"They" should obey? From your post I take it your talking about the protestors... Here's a fact for you, pedestrians have the right away no matter what.

er maybe if you knew anything about the world and how it really works you'd realise you should probably be greatful to that G20 protester. They were looking out for your arse if you but knew it.

if you count everyone driving a merc as the 1% you're gonna end up with a lot more than 1%

i really hope this movement hits the right targets otherwise it'll just end up turning on the middle class doctors and such who can afford mercs, and the real people causing probs will get away with it as usual becuz they have jets and fly out of danger.

don't attack anyone with a merc, a lot of people work hard, have decent jobs and can afford one. doesn't make them the one percent.

I agree with you, what I wrote was just for a good laugh, well from what i think personally, things will get worse and more casualties will happen if this occupy movement don't stop. Car accidents happen all the time, but i am thinking these protesters will go wild when they get tired of waiting and when protesters go wild, the cops take over and more casualties. lets hope something good happens

the guy's in a 3,000 pound + car. the victims are unarmed and minding their own business. the mercedes pulled up right in front of him almost bumping him out of the way. i'm pretty sure he was honking at the guy.

i'm also sure the guy driving is an arrogant, entitled prick who thinks he owns everything in his line of sight.

then he guns the car and runs over him. that looks like attempted murder. if it was a cop he did that to, he'd be shot multiple, multiple times. and if by some miracle he survives the 152 bullets pumped into his body, he would be sentenced to 40 years in prison.

maybe people would respect and support the police if they treated your life as valuable and important as theirs.

instead they let this piece of sh-t drive away. people have commented that because it's a mercedes it made news. he may or may not be wealthy, but this is news because he was treated differently for almost killing two people because it was perceived he had money.

Mercedes hits 2 Occupy Oakland protesters

www.sfgate.com

A car struck two Occupy Oakland protesters tonight as they marched with a crowd along Broadway, and an angry mob surrounded the car as emergency workers tended to the injured.

(visit the link for the full news article)

A few things to note, the woman was in black and the guy instigated the situation, it is not about crossing the street anymore. The mercedes inched forward, that means the driver just wanted to go home and that it was not malicious intent. The crowd is a street thick and impossible to manuever. You cannot reasonably wait for all pedestrians to yield. The guy that got hit pounded on the mercedes hood in anger, and that is called battery. The guy shold have just stepped aside and let the man go, the light was also green.

You folks are making this out to be more than what it was. There was no malicious intent, the driver just wanted to go home and there was a crowd blocking his path and he had a green light. He tried to make his way through but obviously the protesters refused and that is when someone got hurt. Seems to me that the only law breaking in this incident was the protesters, there were no police barricades blocking off the street from public access and the driver had a right to go home which the protesters were denying his rights. The cops would have a perfect right to cite them all for jay walking, i know i would. There are sidewalks that are made for pedestrians to walk on, so get out of the f*cking road, or get run over its that simple. Far as i am concerned if youre willfully blocking the road you deserve whatever happens to you.

Just watched the video and I take the drivers side. Whats the poor driver supposed to think when you get some slug stepping in front of your car and refuses to move then starts pounding on the hood of your car? Think he'd be in fear for the safety of his wife and family if they were in the car? What would you do? I think the same exact thing- get your butt out of there. I'd love to be on the jury on this case, I'd give a big ole "Not Guilty".

If you stand in front of my car and start pounding on my hood...I'm running you over as well.

These protestors are getting this attitude that they can do anything they want because "they are changing the world"....sorry...doesn't work like that.

If you want to act stupid...be prepared for consequences.

God, Family, Country
Driver: Protecting Family
Occupier: Destroying Country
Driver wins.

Or...
3,000 lbs, 300 hp and fear -vs- 150 lbs, Brainless, threatening
Driver wins.

Or...
One vehicle trying to get the hell out of dodge stopped by violent mob...gets the hell outta dodge.
Driver wins.

Hope the mercedes does
not have too much damage.

Why these protesters are throwing themselves
in the way of cars is beyond me..

Did you see the video? If so then your judgment is impaired. Who has the right of way at all times?

I pray to God you don't have a license.

Simple answer: That's probably how some of these people make a living. Step in front of car get banged up a little and get the driver to settle out of court. pay day.

Not a problem, I'm responsible for my actions.

I'm glad you agree that the idiot pounding on the car got what he deserved

FYI

Right of way is a non issue in this case.

The car did stop prior to the altercation.

It will come down to who threatened whom (based on video alone, both have a case).

To the poster that stated that pedestrians alwasy have right of way, please educate yourself before you state that. In many countries pedestrians do not have right of way, vehicles do. And, to add insult, the pedestrian (or their surviving family) will be footed with the repair bill to the vehicle. If you meant in the US, please state that, this site has members from around the globe.

On the video, the guy tried to force his way though the crowd, almost hitting a woman. That's when the guy who got plowed, confronted him. The driver was wrong for trying to force his way through. The guy was wrong fur putting his hands on another mans property. The driver was again wrong for mashing the gas. And the guy will again be wrong if he gets out of the hospital and tries to sue saying that it was unprovoked. Both parties are at fault in different ways and I thank God there is a video out for when this goes to court.

Incorrect.

There were no barricades and the light was green in the drivers direction. It is perfectly acceptable (by law) to proceed slowly through.

Edit to add:

As I stated previously, the right of way will be a non issue. It will come down to the altercation, to which we have no real evidence. From the video, both made threatening jestures, the car creeping forward and the protester hitting the hood. So it will most likely be settled as a assualt, but from whom will be the question.

You find yourself in the middle of a protest march and people start pounding on your car what the hell are you going to do?

Seriously? The guy very possibly simply panicked.

THese are meant to be peaceful protesters. Why did the guys start pounding on his car. THat is a clear threat.

The guy was interviewed by the police. The outcome is not clear.

Any normal civil society looks like its coming to an end.

This guys picture is now been posted all over the internet. He is now a target. The guys life is over.

Law and order will be thrown out and verdicts of guilt are been decided by the angry mob.

We are entering very disturbing and dark days. I suspect there will be violence coming the likes of which have never been seen before.
