I have a few questions for all you Christians out there.

The books in the Bible were written by various prophets, apostles and disciples yet the Bible itself was put together by a council of men. Why do you follow a book that was put together by men who decided what to put in and what to leave out? The specific book I'm talking about is the book of Enoch. Not only did it used to be in the Bible, other books in the Bible make reference to it. The dead sea scrolls also make reference to it. Yet most of Christians have never even heard of this book. To those who have I'd like to know what you think about it.

I regularly hear Christians say "all life is sacred", the majority of the time referring to abortion. My question is if you really believe this then why do you follow a religion that led to the slaughter of millions of people? This religion was directly involved in the killing and slandering of Pagans and Paganism. The Inquisition was feared because they would torture or kill any opposition to the Church. So much so that the famous prophet Nostradamus had to word his quatrains extremely carefully or face severe repercussion.

My final question is probably the most important one. To be a 'true' Christian you have to follow every word in the Bible. Let's look at a few verses:

If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).
People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)
Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)
If anyone, even your own family suggests worshipping another God, kill them. (Deuteronomy 13:6-10)
If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)
Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

Why do you follow a religion that basically says "all life is sacred unless that life doesn't believe in your God"?

I might respond to a few comments on here but I won't troll this thread. I am looking for insight into your minds and beliefs. Not looking to start a fight or to put anyone down. Thanks in advance for doing the same.

MOD note: Wasn't sure where to place this thread. Feel free to move it to whichever section is most relevant.

This is exactly the reason I do not call myself a christian. I do believe that the Bible is a good book in the sense that it is a book of morals and should be read as such

Weren't we all told after this whole war on terror started that the Muslim Extremists were following their religion in killing all Infidels? sounds an awful lot like what you have just posted

S&F for you my friend

I was raised in a very religious household and my thoughts on this are that most people who claim to be christians are not even aware of the majority of what the bible actually says. Most people base what they know on the bible by what their reverend or pastor or priest quote from it when in church. just my two cents.

Which part sounds like I'm quoting anything?(Aside from the obvious quotes from the Bible)
By your logic... does that mean that what we believe right now will be wrong in the future?

Perhaps not taking things so literally would be a good place to start.

There are many different types of Christians. Most have some beliefs that the others think are .. false.

There are many different ways to interpret the Bible.

The translations made of the original texts are often debated.

Consensus between religious sects, is rare.

etc.

The point is this...People of like minds seek out and consort with other people of like minds...like a golf country club...Everyone has a set or group of people with whom they would seek to interact with on a regular basis...It does not mean there would be no day-to-day meeting with other groups, but just to say particular intimacies would only be shared with a few...exclusivity is present with all...I know Wiccans and Pagans...I do not hang out with them...but we get along...

I would not put a lot of faith in translations...When it comes right down to it, there is a couple of commandments to me I find put it all in perspective..."Love God with all your heart," and "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." In other words, if I believe am created in the image of God, then I must grant that to the other person as well...and then I would grant the same amount of respect and consideration to the other person as well (i.e., love).

I think it's good that you brought this OP. I find it "strange" let's say(in the least insulting way possible)when for example someone who frequents this site calls themselves a "christian." It's quite obvious to me, that certain things in the bible are sort of proof that the religion is "phony" in a way.(although standard of proof changes drastically from person to person.) Because we can make the observation that these teachings in the bible are not really in the best interest of survival, we can therefore surmise that maybe the organized religion in question is being used for something other than some of the good moral guidelines that it seems to use as a disguise for the other guidelines. also it's a form of control

Further, I am unsure of where you came up with the notion that in order to be a true christian, one must follow every word in the bible...Deuteronomy has no laws to follow...Leviticus on the other hand is a book of laws...summarized in the two I presented...

Yes I admit and have had rounds with my uncle over the manipulation of what is and whats not in the bible, The interesting thing about Enoch the bible only has a little sentence about him but from what I gather was he was so god like and so holy he ascended to heaven with god and he gave Moses his bible, the book of Enoch. As to the killing it was to purge sin off the land and idolizing false gods in which you would suffer gods wrath, But then he sent his son down to earth to be born and live and walk as mortal even though god knew what man would do, he still chose is only begotten son to be sacrificed for all of the sins of the people of then and now. Also Enoch was Moses grandfather, But there is one Phrase in the whole bible that I have questions about. It's when....And god said, let's make man in our image.

what you say makes all the sense in the world, but how does one pick and choose what to pay attention to and what to ignore. it does not really matter what year you are from or what friends you hang out with when it comes to gods message. it is simply a message for all men who choose to follow his commandments until the day of judgement. people are always saying certain things shouldnt be taken seriously now days, why?! when did gods message become irrelevant. is it only that some do not agree with the harshness of their god? is it that some think he was joking around in his book of truth? is it that some have outgrown his words of eternal wisdom?

When one decides to pick and choose what rules of gods they obey, then they have no regard for the bible and in turn are not christians. . sorry to burst any bubbles, not meaning to offend here. but look at it how it is.

More information for you...The Inquisition and the Crusades were utilized to spread, "Christianity," throughout the world...The one way to stop the slaughter of people was to actually incorporate many of the traditions of Paganism and other religions into, "Christianity"...this may be in fact, why you have so much difficulty understanding what it is truly about...

I'm a Christian ... I keep it simple and remember Lord Jesus Christ words "love them as I have loved you" ... I don't go to man made churches as it is not really something I feel welcome at .... fake smiles and weak handshakes etc

I pay attention to it all...just like I pay attention to all the words I read here...they are all necessary to get the gist of what the message is...it does not mean act on all of them to the sense I perform the action described...

Paul wrote that each man must work out his own salvation with fear and trembling...sounds a little uncertain...

Further, I do not understand how one can label another person as being anything...but why waste your time working out what another person is anyway...why not carry out the experiment of figuring out whether or not a person is a true muslim or true buddhist?

I to feel that same way I mean it never says you have to go to church to be Christian. But you should want to be with and fellowship with like minded people to grow your faith...But churches of today people go to church hide behind the walls of the church say praise god then the next you see, you'll see them on facebook gossiping about who wore what to church or why are they here yada yada yada.most christians of today are hypocrites. follow your heart and know Jesus died for you and be good to other people not kick them when their down,
