I don't think the idea was to solve any problems... I think the idea was for all of those idiot worthless hippies with their liberal arts degrees to go get a job. That way they can start to pay off those $200,000 student loans.

Only a misinformed idiot would think OWS is all worthless hippies.

This is lame, I don't know about Chicago.. but here where I live, I've even applied at a bunch of fast foot places including McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Arby's... and NONE of them even gave me an interview let alone hired me; by the way I do NOT have any criminal record at all.

This is a joke.

I'm sure all those guys making 100k+ a year are laughing like crazy at this.

I can sort of imagine this as an opening scene in some "post apocalypse" movie. Next thing that happens is there is a global food crisis with all sorts of meat and grain shortages. Then bankers and CEOs start disappearing all over the city. But the McDonalds is turning out lots of yummy, yummy burgers with "special sauce". It turns out that they are turning the bankers and other assorted fat cat elites into the patties to be served at bargain basement prices to feed the low wage earners of America.

This is just a movie we are living in, right?

Really? Because I get sick of being told that I am overqualified for jobs. I take it that has never happened to you?

Go apply at a supermarket in management if you feel you're over qualified for Mcdonalds.Be a landscaper.Construction.Get up off your ass and LOOK.Just because you went to college does not mean you're entitled to work in whatever field your degree is.

Who said any of those jobs had openings?

Fact is if you wanted to find a job you could.

How do you figure? Do you believe there are as many jobs as there are job seekers?

They just think they're entitled to something more then they actually are.

At the very least they should be charged with attempting to start a riot.

It very well could have come to that.

AND ARE YOU HAPPY?! COME ON! I WORK FOR THE SYSTEM!"

It very well could have come to that.

In that case, there are more than a few politicians and union leaders who need to be publicly executed for the heinous nature of their attempts to incite riots.

And this leads us back around to the mentality of the OWS crowd (and many liberals, for that matter). It's a fixation on other people and how they behave. It is the desire to control other people and a belief that one's own life and ways are so correct as to criminalize deviance from that way of life.

"People cannot live correctly if they don't live the way I think they should."

It's a mentality I have been outgrowing since my teenage years.

It's toxic. You are you - you have your own goals, your own ambitions, your own priorities and tastes. Why should I get myself all wrapped up in trying to get you to live the way I think people should? Why should I feel so empowered as to justify the abridging of your rights to choices and freedom?

If you want your little hippie commune - go make it. I'll even draft and support the legislation that gets your commune declared its own separate financial/governmental entity from the rest of us, if you want. Hell - I may even help you design the thing to be all efficient and pleasing to look at.

But in return, I do expect to be granted the freedom to make my own decisions. I expect the freedom to be able to run a business the way I want to - and accept that employees have the freedom to tell me to shove it and take their skills elsewhere.

I've seen people get screwed over by industry - and I've seen industry screw itself over, having to pay people massive sums to come in and straighten out a problem.

Just like people - not every business is going to be honest. However, also like people - most businesses will abide by common ethical concepts provided minimal leverage is made available through the abuse of government and the invalidation of banking systems (interestingly enough, also by government).

Freedom doesn't come without risks. It doesn't come with guarantees or security. Freedom requires awareness and responsibility if you wish to survive.

If you want security - then you want dependence. Which - if that's the way you want to live, that is the way you want to live.

Do not, however, attempt to drag me into that way of life. I will not accept it. Plain and simple. I do not endeavor or desire to control your life - I really do not appreciate the attempt to control mine.

does " LET THEM EAT FAST FOOD" instead of "Let them eat cake" make sense?

this polarization is ridiculous.

Dropping the applications was a derogatory move that was obviously mirrored by others within the building. period.
it was childish and "safe" while being up in their "tower"

one day, unless everyone becomes less polarized to work together, you're going to see a repeat of history and all the OWS protesters will be running up to rip the photocopiers from their office towers to hang in the streets..

just like history has shown OVER and FRGGIN OVER..

I have common sense, build things with my hands, attended college, more technical knowledgeable than the 98% around me and CHOOSE to stay out of those office towers and have for years for what these protests stand for.

Cars ramming through people from protesters beating on hoods and photocopied applications intended as insults combined with patriotic whiplashes from downed marines..

It feels like some sort of serious clash is about to rear it's head.

It will be truly ironic when these guys who dropped those McDonald's applications on the protesters find themselves downsized and out on their asses bet those apps will look pretty good to them when their money runs out and the local employment office has nothing for them. It's just as George Carlin said:The real owners of this country just want people who just smart enough to run the machines and do the paper work.

People don't want jobs at Ms Donald's because they believe that they are too good for "flipping burgers"...

I've been reading most of the posts on this thread and came to a conclusion... Most people here want:

More freedoms
Less government involvement
Better Jobs
Cheaper cost of living

Here's what I think.

You want more freedom? Fine so do companies.
You want less government involvement? Fine so do companies.
You want better jobs? Fine, companies have more freedoms and less government involvement so guess where your job is going...
You want a cheaper cost of living? Well those freedoms and less government involvement makes companies send jobs where it's cheaper to produce things...

Think for a second... Just a mere second... The claimed freedoms of the "slaved populace of America" will backfire. If you don't regulate things properly, you get anarchy. Then when you get anarchy, you get instability, poverty, and violence. And let me tell you, with such an obesity rate in the US, many people will have a hard time surviving this anarchy state.

Solution? Here's an idea... Of course, this is going to be a common sense solution so better be ready for ground breaking, shattering information...

