National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center says that the region on the sun known as AR11339 and affectionately called the “Benevolent Monster” will set its sights on Earth. It will move into a position that poses the largest risk to our planet around November 9th, 2011 and remain on a direct line of sight with earth for the following two (2) weeks as it rotates

the risk over the next two weeks of a Carrington-like event are higher now than at anytime in the last decade. The 1859 Carrington Event, caused by a solar flare, reportedly knocked out telegraph operations around the world. It is believed that such an event, were it to occur today, could potentially take down the U.S. power grid for months or years and paralyze the entire globe:

This is fun. This whole month has been warning of asteroids, tsunamis, Earthquakes in random areas, national emergency drills and now a higher then likely Carrington event could manifest. Could you imagine a Carrington event happening in today’s world? Millions would die because of the supply chain disruption in food and goods

For those saying that the sunspot activity will be down compared to a past date, your arguing the “number” of sunspots. The number of sunspots is comparable to saying, there was 100 BB guns in 2005 pointing at the earth. Well in 2011 we have 1 88mm cannon pointing at earth. Your argument is not relevant to this thread

From your link in the OP here is a video of what would happen worst case scenario:

Also, listen to this...

And this heart pounding one...

Can't find any credible source for that. Oh and the source of the source seems to be just another stupid site, with many many lies.
At least the NOAA Site mentions nothing about that.

All of a sudden that thread we had about buying emergency supplies before hyperinflation occurs is looking pretty good huh? Also, 1339 is one of the biggest sunspots ever and it is almost in an exact earth facing direction. Glad I have supplies and a half a million heirloom seeds should our supply chain be disrupted(which it would be). Great post and people better be ready for this shist. Also, with other orbital bodies near us (comets/asteroids) it increases the risk of a CME or flare because there is extra gravitational force exererted on the sun in our general area. Its noot looking so good here but F it im ready to bunker down and chill for a long while, then on to farming the land. Nice opening post S&F for you my friend.

NOAA's site keeps throwing me out. I went to NOAA and can't seem to get much information. I did see a site that said solar winds are slow so nothing may affect us. Mainly scientific sites baffle me but I think I got that information correct.

Your link does not actually lead to the data that NOAA has posted...it would be extremely helpful if you posted the REAL data...as you can see from this image, the sunspot activity is LOWER than that of 2000...doubtful that approaches the levels of what your specious blog claims in 1859...

Don't get me wrong, I surely don't hope or wish for a Carrington-like event. Still, I can't help wondering if it might be the ONE thing that could keep us humans from destroying ourselves. Imagine, a global 'reset'. No power, no missiles, no satellites, no food production, water. It would probably take a decade or more to recover. Of course, it seems likely that much of military installations are sealed. It sure seems to me like it has the potential to be a near ELE-type event, except for those on the planet who are already living that way.

An aside, but somewhat related -- yesterday my darlin' rolled her eyes a tad at me wrapping our backup inverter and backup micro-wind genny in aluminum and putting them inside the locker where our solar PV stuff is. The interior of the locker, which holds our battery bank, charge controllers, DC disconnect and inverter is already a grounded Faraday cage, made with aluminium Peel-n-seal on the interior. It's grounded into a buried #00 bare wire.

She said, "sooooo, you gonna make a tinfoil hat with what's left over?" The nerve. Nobody looks cool in a tinfoil hat. That's SO 80's.

Some people will believe some people will not... kind of like the old metaphor of the ants that prepared for winter and the grasshopper who did not... and starved to death.

nice picture of sun spots. just because there are less sun spots dosent mean a carrington like event wont happen. The sun spot facing us right now is one of the largest in recent history. 14 times the size of earth! One 14 times the size of earth is more scary then 100 little pebble sun spots.

I receive the message that I do not have permission to read the database on this server? I wonder what that means?

There are more than sunspots on my image as everyone can see...there is a graph superimposed on the image that details the level of activity over the past 15 years or so...Why would you simply refer to the sunspots? Why not mention the graph and the trends provided?

I am so envious! But you know even if all the stuff you have done to prepare does not workout or vanishes, it is a preparedness from within and a good sense of humor that will be your greatest survival tool. Good for you.

They don't let you open it on this server try to open in a new tab,it happened 2 weeks ago they close down the server and opened after one week,to cover another event, but this time could be BIG!!IIs there a part of the sun they don't want us to see?

Your graph shows the "number" of sun spots in a given year. Not there strength. This thread is in regards to one sun spots size and power. Numbers and sizes are two different things.
