. Why so many wish that people like me "suffer" is incomprehensible to me and shocking!
I don't think porn is going to make anyone suffer- but that desire is shocking. What the heck does my looking at Facebook to keep in touch with my family do to YOU?

And why is it that everyone I know enjoys this torture? I heard people get poked all the time while visiting these types of places... that's not at all invasive?

I'm a bit surprised with as much as I'm on the damn site, I haven't seen anything like this at all......

By the way....since when does Anonymous attack people with porn and gore

I mean...I know sometimes they'll deface some corporate page or what-not...but spamming with images of porn and gore? That doesn't really sound like them to me.

..though I could be wrong.

People enjoy this torture because their intent is to torture others not themselves. See they do it to communicate unimportant garbage to others because they think that their views on celebrities and what they ate for lunch is somehow important; others listen to this mearly to have their chance to speak.
Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of poking?

It's just like having a weekly newsletter you send out to all your family members so that they can keep up with what is happening in your life and those of your spouse and kids. It provides a feeling of keeping some link to extended family that may be far, and in touch with your roots.
It allowed an old friend I had lost touch with to find me and I was exstatic!
It allowed my son and his real father to find each other and begin a dialogue in a safe way while they were both not ready yet to meet.

I think I have had one person send me "pokes" from time to time, but I never felt a thing.

A fairly popular tactic for Anonymous on Facebook is to spam a page with child pornography, pictures of gore and sometimes porn; especially on suicide memorial pages. Uploading porn to YouTube and labeling the video something that a child would find interesting is also a popular past time. Of course that's a group within a group. This is why I always laugh when people say they support Anonymous. People who say that have no idea how broad that term really is.

Oh I see, so people enjoy the branding part of it... so then why all the complaints about porn? I mean it sounds like everyone on the site just wants to see every little thing happening in everyone's lives that they are associated with. In fact sex is a pretty common thing, so shouldn't people be not just accepting it, but demanding it? If you don't need to know what everyone is doing every second of the day, I suggest you talk to the person and let them disclose the information they think is necessary. If that means they say nothing, that is then all you should need to know.

Well then I hope that works out for you! It's just not for me. What is impressive and excites me is shared only with a small group of people--the people that I personally communicate with frequently. That is all I need

P.S and hopefully all they need too

I would be interested in seeing the strategy behind this attack. I would imagine the perpetrator would have to set up many accounts over a period of weeks. . . even months, allowing a botnet to get those accounts added to friend lists without triggering any alarms before using that botnet to upload and tag the explicit images.

Unless I am just not getting how the 'flood' is taking place. I also don't really see how it would affect people who only add people they know (or, at least, highly suspect they know) as friends.

If you're one of the types that accepts every friend request that crosses your account - then I could see how you got some rather vivid images flying through your wall.

As for Facebook - I really don't see it as a bad thing. People use it for things they shouldn't, or just go about it in very silly ways - but it can be a very useful way to stay in contact with friends and family. If the cyber-ninjas want to pay a visit to your home, that is more than possible without the assistance of Facebook.