1. You don't have a job? Go work at McDonald's WHILE YOU LOOK FOR A BETTER JOB.

2. You believe that you are "over qualified"? LIE ON YOUR APPLICATION. You can conveniently "forget" that you have a PHD in astrophysics.. Face it, you aren't going to work at McDonald's for 25 years...

3. You had it all until you job was sent overseas and now you have to start over? SUCK IT UP LIFE ISN'T FAIR. You aren't the first nor the last generation to feel "misunderstood" "forgotten" or "un-cared for" by the older people in government. They were there once too, why do you think they went into politics in the first place...

4. Stop your whining, stop thinking about "the greater good", and TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! Camping in a public place is fun I'm sure. But you aren't doing anything productive. Your signs are not read by the people who you are aiming them at, they are being read by other people like you... If you don't do something for yourself, you are losing out... You could be working and at least support part of your expenses with a minimum wage job... Camping gives you no $, no income, therefore, you are worse off than before...

I'm sorry if your brain hurts from all this common sense, but someone needed to tell it how it is...

hmm.....
ya know I was joking around with my boss last week. this is our busy season and we are swamped at work. I asked him if he minded if I took a few days off work to go and protest in NYC....

guess what, he thinks it's neat what they are doing, and well, if I had been serious, I would have gotten those days off paid!!!

the small businesses aren't too happy at the moment either. yesterday, my boss took off for detroit for a two day seminar on "Corporate Responsibility"...that supposedly is "Mandatory"!!1

don't know who's bright idea this was, but got to tell ya, it's not our little small business that needs a lesson in corporate responsibility!!! they should have the big corps there!!! ya know the irresponsible ones!

who never pay taxes
who want to dumb their toxic waste where ever
who want to pay the least amount to their employers as they can
and,, who ship the jobs to third world countries so they can do the above!!!

Really? Because I get sick of being told that I am overqualified for jobs. I take it that has never happened to you?

Again, why are you reliant upon someone else to assign you a job?

It's a sad day when prostitutes have a better understanding of free market enterprise and entrepreneurship than the average person.

Who said any of those jobs had openings?

Doesn't hurt to apply. Also, see above.

How do you figure? Do you believe there are as many jobs as there are job seekers?

There are always jobs to be done. Any time a person says: "I wish I had the time..." - there's a job opportunity. Any time someone says: "I wish I knew how to..." - there is a job opportunity.

So long as there are people, there will be plenty of jobs to be done.

Of course, if you make more than a certain amount, you'll have to report and pay to the IRS or risk having your finances dissected by auditors.... There's a whole book of regulations that can end up landing you in court or slapped with a six-figure fine for not adhering....

Mind reader? What number am I thinking of?

Right now, merely the idea of a number. All numbers exist as a possibility (with the numbers 0-9 being the most likely) within a super-position until an attempt is made to return a number and collapses the wave-function.

Would you like to tell me if the cat is alive, or dead?

More to the point:

The OWS crowd has, largely, been used as an instrument of class warfare under the idea that people are, somehow, entitled to a standard of living that is arbitrarily placed above one's current standard of living, yet below "rich people" (around here, if you pull in $100K a year, you can afford some crazy real-estate and lavish accommodations... while it will barely get you a shack in some areas... so I'm not quite sure what criterion are being used).

It is founded on the idea that people have the authority to decide what another individual should make simply by virtue of disparity. "We have less than you, so you not only shouldn't have it - but you are being unethical by having more, and illegal once we get the laws changed."

It's a very toxic line of reasoning, as I've said before. As much as people claim to be victims of predation in the employment market, they seek to take predatory actions against people they deem to be too wealthy, or to have too much power/influence.

The worst part about it is that they are being used. Individually - they are quite varied, and not all are the definition of Marxists... but collectively, they are being used. That idea - that disparity entitles one to a higher standard of living indirectly leads to a justification of extortion. "Share with us like good, responsible citizens; or we'll burn your house down and rape your family on the front lawn in the midst of a riot." It's little different than a demand for protection money: "If you don't pay us... who knows what all these hoodlums around here might do to your business...."

You can't argue the moral or ethical high-ground, nor can you argue that you have "woken up."

People don't wake up. They simply shift to another herd to justify the belief they are not being led around as part of the herd.

Wow...how rude. So everyone's supposed to go work at McDonalds flipping burgers, this will solve ALL of our problems, yeah right.

Exactly... It must suck to have a college degree and mountains of student loan debt, and the only job you can get is flipping burgers and saying "would you like fries with that."

Correct, and it is also insulting to tell people that have worked hard to make something out of themselves to go flip burgers.

The ones who find this funny or share in the opinion that college educated americans should become serfs, we'll see how hard they laugh when the civility ends and the streets burn.

There will be no where to run.

How is that rude or insulting?
If they don't have a job, and McDonalds is hiring, then a job can be had.
It is just that the job is beneath them. Now that is funny.
Talk about elitist.

No, it's trying to show others how they are being taken advantage of.

I wouldn't trade places with GWB for anything............he may have more money and "things" than I do, but I will go to my grave knowing I never intentionally screwed over anyone.

How is working for a paycheck being taken advantage of??

Oh wait, Predatory Hiring, right?
Just like Predatory Lending.

This guy

waits in the bushes, shoots you with his shoulder mounted "Jobs Gun" and BAM!!!! You are working a job that you did not apply for. AND, you don't get a paycheck.

I had better get the whole team
out there to hunt him down.

Were you there?

I was and we all cleaned up after ourselves.

Start researching wage differential...................minimum wage at MacDonalds for the little pions that do the real work while the CEO (and I've worked under one) that don't do the real work......makes tens of millions.

Get real, wake up - put down your remote, your ipod, cell phone and do some heavy research.

OWS is about how unjust and corrupt our current world system is.
